He quickly realizes that he is becoming miserable and weak by his lust towards that person. So he starts to have thoughts of leaving the earth alone and miserable

So idk if anyone else had this same feeling that I get when I hear this song; but the best was I can say the feeling is, would be calm anxiety. I get anxious when I get really into the song because of the whole "end if the world" thing, but when it basically says to leave everything behind, I get this sense of relief. Relief like if all my problems will be over in a moment and even though it's the end, I can feel like I e had a good time and the bad will wash away in a little bit

Edit: I watched the video you mentioned and it was so compatible with the apocalyptic feeling of this song that if there are those who haven't watched it, they should definitely check it out!! This sentence at the end actually summarized the whole video: "it is truly a miracle that we've come as far as we have"
Mi padre sufría de cancer, estuvo en su casa los últimos 3 días después de recibir el diagnostico de metastasis terminal, ya era el final del camino. Durante esos días, los más cercanos estuvimos con el acompañándolo y escuchando música (el era un gran melomano). En sus últimos minutos todos sabíamos lo que se avecinaba; todos alrededor de él en su habitación, un silencio rotundo. Yo estaba a los pies de su cama, mi hermano continuaba reproduciendo música (entre discos de Yes, The Beatles, etc) cuando recordé esta canción, su letra y el significado que tenía para nosotros para con nuestro padre. Tomé el computador donde poníamos la música, y puse esta canción. Luego de esa fuerte y estruendosa entrada de piano, entra la banda y se escucha (bajo la voz del gran Demis Roussos) "You should come with me to the end of the world", en ese preciso segundo nos miramos con mi hermano, algo había ocurrido, mi padre falleció. Sabíamos lo que había ocurrido en ese preciso instante. La canción caló hondo en nosotros, ¡que letra más adecuada! , los días siguientes la música no paró de sonar hasta su funeral. El día de su funeral cuando comenzaba el cortejo fúnebre sonaba la canción "Rain and Tears", mientras llovía muy fuerte afuera de la iglesia, había mucha gente. Fue un momento hermoso.
Que gran banda, que grandes temas, y que gran suerte tuvimos de que nuestro padre nos presentó esta banda musical cuando éramos pequeños.
