‼‼IMPORTANT‼‼ Hey guys! Heads up, I'm aware some of the SUMIFs aren't working. If some formulas don't work, try interchanging some , with ; and vice versa! You can also try retyping the "Needs" and different categories (both on the dropdown AND formula) to ensure there are no odd characters or spaces that may affect it (it's case sensitive!) Remember that "Needs", " Needs ", and "needs" are NOT the same thing; Sheets will read these differently.
Thank you so much for the easy to understand budget calculator!! I was able to get it to accept the formula when using a ; but once I type numbers in and choose the drop down, it is not registering the percentage or the dollar amount. Have any suggestions?
Jeremy, you just did a tutorial on what I've been looking for to track my own finance. I wanted something simple and not cluttered. Been binge watching your videos. Great tutorials. A new follower here. 🙌
As a teen with one foot barely in the doorway, I've been scrolling for hours and oh my gosh u helped me in like 5 minutes, u cooked with this one brother thank u so much
This is great! I am 47, have a 20 yr old in college, married and have as a manger of a finance department for years. However, I now have a brain injury and struggle with budgeting. So many don’t understand my anxiety over money.
people would pay 20$ for content like this. can't believe this stuff is free in the internet... as someone who completely knows nothing about Sheets, thank you brah
This helped me so much. Most other videos are specifically for month-long budgets. I didn't know anything tech wise on how to make this work. THIS WORKS. THANK YOU!!!
YOU HAVE SAVED MY BUTT!!! I was putting FAR too much expenses on my credit card. Now I can manage my money so much better. I'll be one step closer to financial freedom!!
Honestly this is the best, most straight forward tutorial of a google sheet budget tracker I have ever seen, I'm 40 years old and have spent years trying to figure this out myself or through other videos. I just set my budget tracker up in 10 minutes thanks to you. Thank you so much for this video. I literally just felt weight lifted off of me knowing I can set my budgets up monthly easier and more efficient. Game changer.
This was the quickest way to create a tracker! I thought this was so hard and its not! And I love how you separated into needs, wants and savings. Thank you so much.
Thank you!! It took me a long time to understand this but after watching I finally understand! Thankyou for your simplicity and for making it simple for me to understand. I normally get very overwhelmed by spreadsheets and don't understand! Now I do! Thank you!
Thank you so much! The formulas worked for me and this will really help our family keep track of our expenses throughout the month to reach our goals for various categories of spending!
THANK YOU!!!!! This is solid tracker and the formulas were fantastic. Would have been cool to see them enlarged for us aging folk, but otherwise PERFECTION!
1) Integration of 1 to n subcategories per main category and related evaluation options & Give to add & remove category & subcategory 2) Tracking of fixed vs. variable expenses 3) Also Add payment type add like cash ,credit card,Different bank , Google pay etc also maintained balance 4) Add Taypes menas (income expenses contra etc) Again, thank you so much, I am looking forward for upcoming tutorials
THANK YOU for a simple expense tracker! I get too overwhelmed with many other ones people have created, or all the elements others recommend to include. I feel that this is a fantastic base to build off of, thanks again!
Thank you so much! This was super easy to follow. I was worried Google Sheets would be overstimulating to me with all the columns and whatnot (as silly as that sounds). But nah, this turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.
thank you so much for this. for the month of october, i am finally starting to keep track of my expenses and finances. i was orignally looking up templates to download on google sheets or excel but they were all really complicated and extra. THIS!!! literally is so straightforward and what exactly im looking for!!
I literally sat here re creating it with you step by step. All the other ones Ive searched for including the old one I used to use were cluttered with too much going on, thank you this was a huge help!
Thank u so much of making this video i'm from india and I had searching this kind of video from past few days and I had received only excel video's that I don't want it now I had subscribed you ❤❤❤
Hi Jeremy! I just wanna say, THANK YOU SO MUCH for creating this video!!! I just bought a house and have been looking at a simple budget tracker. This was extremely helpful. I know this video is 1 year old, i was wondering if you’d be able to post a video or put a comment on how to add additional months in the quickest and easiest way.
hey Abbie! I would either make an empty sheet as a template and duplicate the sheet, or you can copy and paste what youve made to underneath it as a new month!
