  • Welcome to the first video of the brand new Now-We-know series, in which we will bring to you complex maths and science concepts in the simplest possible ways!
    You must have noticed that bees use only hexagons to build their beehives. But why? What is so special about hexagons? Do bees understand geometry? Come, join us today as we enrol in the bee school of maths to unravel the secrets of nature (and polygons)!

    The reason why a regular pentagon cannot be used to create a tessellation is because the measure of one of its interior angles does not divide into 360° evenly. In every tessellation, the points, called vertices, where the corners of the shapes meet each contain 360°.

    I think that pentagons don't tessellate because it doesn't end with 0 whilst the others do

      Nice doubt, triangle, square and hexagon can tessellate but which one of them has a larger opening , its for the hexagon. So honey bees use hexagon shapes to get more space inside

    • @ShivamThakur-zc6qj
      @ShivamThakur-zc6qj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bcz hexagon is the largest polygon which can tessellate as well as complete 360° in building 3 shapes so they make hexagon to save efforts
