I have had the 5-year exemption, the last 15 years and never stay more than 4 months on it. Every few months, I need to get away and relax from the constant noise of vietnam and travel to Thailand, Bali, Singapore or Malaysia to reset.
@@darrellthody6125 Thank you. I know I may have to leave every 90 day, but I'll see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. But it might.
The flights between Vietnam, Malaysia & Thailand are quick, convenient & cheap. A lot of people spend more time everyday commuting to work in some countries. So why not spend 90 days on tourist visa in each , Thailand gives an extra 30 days on the 60 day visa & Malaysia is a free 90 day visit pass. They’re all great locations & you have variety & a refreshing change to your lifestyle. Accomodation is plentiful & reasonable cost. Having tourist status removes a lot of problems playing around with these other conditional visas.
Coming to VN for 1 -3 months to see if I want to retire there. I hope it works out. Going out every 90 days shouldn't be a problem IMO, like you said, a change of pace. Thanks
Aloha Attorney Ken Duong, Finally, someone has eloquently explained the various visa options available! After extensive online research for the best non-business e-visa and being married to a Vietnamese citizen, I decided to apply for the 5-year visa. Despite my efforts, I could not find anyone who could clearly differentiate between the 3-year and 5-year visas beyond the 6-month border exit requirement. The advice I received was often vague and inconsistent, especially online, where explanations can be grossly misleading. In just 18 minutes and 15 seconds, you managed to clarify what no other source could, particularly those without a financial incentive. Your clear and concise explanation was invaluable. Your opinion on the visas category is just your personal opinion from your perspectives not necessarily true for others case. It’s all based on personal preferences. But thanks for explaining!
in order for Vietnam to increase tourism, they need to implement Visa on arrival... I was forced to pay $850 for 3 travellers to get 2 hour expedited service for a trip in the morning. ALL U.S. visitors do not make this costly mistake of not getting an evisa at least 10 days before travel.
In July 2022 I visited under the 30 day evisa and developed an eye problem which was successfully treated by an international eye hospital in Hanoi but if I had delayed seeking treatment could have required an operation preventing flying for 30 days due to the insertion of a gas bubble. Next time I will obtain the 90 day multiple entry evisa to handle all contingencies. Not sure what would have happened in 2022 if I had had the operation as the evisa could not be extended.
I am on a 3yr TT TRC renewed every 3 years. I am a foreigner and my wife is Vietnamese what happens when we get older and my wife passes away before me and don’t have kids Do I have to leave vietnam as my wife is not there to sponsor my visa. What visa category will be available for this situation? What happens to the properties we jointly own during marriage can I still hold it?
Exactly, you will need to leave the country, as you have a sponsor visa. However, we can secure the properties with the right setup for you. Hopefully, it is not happening in the near future. But if you need help with that, feel free to send us an email and we can schedule a meeting to prepare those events.
That is a very good question and would love to know the answer. There are some foreigners I know that got a 10 year Permanent residence card but not sure how maybe after having a few TRC you can apply and I heard it could be extended if god forbid your wife passes . Another grey area is legal wills I haven’t heard anyone give a straight answer on that . These are topics the government needs to make clear so that foreigners rights are protected
Wish Vietnam has a retirement visa. Someone like me who worked for 30 years don't want to work anymore and just want to enjoy our lives. Right now, I am just using the 90 days visa, made agreement with my wife's relatives to purchase land in the countryside which they can fully take over ownership after 10 years. Living in the countryside way better than city life.
Heh heh heh. I flew to Vietnam for my "first" trip there. They almost screened me out at the departing gate while I was traveling there, but when they asked me for my passport and visa i told them I was going to get a visa upon arrival. They let me pass. Upon arrival, it was like I had insulted them and was a fugitive from the Vietnam War. Ha ha. The military guys were very angry, even after I told them I didnt have an e-visa or any other visa for that matter. Fortunately there was a civilian Vietnamese government or airport or tourist agent that assisted me in getting a ticket out of there post haste. It was quite more expensive than a discounted ticket i could have mustered online, but I wasn't going to push it. I think I was one step away from a holding cell. Originally, they were going to make me return to my previous stop en route but i was somehow able to pursuade the gentleman to let me proceed onward to Thailand. All my trips there since then have been uneventful. The LORD was with me on that day for sure. I love Vietnam and accept and appreciate it for what it is. I hope to return again soon.
Thanks for sharing. We think you got an "urgent visa", as the visa-on-arrival program no longer exists. Actually, airlines are held accountable for checking whether you have a visa or not. Most of the time, if you don't have a visa (given that you are not eligible for a visa waiver), airlines don't even allow check-ins and you can't board the plane.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Yes, the airline staff checked me at the boarding gate but allowed me to board anyway. I thought (incorrectly) that entry into Vietnam was similar to or the same as Thailand's visa system. Nevertheless, I slipped through the cracks. I was fortunate to be allowed to purchase a ticket rather than be prosecuted for illegal entry. The only option for me was to board the next flight out-of-country. I wasn't going to argue since I was on the verge of being an international criminal. I actually was a little apprehensive making my first legal trip returning back to Vietnam; I wondered if I was flagged or blacklisted and might be apprehended upon arrival 😁. I still love Vietnam. I educated myself on visas and went to the consulate general in Houston TX in person in case there might be some problem with traveling to VN. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work, Sir. I appreciate your reply to my comment. It's a small world.
Hi Ken, I been travelling to vn for many years and I get tourist visa. I come at least twice or 3 times a year. I would like to know if there is any visa that I could get for a longer period . I will come to vn in Sept end and plan to get a multiple entry tourist visa . I need a visa for my stay from from 27/9 to 9/11. Any suggestions and would like to meet up for a drink or coffee as I follow your channel and build friendship. Thankyou and look forward to your response .
Hey, I thought you could apply for 90-day single entry evisa, you made it sound like it was either one or the other, but it can be a single entry for 30 days or 90 days correct? Should be Single entry 30-day or Single entry 90 day ($25 usd) and multiple entry 30-days or multiple entry 90-day ($50 usd)
