- Here is my little journey of the van repair from trying the cheapest repair, to actually finding out what the real cost of the repair was :)
Enjoy this little van repairing "adventure" and I will see you next week for a camping trip to Northumberland...
Stay awesome everyone and above all, be kind...
Just changed my intercooler at 18 years old with 235,000 miles on it. Other than that, never had an issue but then again I'm a VW master tech😉
At least you got your holiday done before it did this to you. Handy that it happened at service time and your garage were able to solve and sort it quickly. Carrying all that wine back from France probably finished it off. Good video for people who are at a garage who are scratching their head about the light being on.
I'm glad you had is fixed, 🥰but it makes me thankful I own an early (1992) petrol T4 camper. No dreaded engine light and no ODBII to worry about. Fingers crossed, no issues at all in the 4 years I've owned it. I wouldn't change it for a modern T5 or 6.
Proper mechanics your van mate, can be fixed with a few tools and a bit of spit 🤙🤙
Just been watching couple of vanlifers, those happy days, £10500 on a new engine and now it has a blown head gasket, weeks before the garage can look at it and that was a Citroen. Any vehicle always has a risk of an expensive fault. Regular servicing from a trusted specialist is the best protection. Aftermarket Warranties can protect from devastating cost but they are not cheap. In general I think making a servicing fund where you put £100-£200 a month is a good buffer for servicing, tyres, repairs, upgrades.
This pain is very real. I’m currently going through a full engine strip down & rebuild on mine 😩😩 absolutely gutted
Love your vids Colin, cheer me right up on a miserable Tuesday. Much Love.
Another ace video 👍👍
Great to see it sorted out Colin 👍🏻. I tried to fix my daughter's VW polo TDI. Pluged it in same lights kept coming on. £1500 later chasing lights 😢😢
Never had a split intercooler myself, I've had a split boost pipe before. I'd tell you what to check though Col, the EGR Valve! They clog up with carbon and are easy enough to clean with brake/Xarb cleaner. It's a must do with all diesel engines. Great informative vlog again Col 🙏👌
I’ve just had to replace my split intercooler on an early T6 having done 73k miles. It was noisy, juddery and much reduced mpg. Well, at least I know I am in good company Colin!!
Glad you got your van sorted, some of your videos are like a trip down memory lane, I've driven on those roads many times and walked around the market on a friday afternoon.
Ah thanks so much, I am too...
Glad I could bring back some nostalgia for you!
Have an ace weekend
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures you have a few times & all have been good memories, hope you have a great weekend 😊
I had the same issue as you a couple of months back on our 66 plate T6. Coil light on dash 😢 I replaced the MAF sensor and also the N75 valve. It didn't sort things so I took it to the garage. I had a split intercooler, everything has fine since getting that replaced.
I had this issue all the way back from Scotland. I was told I needed a new turbo until I saw a hole in the intercooler.
My map sensor was covered in oil putting the van in limp mode without any boost.
Of course when I went to change the map sensor the screw heads rounder off.
Haha there is always something that makes a relatively "easy" job become a nightmare.... rounding screws off bud, I feel your pain 😭
Just noticed that you live really close to me (waves from Ilkley!) we’re just considering getting a T6 so soaking up all the info online - tested 3 nights in a mates van and I think we’re going to go for it 😊
You beat me to it!! Colin! You need a helmet! Never mine the quiff!! Safety first!
Just had the same thing on my T5.1. Limp mode activated as soon as I went over 50mph or up a big hill, basically when you were trying to give it some..... Had loads of checks, minor things changed but then my mechanic found a crack and hole in the intercooler. Made a massive difference to the van overall & mpg etc...
Glad you got it sorted mate... if it drives like mine does now bud I bet it's lovely! (Until the next thing 😬🤣🤣)
Our T6 was exactly the same after returning to Stoke from Watergate Bay Devon. (It’s just seems strange that both our vans got us home then the problem occurs) I took it to the local garage as the engine management light was on. They replaced the intercooler and everything has been sound since. 👍🏻 It’s a great shout to everyone to get it checked. I think the front bumper has to be removed to check.👍🏻
Ah mate, I literally feel your pain. Glad it's sorted though...
Anyone reading this, definitely check the intercooler before it's too late
Well done col having 3 years of no hassle my 6.1 is 12 months old and had vw assist out 3 times now waiting 3 weeks till they can look at it 😂
Oh no that's rubbish! Hope you get it sorted soon matey
Feel your pain, I’ve had a flashing coil light and power loss issue for a year!!
Been to 3 garages including main Steeler Vw with no fix!!
Just had another guy to fix it, fingers flippin crossed this time 😂😂🙈🙈
Ah mate, I feel your pain! Hope it's sorted now buddy!
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures cheers loads Colin, hope yours is too!! 🏁🏁😂🙏
Don’t know what’s more shocking. The split intercooler or the fact Mr YPT wasn’t wearing a helmet whilst riding his bike lol
Yeah totes bad on my part.... Always wear a helmet :)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Live dangerously. Too much safety crap.
I tell you whats not shocking, someone commenting on it.
