The anomalous expansion of water refers to its unique behavior when it's cooled below 4°C, where it actually expands instead of contracting like most other substances. This property is consistent regardless of altitude. However, at higher altitudes, the atmospheric pressure decreases, which affects the boiling and freezing points of water but doesn't change its anomalous expansion behavior.

when i tell you this was the only video that helped me understand what anomalous expansion of water was, i am being for real.

At high altitude as there is low pressure water molecules will go more apart from each other so for analmous expansion we need to decrease temperature even more than normal conditions for water molecules to come closer to form ice

The fish did not freeze because as you explained the ice is less dense than the water and is poor conducter of heat so it rises upwards and reflects the heat that's why the temperature of the fish water below the ice remains warm
So, fishes at places even cold than -2 degree Celsius des not die by freezeing in the cold water
Thanks for explaining everything about it chetna mam

Anomalous expansion increases with altitude. This is because as you move higher, there're lesser air molecules which contributes to lesser atmospheric pressure. This means there's less force on the water molecules. Thus, they have more freedom to expand.😊

Imagine that you are at a particular higher altitude and you have wonder with you. How what you do is that you lower the temperature of water below 4 degree Celsius. As we know that at such higher altitudes the pressure is lower and the temperature is also low so, what would happen is that now the water needs more pressure to reach below 4. So now, water happens to be more denser than the water at surface exactly below that altitude.

    Ma'am I have a question:
If oxygen already balanced due it's self bonding that is O2. Then why it reacts with other elements because it already achieve noble gas configuration that is O2. Similarly in case of Cl2. Plzz ma'am make a video on this problem!

The general dence of cold water remains unchanged until 4o C The density of water gradually increases as you cool it When you reach 4oC its density reaches a maximum The effect of this expansion of water is that the coldest water is always present on the surface Since water at 4oC is the heaviest this water settles on the bottom of the water body and the lightest the coldest layer are on the top layer So in the winter the top of water is always the first to freeze over ice and water both are bad conductors of hea this top layer of ice insulates the rest of the water body from the cold of the winter.

In high altitude with lower atmospheric pressure, I guess water will boil at less than 100C and freeze at more than 0C. Correct me please if I'm wrong.