@davidj7516 , the information you got is incorrect. First, there is no multiple entry 30-day e-visa but only 30-day single entry e-visa. Second, whether the 90-day e-visa is single or multiple entry, the government fee is identical. Thus, it is assumed that all 90-day e-visa applicants opt for multiple entry option.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Thank you again. I triple-checked. Seems there are a 'few' independent companies offering visas for a fee. What I found is basically, 90 days is US$50... Hopefully. Thank you again.
I currently have the 5 year visa exemption which is going to expire soon. my wife is Vietnamese and is still has a Vietnam passport. She currently lives in USA with me with green card. Is it worth applying for the TT visa since I have to renew soon.
When is your passport expiring? The TT visa with TRC is worth it. If you need a detailed assessment, please send us an email to william@duongbusinessconsulting.com
Hello. If I take 3 month multiple entry visa, can I stay for the whole 90 days in Vietnam, or I must exit and come back to and from Vietnam at some point? Thanks.
The description for the Investor Visa, sounds like the Business Visa. Why is an Investor concerned about employees? When I think of Investors, I think like Shark Tank or people just buying stocks in the company. Can you clarify a little more please?
An investor is very likely to be a director of the company or business they are directly investing in. Ergo, they have to be concerned. By law. Shark Tank is entertainment.
I was working in VN and had a bank account with Shinhan. I left and let it close by itself. This was years ago now. I have a 5 year VEC sponsored by my wife. Is there any way to open a new bank acc without converting to a working visa? Does TRC let me open a bank acc?
The biggest misconception people have is that the 5 year Visa exemption is a Visa it isn’t. Exemption means you are EXEMPT from having a Visa you do not need one . If you are overseas Vietnamese and using one but plan to stay long term in Vietnam it would be better to invest in a Vietnamese passport. If you are married to a Vietnamese and have one another option especially if you want to work is the marriage TRC . I have been using a 5 year visa exemption now for over 15 years got one when they first came out . It has been perfect for my needs as I do not work in Vietnam and always travel to other countries for trips before the 6 months are up . You can extend it at immigration for another 6 months , once in a 12 months period for 10 USD so technically you can stay in the country one year before you have to leave. I got stuck in Vietnam during Covid and lost tract of the number of times immigration kept extending the 6 months they were very accommodating. Someday I may get a TRC but the VEC has been perfect for me never had any hassles
No. While the term "5-year visa exemption" for Vietnam might suggest it's different from a traditional visa, it is a visa. A visa typically allows the holder to enter, stay, or leave a country under specific conditions, and this exemption grants similar privileges, aligning it with the basic definition of a visa. Whether it comes under a visa sticker or a standalone paper, it makes no difference. It is still a visa. Despite being labeled an exemption, you still need to apply for it like any standard visa procedure. Additionally, the exemption requires holders to leave the country every 6 months to maintain their status and obtain new stamps upon re-entry, mirroring the requirements of many other visas. Moreover, this exemption needs to be renewed every five years, further emphasizing its role of a visa. The term "exemption" primarily means that the holder is exempt from applying for a separate visa for each entry within those five years, not that they are exempt from all visa-like regulations and controls. Thus, despite its name, the Vietnam 5-year visa exemption is a visa.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting No as a lawyer I can’t understand why you don’t understand the meaning of the word exemption. VEC is another document for getting into Vietnam just like the temporary residence card and permanent residence card but you are confused about that as well calling a marriage TRC a marriage visa ? Of course I must apply for it and prove I am married to a local and I know I can’t work but you are wrong when you say you must leave every six months . You can extend once in a 12 month period by going to immigration and paying 10 USD trust me I have done many times . This is a misleading video grouping all these things into one topic about Visa they are all different and apply to different people . The average person watching would not even be eligible for a VEC And telling people the best way is to get a work Visa not everyone wants to come to Vietnam and get a job teaching English . I thought you were an immigration lawyer ?
That is because you are not a lawyer nor understand visa classification. The VEC is a visa category. Whether it is called x or y, at the end of the day, it is still a visa. The Marriage visa or TT visa only gives you 3 months but when coupled with a TRC, it gives you 2 years, as the TRC supersedes your visa status. The VEC is NOT like the TRC for many reasons. One of them is that you can’t get a TRC without being under qualified visas like work or marriage. You can’t apply for a TRC directly unlike the 5-year visa exemption because the TRC or prc are not visa types Immigration laws are not rational, so there is no need to fight over semantic and show you know better.
I had the 5 Year Visa Exemtption as a foreigner married to a Vietnamese lady. Upon arrival from the USA. I had 6 months time in country. To extend my stay, without leaving VN, I used a travel service to obtain a new stamp in my passport allowing me another 6 month stay. I paid $ 169.00 USD to the travel agent representative, whose offices were located in District 3, HCMC.
I was born in Vietnam but they can’t find any of my birth certificate there. I want to live in Vietnam but I can’t because the government said I don’t have any paperwork there. My mom is currently a citizen and living in Vietnam. Please what should I do?
My wife and I applaud for the 90-day evisa. I have a USA passport and got 90 days. My wife is on a Fiji passport and only got 15 days. Is it possible to apply for a 90-day tourist visa at a consulate or embassy outside of Vietnam? This works for visas of Thailand and Indonesia.
We did apply after the 90-day evisas were available, and did it online, no problem. I am a dual citizen, USA and Fiji. My wife only has a Fiji passport. The first time we applied for visa, we both used Fiji passports. The response from Vietnam immigration said that the length of stay is solely at the discretion of Vietnam immigration, and we both got 15-days. The next time I used my USA passport and I got 90 days, but she still got 15 days. We. Hoped an embassy could help as my next trip I will be bringing 3 Fiji passport holders. If we can’t get at least 30-days we will go to Cambodia instead, just for the visa convenience. Thanks Ken. Btw, last trip we were able to spend an hour with Calvin Bui, what a wonderful experience.
As a US citizen that would like to live in Vietnam for a year , may I just renew my E visa tourist visa 3 times ? I understand I’d have to leave the country 3 times.
That is possible but there is a risk of being denied entry if you do three 90-day visas back-to-back under the suspicion of working illegally in Vietnam.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Last question. Would I be eligible for another type of visa that would allow me to stay in Vietnam without the risk of being denied or suspicion of work ? Thank you so much for your input !
Also at 6:15 you state visa exemption for certain countries is allowed from 30 to 45 days. The correct numbers are from 14 to 90 days. Your own graphic shows it correctly but your narrative does not.

