Sound Bites: ABC 'Lexicon Of Love'
A landmark album of the 80's and one of my all time favorite albums. A few interesting bits about this album, and did Bowie really steal ideas from Martin???

An undeniable classic! Let's talk about this crazy, misunderstood, exercise in excess. The 'Mac follows up Rumours with a double album full of new sounds and textures and freaks out the record buying public. However things were waaay more freaky within the band!

This is a look at two key albums from Bowie and Kraftwerk, and how they influenced each other and how they became friends and what happened because of their influence on one another. Two albums that are undeniable classics and two albums that changed ...

The Kinks. Could there be a more misunderstood band? Why have they always been outsiders? What happened to them during the 60s? What does Pink Floyd have to do with this, or complete self-indulgence??? By the late 70's punk was changing everything, and in the Kinks case, it helped fuel a fire which re-ignited their career. Let's look at two fantastic LPs by The Kinks and find out why they matte...

Only one album, but it was a classic! Let's take a look at one of 4AD's most original and pioneering acts, Colourbox. 1985 saw the release of their one and only album, but it would be a milestone. Not only for the innovation and music, but also for the influence it would have. Brothers Steven and Martyn Young were the driving force behind both Colourbox and the collaborative effort, M|A|R|R|S, ...

What's In The Shop? (EP. 28) The Sound Of Sheffield: Cabaret Voltaire, Human League and Heaven 17
มุมมอง 89ปีที่แล้ว
Let's look at some pioneers in electronic music. Cabaret Voltaire are true forerunners in the electronic scene and granddaddies of 'industrial'. Their mid-80s output is machine-funk at its best. The Human League, before and after the split, are true leaders in the whole synth scene. From their first single to their worldwide domination in the early 80's, they helped set the standard in electron...

What's In The Shop? (Ep. 26) Adam Ant, Bow Wow Wow and Culture Club

This episode is about pirates, theft, nudity and breaking Beatles records! Let's take a look and see how Adam Ant was swindled, what Malcolm McLaren had planned for his stolen ants and how they made music history, the hired gun who got fired from Bow Wow Wow only to come back and make music history himself. Whew! Its a complicated strand, but well worth it!

