- Welcome to the first video of the brand new Now-We-know series, in which we will bring to you complex maths and science concepts in the simplest possible ways!
You must have noticed that bees use only hexagons to build their beehives. But why? What is so special about hexagons? Do bees understand geometry? Come, join us today as we enrol in the bee school of maths to unravel the secrets of nature (and polygons)!

Hmm very interesting topic
The reason why a regular pentagon cannot be used to create a tessellation is because the measure of one of its interior angles does not divide into 360° evenly. In every tessellation, the points, called vertices, where the corners of the shapes meet each contain 360°.
I like your videos aswin sir and other teacher .Understood the concept really well thanks
7:27 there is you answer
I love Byju's
I am Aarav Kumar Aaryan. Very nice video.
Gained some new knowledge thanks for it 😉. Now I can answer why are honeycombs hexagonal!🥳Some examples of hexagon from nature are nuts, snow flakes, tie knot etc.
Wow different diagram sir
Very good and knowledge full video
Loved itt
I love the fun fact
Super sir you are showing the meaning of real education
Wow...
I have the byjus premium and he is my favorite teacher
Wallah ! Amazing sir I was curious to know about it and I knew it from my favorite platform to learn i.e Byju's
you're cool 😎😎😎😎 Aswin sir
Byjus is best learning app
One of the best video. Very good effort.
I gained some knowledge
👍👍👍👍🎊😊😊😊🎉😀
Wow! That's great information .it was very helpful to know about the fact .BYJUS is my favourite learning platform .and 'Now we know' series is the best☺️
Thankyou very much.
Yesssss. It started
Love the explanation
Nice explanation 👌 👍🏻 👏 😀 sir.
👍👍
Amazing
Excellent
First comment......
BTW I'm very much interested on such fact video
I love byjus
Thanku sir
I love byjus app
Thank you
Hexagonal shape in daily life it's:
Football
Snake skin
And honeycomb
Q) Hexagonal shapes in daily life
Ans : a)Snake skin
b)Honeycomb
c)Insect like House fly's Eyes
Can you give a basic video of maths of topics in short every topics' only basic or fundamentals please byju's because mostly everyone need it
Nice explanation sir of your by Justin all of the teachers will explain in very easy method and we will understand very fastly and we can write in exams also thank you sir for explaining these for us and love you byju's
I think that pentagons don't tessellate because it doesn't end with 0 whilst the others do
Thank you Byju's for understanding me and thank you for exploring such type of things that we don't know
Basalt columns and insect eyes also form hexagonal patterns.

Explain displacement time graph ?
I have seen this pattern in the snake scales
Thank you sir for explaining me. I always thought Why are honeycomb hexagonal . Thank you Byju's 😃
The design made on the surface of football.⚽⚽
Am I correct?
Anyone please reply!
Yes, this is a fantastic answer as it tesselates and covers the ball easily
Sir please make a video on cotyledons
First
One example for this question that I found was football
Scales of reptiles
Nice
Eye of fly
Snake's Body Is Hexagonal .
Footpath tilings
Snake skin patterns..
Wasp combs
Hexagonal shapes are also found at the shell of a turtle and more interestingly a hexagonal vortex storm is formed in the northpole of Saturn.
Snacks scale
Why man made things are rectangular
football design
Fun fact : Honeybees actually build there combs circular but it automatically converts into hexagon to create a stable shape.
6 triangle🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺=1 hexagon
But they make only hexagon but why not triangle or square
7:21 Check this part of video
Watch complete video there is answer
Nice doubt, triangle, square and hexagon can tessellate but which one of them has a larger opening , its for the hexagon. So honey bees use hexagon shapes to get more space inside
Bcz hexagon is the largest polygon which can tessellate as well as complete 360° in building 3 shapes so they make hexagon to save efforts