hi may i ask why with a 5 year visa exemption, i presume is a visa to allow u to obtain TRC as well right? if still under tourist category, then i believe like what u said atm/debitcard/onlinebanking
@@katfishjohnYou can apply for online e visa for 90 days three months . I believe it’s about 25 USD you pay online with credit card the application is straight forward they ask if you have been to Vietnam before ,have you been on another passport if you are a dual citizen and ask if you have insurance.Insurance isn’t mandatory so don’t know why they ask . You will upload photos of your passport information page and a passport photo of yourself. The hardest thing is to get your photo right follow all the instructions and you need to play around to get the photo to fit form . If the photo isn’t right they will reject but will give you a chance to fix without paying again. Once you submit you get a reply right away saying you paid and just wait 4 to 5 business days and they will send you email of visa or tell you what is missing. Best print off a hard copy of the visa to give officer when you arrive. It really is easy but if you have trouble you can always pay an agent a fee and they will do it all for you but you shouldn’t have to . If you want to stay longer than 3 months fly to BBK and apply right away online and after a week you can fly back to VN . The application for 3 months visa can not be submitted while you are still in Vietnam on a previous visa . Again make sure it is the government of Vietnam visa site and not some private web site .

It’s unfortunate that you lose credibility when you don’t even get the tourist eVisa correct. At the beginning (5:19) you state that there is only a 30 day single entry or a 90 day multiple entry visa which is not correct. You can get single entry visa for anywhere between 7 (or less) -90 days. You can also get multiple entry for 7-90 days. You simply change the default # of days in the drop down list on the eVisa application page. Of course it’s usually best to get the maximum 90 days in either case for flexibility. Sorry for being picky but details matter greatly especially with visas.
It is even more unfortunate that you do not get even that part right. At 5:19, Attorney Ken Duong never mentioned that you can ONLY get a multiple entry tourist e-visa of 90 days or a single entry tourist e-visa. Did he say "only"? He never mentioned the word "only". Therefore, you are commenting about something he did not say. If details matter, you may want to get them right first before correcting others, Darrell.
Not sure why anyone would want to get anything other than a tourist visa for Vietnam. The country is polluted, the economy is terrible for anyone not connected to officials unless you're doing something illegal. After all, Vietnam has never been known as the land of opportunity, but the exact opposite.
I got lazy to watch the entire video because I wanted to know about the aqua blue visa lol which I have. Why is it 💩? I thinks its an okay visa. Im not interested in working or over staying 😵💫
We disagree. This phrasing is grammatically incorrect because "worse" is a comparative adjective and needs something to compare to directly in the context. If you wanted to use "worse," it would need to be in a comparison, such as "Vietnam's Worse Visa Compared to blablabla" or "Vietnam's Visa: Bad to Worse. "Vietnam's Worst Visa" is the correct form if we want to talk about the least effective or most problematic visa offered by Vietnam. It implies that out of all the visas, this one is the least beneficial or comes with many issues.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting I see where you’re coming from with that. But in this case, you’re comparing Vietnam’s visa to what someone might think. So the visa is “worse than what you perceive it to be”. It’s probably NOT the worst visa though, in all actuality.
Once I came to Vietnam and I decided to go to Thailand for a short trip and returned back to Vietnam after a week. When I got to the airport they told me I only had a Visa for one entry. So they tried to extort me for money. I didn't pay them and told them I needed to call my family in Vietnam for advice. And then when I was done talking to my aunt I tried to pay them and they said no it's too late and they made me stay in a holding cell till the next morning to fly back to Thailand to get a new visa and then return back. What a bunch of goofs and a stupid system. Lesson learned just pay them to leave you alone because that's what they're all about.
One incident doesn't mean "...they're all..." One pickpocket does not mean all Vietnamese are dishonest. And I'm betting you did NOT have a multiple-entry visa. You went with the cheaper single-entry visa, then tried to bribe the border officers. But that is just a really good guess. Just like most people, blaming others for your own inadequacies.

