I have a TT mat called the Acromat manufactured by English co the Funk Firm Gett! (yea they have an exclamation in their name lol) .. and I swear it elevates the soundstage, separates the vocals, it’s voodoo I can’t explain how it does it but it’s creator Arthur K from Pink Triangle fame is some kind of genius savant. How does a 3mm slab of plastic substrate do this ??
One of best sounding records i own is the clear crystal 2020 repress of Joy Division Closer. It feels heavier 190g (not confirmed) which may help resolve the noise floor issue, and puts it on the same level as the original press, maybe slightly better. Purple splatter version of Mazzy Star So TonightThat I May See is also fantastic but yea, I try to stay away from splatter too
i know. I was just listening to the clear version of the first Roxy Music album. Sounds great! I have colored versions of The Sex Pistols and The Clash, and they sound really nice and beefy. Like I said, I'm willing to try colored stuff a bit more now because a lot of them are sounding fine.