Ai the happiest band from the 80's. "I could be Happy" "Happy birthday" great songs and hits thanks to good airplay from MTV. The blend of the guitar riffs and Clare's voice was amazing. I have all of their albums and singles - still listen to this day. Long live the crazy 80's:) the happiest decade.
Legendary Sade ❤ most of the songs from this album are classics and timeless. Underrated song is Cherry Pie!! 🍒and B-side “Love affair with life”. We need Sade back!
such a classic, love the tee also !
Classic album for sure, it was hated on from the time it was released
@@psholden61 maybe a bumpy ride the first listen or two, but worth it.
Well…like I said, Christine is it for me. I’m with you on the Stevie bit…had enough of the ‘witchy woman’ stuff.
Wow! So much interesting info that I never knew about an album I love. Always felt it didn’t get its due respect. Christine and Lindsey are the magical soul of the band. If I never heard Stevie Nicks again my life would be even more divine.
Slave - best riff they put out in a LONG time, best groove ever.
That tee is fantastic, man! But, the point is, your love for music is truly contagious. I had that album cornered somewhere and I unearthed it today. And am enjoying wildly! Thanks, siempre.
Thanks for watching. I'd prefer if the tee had Mick (Taylor) in place of Brian!
With you - none of the albums/songs after Tattoo You interested me at all. Loved the education - packed full of interesting info with a perfectly paced delivery. 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed. More on the way!
Sorry, I couldn't disagree more. For me, the last "great" Stones album was Steel Wheels, it's consistently good and well recorded and there are any number of great highlights, including "Love Comes at The Speed of Light," perhaps one of the more "adventurous" numbers they'd done in a while and the truly moving (for me) "Almost Hear You Sigh," with Jagger on seriously (as he is throughout) on vocals. Actually, apart from a number of "filler" tracks, they could well have ditched, I think "A Bigger Bang," is a much better album too, with some truly great lyric writing and songs like "Rough Justice" and "Driving too Fat," harking back to songs like "Jumpin' Jack Flash."
Sometimes when talking about records, we have to include 'industry' standards. By those rules, this was it-as far as chart placement, impact, legacy etc. However, I do agree that pound for pound, THIS was the last great Stones record. Let's be honest...not one single SOLID album from these guys since this record. Key word, SOLID. Highlights and faves are not the same as SOLID. I love the production on 'Bigger Bang'. I like a lot of Steel Wheels too...heck, I even like stuff from Dirty Work! I still don't understand why that album is dogged so bad, way better album than Undercover!!!
Love both of them
Awesome band Altered Images. Still listening in 2024
Excellent review. Definitely their best album. It's a great shame it was their last one
Bite is a briliant album The lastest album Mascara Streakz is brilliant its worth the money
Love Bite! Haven't heard the latest...kinda scared to listen.
Sunburst Finish an excellent ablum.... bought it for the cover and stayed for the music ✌️🙂 Bill Nelson is an amazing guitarist 🙂🎸 Thank you for giving the band ( Be Bop Deluxe ) & Bill some love ❤
Yes...a great cover! Bill Nelson is truly underrated as a guitarist...
I thought their album "Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire" was fantastic (definitely not rubbish) when it came out and it holds up over time. The lyrics and the music are classic.
I get it. I'm not too keen on those 'concept' records. I'm speaking colorfully using terms like "rubbish", that's my phrasing on what the labels were telling them.
Amusing that these "rubbish concept albums" are what most British fans consider their best period. Perhaps they were just too British for the US, which didn't get to hear much of them anyway.
This is the problem with The Kinks innit? That weird 'gap' where they vanished from the US scene. Sometimes things can get a bit too Brit for the US audiences, look at Britpop! I understand there was a time when 'serious artists' were tempted to over-indulge in their attempts at writing rock operas. That's a phase that is well left alone. Most people will cite Village Green..., or Muswell Hillbillies, but nobody ever talks about Soap Opera or Schoolboys. A little bit goes a long way in that stuff.
thanks for yelling back!
@@noisyrecordsmx Not so much of a problem for a Brit like me - having said that, the Kinks popularity here dropped away from the late 60s onwards, although there's been a resurgence in the last 30 years or so. I think the problem with some of the 'rubbish concept albums' - the two 'Preservations' and 'Soap Opera' in particular, is that they were written very much with stage shows in mind and, although they contain a few great songs, they make much more sense as part of a show than as isolated pieces of music - just my own view/theory.
GSTK
Face to Face and Something Else hooked me on the Kinks. But as new releases, I was most excited about Kronikles, Great Lost Kinks album, Schoolboys, Misfits and Phobia.
Phobia...really?!
@@noisyrecordsmx I'm curious as to what your favorites are.
@@michaelryan5364 I like these two, and early 80s Kinks, 'Low Budget' and 'Give The People...', partly due to sentimental reasons and when I first saw them!
The Kinks returned to America in 1969.
You’re 100 % wrong on the concept albums!!!! They were great … ear check…80 days bootleg is unbelievable! Schoolboys in Disgrace is a masterpiece and soap opera is fantastic- it’s about a Rock 22:57 Star wanting to be normal again- what a great idea for an album
i stand by my distaste for concept albums! sure, there's few that get through, but whether Ray or Pete, I just never 'got' that 60s/70s opera/concept thingy.
@@noisyrecordsmx in the long run it doesn’t really matter what we think- the music keeps playing on.
This is great! Thank you. When is Part 2 appearing?
Great insight 👍
Thanks John! Hope you enjoyed. Always great to hear the ‘Haircuts.
I know what you are trying to say when you claim The Kinks 'invented heavy metal' but, hmm. It would be truer to say they early songs were at the root of heavy metal. Having said that, The Kinks were MY band when I was growing up. They weren't allowed to tour in the US because they had pissed off the US musicians' union. Can't remember why, though. Mind I didn't much like the 'concept' albums, either, though there were some great songs. I was glad when they were ditched but I didn't know the reason till now.
Yes Rick, they kind of did the blueprint for metal. I totally get what you are saying. I'm sure you get that when you are trying to throw some bits out there and cram as much relevant info in a short amount of time, I can't elaborate too much. Just trying to focus on these two records, and how pivotal they were. Thanks for chiming in!
I loved the concept era!
Their management left them. In the middle of the tour, which cause some no shows, that was the issue with the AMA
I know, the bit about 'heavy metal' can turn into splitting hairs. But if you think about it, that sound wasn't around when they 'invented' it. We are looking back with 20/20 vision.
Another British band that wasn’t allowed into the US was The Pretty Things. SF Sorrow, great album.
Yes! been really enjoying the 'Pretties lately. I like some bits off 'Parachute' and particularly 'Freeway Madness'.
true!
I have 'Baby I Love You So' 12 inch which is a dub masterpiece . Had the album on cassette.
That’s a good one to have!