So, what type of visa do foreign professional TH-cam vloggers have to obtain? It's a business activity.
Working in tourism between Cambodia and Vietnam, Cambodia has zero visa problems while Vietnam made me headaches all the time
Cambodia takes a whole f’in page of your passport each time!
@@jduncan48not if you apply for an e-visa, then they'll just stamp it
in order for Vietnam to increase tourism, they need to implement Visa on arrival...
Glad to hear that you recovered from your eye issue.
You'll lose everything and they will kick you back where you came from. Vn had no retirement for older folks unless they worked for government
Hopefully her family could sponsor, I assume.
I have you to take care of all my needs when I land in Vietnam, I don't need to be concerned about my visa

Just looked at it. 3 mos. w/ multiple entries = US$104. 3 mos. w/ single entry = US$94. 1 mon. multiple = US$84. One mon. single = US$54. :)
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting And thank you also.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Thank you again. I triple-checked. Seems there are a 'few' independent companies offering visas for a fee. What I found is basically, 90 days is US$50... Hopefully. Thank you again.

Please watch that segment from 8:55 onwards. We talk about it.
You can’t apply for a TRC directly unlike the 5-year visa exemption because the TRC or prc are not visa types
Immigration laws are not rational, so there is no need to fight over semantic and show you know better.
@user-go2st5fi9w, That is an extension of stay. But you can't legally apply for two consecutive extensions.

It needs to be applied online. We can do it for you if needed.

We are lazy to answer...
Sorry to be a stickler about grammar, but you mean WORSE, not WORST.

And then when I was done talking to my aunt I tried to pay them and they said no it's too late and they made me stay in a holding cell till the next morning to fly back to Thailand to get a new visa and then return back.