Jeremy that's so much for this simple and straightforward tutorial. Super helpful! Found FIX for the SUMIF, Steps: 1) click on arrow in dropdown menu (Column E); 2) click on the pencil icon to edit; 3) click cursor (mouse) at the end of "Needs" and delete any extra spacing after the "s"; repeat (Step 3) for Wants and Savings and delete extra spacing at the end of each word, then hit DONE, then APPLY TO ALL if that is an option. Then this formula will work =SUMIF(E1:E15, "Needs", D1:D15). NOTE: use only one space after each comma in formula. Hope this helps!
Dude, this is also neurodivergent-friendly!!! I have ADHD and it seems like the first budgeting spreadsheet that's simple enough but has everything I need. I might be able to stick with it this time 🥲
This is pretty sweet Jeremy! I've been through half a dozen apps - which after a while I gave up! I've been trying to come up with an elaborate sheet where I can track both my businesses and personal finance - but, I end up not knowing how to differentiate or not between business and personal or not! So your simple but to the point sheet, just gave me a really good head start. I like the figures and percentages of each and the only thing I may add are dates within the month so I know when I spent or received income, (I know a bit anal...ha ha...). Thanks a tone dudie..🙂
I have been talking about doing this for some time now. .. especially, now that I have bought my first home. I have tried something similar but it was "meh" and I was not impressed with it BUT now I have found something that will work for me. Thank you, Bro. I appreciate ya. I think this idea and tracker will be more beneficial for me to use and be successful.
The budget tracking is great. You could however make it more accurate and sophisticated by adding a second sheet to track all transactions (minor and big) by date etc. So if you spend 5,11 on a meal at the supermarket you could track that receipt etc etc. And sum it up in it's entirety so at the end of the month you have tracked every single expense (by category) and can trace back what that category exists of (all the minor transactions you make throughout the month)
Hey appreciate the suggestion! That is an amazing suggestion, I'll definitely see if I can make a v2 in the future implementing your changes. Appreciate it!
You can go ahead and add that column. You can title it GOALS or something and you can easily have a look and compare it. You can also use an IF formula to see if the amount is greater than > or less than
THANK YOU!!! Ive managed to create the perfect tracker. However i have one question... for the expenses and the 'saving' option.. what sort of things would you put? im just confused with what spending i would mark as savings? thank you x
Thank you I really appreciate this tutorial! however when I set up my percentages in the beginning with the income the 50% totals to $0.00 what could i be doing wrong??
For those who are stuck on the sum if after you do sumif click on the column he is clicking and don’t forget the comma before “needs” and after as well and click on the column next to the drop down column
Is it possible to sum up all the sheets and make a summary of the year? Would the easiest way be just to copy paste all the income/expense cells into a 13th sheet?
I think I went over the dropdown on the video! Not sure if you can have subcategories though... you might have to start titling it like "Needs - Food", "Needs - Rent" etc.
Hi, Jeremy. I just came across on this video and created it right away. But, I got error for the SUMIF formula. Is there any way you could help me? I was following every step & detail on the video. Thanks in advance!
So if we get paid every week do we just add it each week into the income Column and every single time we spend money we can add it in the expense column I thjnk this will be really good to see how I’m spending my money throughout the month! That way the following month I can focus on my financial goals a lot better ! Amazing video
Thank you so much!! The steps were so easy to follow I just paused and looked for it and it turned out great! I can't wait to show my husband and say I created this from scratch before I tell him you told me.😂 Can I ask how you would set this up if you wanted a bi-weekly tracker instead of a monthly one? I could not find any simple bi-weekly budget tracker apps for android ANYWHERE. Could you help me please?
Hey I am actually working on my tracker using this and I’m not understanding why it’s not calculating. I did the same formula it did it for the goals but not the actual could I get some help pleasseeeeee
Hello! This video is supper helpful but I'm having a bit of trouble with the SUMIF formula. This is what I used =SUMIF(E:E="Needs"=D:D) Can you please tell me what I did wrong? Thank you!
how do i go about adding the next month? I tried to copy paste the chart below the first one but the total expenses is trying to read the entire spreadsheet all together, instead of just giving me the total for the month beside it, if that makes sense!
Awesome tutorial, definitely going to start using this. Just one question, is there a way to add dates to this? As in adding dates to income and expenses? Cheers!