Rick Shlosser, I saw who plaid at my friend's Blues Club called Randell's. Randell named the restaurant Randell's who was the guitarist in the band Randell And The Acuals. There are too many to name. Ricck played on so many great recordings. You may not know his name or know who he is but you have heard him on the radio. If you have not heard Rick's friend Randell Young on guitar look him up. Rick Shlosser and Randell Young did a CD in tribute to Bob Dylan that is pretty good. This is a great interview Thank You! for sharing.
Hi Dana! Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed. It's true, if you listened to any radio station in the US throughout the 70s, you have heard Rick somewhere on there. Amazing!
@Noisy Records that is true even if you don't know who he is you have heard him. Here is an album I have with Rick Shlosser playing the drums. Tom Johnston - Everything You've Heard Is True (1979) [Complete Album] A lot of great musicians and Memphis Horns and Tower of Power Nicolette Larson and others... This is one to have in your collection. Also, he played with Jack Mack And The Heart Attack. Cardiac Party. I have that album too. You don't hear about that band anymore they were great musicians. Really enjoyed your reviews. I agree that Bite is Altered Images best album. I only listened to Spandau Ballets singles. I might check True out after this.
Thanks Joseph! I really don't understand why so many people overlook 'Bite'...it is a great album! A lot of people slag it off for its change in sound, but i think it suits them. Yes, you should give 'True' a listen. They had 4 really good singles from that LP, and there is only 8 tracks in total...so its basically like listening to the singles and their b-sides.
I would highly recommend the album True. I brought it in August 1983 and it just blew me away. So much so, I’m celebrating 40 years as a die hard Spandau fan this year. In my opinion, 1 or 2 of the album tracks could easily have been released as singles.
lets clear few things up on your views/review on adam and the ants,1,bazooka joe wasnt a punk band but rock n roll pub band which adam was in 1975 and not 1978, 2.adam never took members from bazooka joe band.3. adam never split the ants ,they justwanted to rested but adam conture with marco and merrick(chris hughes who was adam and the ants producer as well.)dog eat dog got adam in to the limelight and rest is history, you missed friend or foe, strip, manners and physqiue, vive le rock albums,be nice do your research before reviewing bands and whats they done and there career.
Hi Darren, The main focus of these brief segments are to spotlight certain releases in the shop, and when possible, show how they relate to others on hand. This is not meant to be an exhaustive piece on the Ants. This record was in the shop, so that’s the album that was focused on. However, it is meant to show how it relates to the other two pieces as well-THAT is the main thing. I don’t recall saying he took members from Bazooka Joe-only that a previous member did artwork for him. Also, I said McClaren ‘stole’ his ants. I appreciate feedback. Never claimed to be a historian, just trying to give some quick bits of info to bring others up to speed on whatever records are featured, and maybe...just maybe, get some new fans of some of these featured albums!
I love Bow wow wow .

"Take That Situation" has a wicked horn break. Love these two albums.
Take That Situation has got to be the most Haircut 100 sounding songs from Nick Heyward’s Solo work of his debut.
Been following them forever. Original lineup is awesome and my favorite, but I like the non Zoom albums as well. All X fans were thrilled when they released Alphabetland in spring of 2020. First new music from the original lineup in 35 years and it is vintage X. I will be seeing them with Psychadelic Furs in this summer.
Great live band too. Saw them three times.
