In 1976 there was a perch explosion in Pool 9. There was a flotilla of boats out in front of Ferryville, and everyone was bringing in limits of perch. Haven't seen that since.
Holy cow!..yeah, I've heard stories of it being unreal up there...also heard back in the day guys would catch 8 pound bass as well!..I wish it was still like that..
@@TooFatToHuntOutdoors My dad was a commercial fisherman, guided duck hunters and ice fishermen. I never saw an eight pound bass, although I saw a lot of very large northern pike and walleyes (but not Lake Erie-size eyes). I think that is more likely down south, where bass can grow year-round. There were a couple places where we would put hoop nets in the fall, trying to intercept bullheads traveling the sloughs to mud lakes, and they would come up chock-full of slab bluegills. I'm talking 200-300 pounds of them. We would pick out the bullheads and shovel all the rest back into the water. The commercial fishermen have almost all died off, with no one to replace them. I've been told that there are more catfish now than you can shake a stick at. The zebra mussels have cleaned up the water so much, you can see bottom in places where you never could, when I was growing up. And there are weeds in places they never were before, because the sun can get down to the bottom.
We've been doing ok in pool 9 as well. Some nice walleye and catfish also. Hopefully the brown bullheads move in soon. Yesterday I ended up with 12 perch and a walleye however most of the perch were spawned out so my shore fishing will end soon for those big perch.

@@TooFatToHuntOutdoors oh I see Desoto bay is where my father caught his 10lbs walleye that we have mounted we caught some nice perch just below the swift cut about 2 weeks ago

Because we started fishing in Desoto Bay, then went up into Minnesota Slough, and eventually up to the dam..