Hey, thanks man. This video was really helpful. You have a new subscriber 👍

As someone who is 16, thank you this was so easy 🙏🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Hey thank you so much for sharing this ! I have question how to change the currency?
there should be a currency option in Google Sheets itself!
Hi, thank you so much for the video, how would I then be able to do a remaining balance so I can see what is left to spend ?
you can do a formula where you subtract
Thanks for the video, pls um what should I do if I want to add a column that shows if I've exceeded my goal or I'm under it.
You can go ahead and add that column. You can title it GOALS or something and you can easily have a look and compare it. You can also use an IF formula to see if the amount is greater than > or less than

Such a lifesaver!! Thanks!

This helped me big time, thank sir!
thank you!
This was great! Thank you
You're so welcome!
Thank you I really appreciate this tutorial!
however when I set up my percentages in the beginning with the income the 50% totals to $0.00 what could i be doing wrong??
not sure, try double checking the formulas again
For those who are stuck on the sum if after you do sumif click on the column he is clicking and don’t forget the comma before “needs” and after as well and click on the column next to the drop down column
I hope this made sense
Great pointer! Thanks for pointing this out!
Good work. very simple and very effective.
appreciate it!
Is it possible to sum up all the sheets and make a summary of the year? Would the easiest way be just to copy paste all the income/expense cells into a 13th sheet?
should be able to if you just sum everything up from a column
Thank you, great tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
Can you create a chart on this? To know which expenses are more spent than others
Bro, it is sooooooo useful. God bless.
Glad it helped
The video was very through! Really easy to do but I was wondering if it was possible to have dropdown categories and dropdown subcategories?
I think I went over the dropdown on the video! Not sure if you can have subcategories though... you might have to start titling it like "Needs - Food", "Needs - Rent" etc.
4:16 when you say "is equal to needs" you put a comma, but when I put it my code becomes an error, what have I done wrong?
Not sure if there are any updates, try using , or ; interchangeably
same
Same! Mine just remains zero
You need to limit the rows to a smaller value on the left side of sheet, I put mine to 50 or else I would have gotten an error as well.
Hi, Jeremy. I just came across on this video and created it right away. But, I got error for the SUMIF formula. Is there any way you could help me? I was following every step & detail on the video. Thanks in advance!
Try using the ; and , interchangably
Would savings be like business expenses? for example a train ticket?
i would assume not because you're technically not gaining any money into your personal accounts
Love this budget with the color code, but I think I’m limited on what I can do on my iPhone, or maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing.
phone may be limited. I think a computer might be required for more controls
Can you then forward your savings to next month's budget and keep track of your total savings or does it start over each month?
You can most definitely do that! You can use an = "EQUAL" and click that sum amount to carry it to the next month from the previous one
Hi again,
Could you pls help with the formulae you mention to see the negatives you mention in 6:07 ??
Thank you
What do you mean?
So if we get paid every week do we just add it each week into the income Column and every single time we spend money we can add it in the expense column I thjnk this will be really good to see how I’m spending my money throughout the month! That way the following month I can focus on my financial goals a lot better ! Amazing video
thank you! yes, keep track of those expenses, let's go :)
This is amazing, thank you!
you're welcome!
Could you help me please?
youre welcome! I'm sure you can format it so it's bi-weekly rather than monthly if you just swap January with the week number or paycheck number/date!
omg i loved it, how could i make a pie chart using the drop down labels? honestly, just for the vibes
hmm good idea, i can go over that in the future
❤thank you where can I get a copy please.
no copy of it unfortunately 😕 you gotta DIY it with the video
Great tutorial thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you bro for you detailed tutorial. God bless!

Please I need a link to one you already made. I can't start doing this myself.
Hey I am actually working on my tracker using this and I’m not understanding why it’s not calculating. I did the same formula it did it for the goals but not the actual could I get some help pleasseeeeee
can you put your formula?
Hello! This video is supper helpful but I'm having a bit of trouble with the SUMIF formula. This is what I used =SUMIF(E:E="Needs"=D:D) Can you please tell me what I did wrong? Thank you!
Hi i think the equal sign should be a comma!
yep, the second one should be a comma!
how do i go about adding the next month? I tried to copy paste the chart below the first one but the total expenses is trying to read the entire spreadsheet all together, instead of just giving me the total for the month beside it, if that makes sense!
Thanks man, you rock!
no you do!
Awesome tutorial, definitely going to start using this. Just one question, is there a way to add dates to this? As in adding dates to income and expenses? Cheers!
Yes you can! just add another column
