For me, it totally depends on how the kitchen is designed & chiefly presented...that determines whether I go with a total slab or mosaic tile work for the backsplash of the kitchen counters, etc. In this case, I prefer the "finished look" of the total slab. Therefore, I guess I agree with your wife on this one. It WORKS WELL! ;-D

I'm NOT sure if it's a good idea to put glass front shelving in CLOSE PROXIMITY of the stove because of all the smoke, grease, grit, etc. Although, there is a SUPER-SIZED HOOD over the range...I think that there is going to be a lot of constant CLEANING going on with the GLASS FRONT CABINETS. Especially if you want to always have them SPARKLING, and have the clearest of CLEAR presentation! :-D Personally, I would rather have the glass front cabinets on the opposite side of the kitchen, but NOT directly near the range/stove. Perhaps, the designer is privy to how well this HOOD, VENTING SYSTEM works...I confess I am not! Perhaps, folks that have this particular configuration in their kitchen can shed some light on HOW WELL THE VENTING WORKS with this type of hood. I'm wondering about it???? I'm not a big fan of cleaning smokey glass 'tis all! lol
