Starting a Fire (with a Ferrocerium Rod)

This is my first time ever using and trying to start a fire with a Ferrocerium Rod. It is attached to cube of magnesium which if you scrape off is supposed to help ignite a fire with the sparks. Luckily I found some very dry straw to start.