I do exactly the same as you to get back after leaving the van for a service / MOT, only mine is a Brompton.
Nice bike buddy, if I could have afforded one I would have one mate.... but the ebike was free (a promotion thing from ages ago) so it'd be rude not to 🤣🤣! Should have worn a helmet though DOH!
Never had an intercooler go on any of my transporters if in doubt get an egr delete dpf delete a forge intercooler and a remap all sorted
Col every van has its faults but that was a lovely ford transit custom behind you there 😂😂
Haha brilliant
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures ditch the VW and by a real van lol
I’m quite pleased for you Colin 😊, nothing worse than Van technicals , been there myself recently. One observation from the vid, , it did look like you cycled back to the van a lot quicker than riding home😂 was that the editing or excitement!?
🤣🤣🤣 I think I did mate 🤣🤣
Intercooler is an easy job, you could have done it yourself, you’ve done harder stuff on that van! Had to do mine a few months back and only took an hour or so.
I'd love to think I could mate but this one was above me this time :)
Thanks for the video Colin. Handy little e-bike, what make is it?
No problems bud... its by a company called Fido :) I've still got it and use it a lot (mainly in summer to nip to the shops)
T6 2016, the same as yours. My EGR, Intercooler and clutch went within a three month period.
Blimey 😬sounds expensive
Bloody hell mate, that's not ideal is it... hope it's sorted now
I had a three month warranty from the dealer, and the first two went within that period, so he took a hit for £1400. Clutch was on me though, so. £1300.
Glad you sorted out the issues
But Mr Quiff why are you on a bike with no helmet and why are you calling your van a car 🤪👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Have you got a link from where u got ya seat covers from? love the channel
Hey buddy, thank you.... they are from UK Custom Covers...
Colin now wheres your safety helmet riding that bike?!🙄
Yep, my bad! Should always wear a helmet, no excuses ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures good man!
Do I get a prize for suggesting it was your intercooler? It was an educated guess as mine went on the T5.1 and the error code is for the system. Therefore likely to be the inter cooler or leaks in the hoses in that system.
Just converted my crafter then problem with the engine had to buy a new engine 😮
We had the same problem it went on us tho why we were in Cornwall on are hols. got RAC out put us a new one on took about 3 hrs so wasn't to bad really
That's super fortunate, glad it's all sorted now!
Was going to mention the no helmet on bike but i see its been done.😂
Hiya Colin. Can I ask what ebike are you riding? I have a Mirider but it doesn't fit in the T6 without folding and it's heavy, your bike didn't look at all heavy. Thank you.
Hiya, sorry for the late response, sometimes TH-cam doesn't notify me....
I'm riding the Fido D3 (I got it about 2 years ago when I used to do sponsored stuff) - great little bike with about 30 mile range (on the flat) - I've done a full video on it somewhere on the channel, worth a watch :)
I’ve got the engine management light on, DPF light on, and a flashing coil light. Don’t know where to start with it. 2007 T5
Mate thats not good.... I'd take it to a garage for them to pop it on the diagnostic machine to see what the issue is
Hi noticed you have the comfort dash (shiny lid above glove box) did this come with your van or did u add extra .?? If so where did you get it from .? Cheers
Hey Lee,
Yeah I bought it a while back from Van X (I got one that was "slightly damaged" and it was way cheaper but I couldn't find any damage on it when it arrived... keep an eye out for any of those on their site too
Perfect cheers I’ll keep an eye out , was it a easy install .?
Easiest install I've done on the van bud, a couple of screws and it's in ;)
👍
What mpg you getting now Colin?
Just did a 40 mile round trip to Tadcaster and got 41mpg :)
My daughter had these issues with her audi and cost over £900 !
That's nuts mate!
Completely off topic what bike is that you’ve got? Thanks
Hey buddy, it's a folding ebike by Fido, I was given it ages ago to review (which I did) and now I use it loads to nip to the shops etc.... came in really handy on this occasion #notsponsored
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures
I thought you were a proper cyclist, e-bike ?
Haha I much prefer the "normal bike" mate.
How many paranoid Transporter owners now after watching that 👀😂
If you own a Transporter and are not already paranoid by default, there is something not quite right 🤣🤣🤣
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures fair one, i did my timing belt and water pump a few days before heading off for France and Belgium, luckily I did as the water pump was weeping and I had no idea, still on edge the whole time I was there though 🙈
Recently found your channel.... How do you have so much hair? Is it a wig? Jealous from a 35yr old with thinning hair
Haha welcome on board matey! 🤣🤣 you can live vicariously through my quiff :) 🤣🤣
Jake looks like Sam smith
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wheres your crash helmet when on your bike . .tut tut tut..not nice!
You're totally right, I should have had it on mate. No excuses
Hi Col! Please wear a helmet when riding your bike, I got knocked off my bike by a car, and my head hit the road. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet ( which broke in two), I'm sure I would have suffered brain damage! Take care.
100% matey, you're totally right. One bad decision can change lives! Glad you're ok my friend
This pain is very real. I’m currently going through a full engine strip down & rebuild on mine 😩😩 absolutely gutted
