We have a squadron (the proper term is a murder of crows) of Cape Crows in our area. They may not be raptors but when they flock together you have to be careful for the safety of any small cats, kittens, puppies or even chickens and especially their chicks. Crows are not totally carnivorous like the birds who fall into the raptor category, however, they are predators and will seek small animals and birds for their consumption.
The other day our cat was on the roof and a whole murder of crows were preparing to do just that to our fully grown cat. Against one or two crows the cat would stand a chance but against a group of ten or more the odds are against even the most fearless cat. Especially when the cat is domesticated and not feral. I stood outside shouted and waved my arms around and eventually they reluctantly left. At least kitty is safe.

@@meet.brandon We live right next to a wetland which is guarded and protected by our National Parks Board Service. As a result of this we do have a lot of wild birds in our area who frequent the wetland. I have observed hawks flying over the wetland and at night I hear the hooting of owls as they hunt. I live in Cape Town South Africa and our nature reserves are in places right next to built up suburbs. Developers have tried to wrest the wetland area away for their own purposes but the local people as well as the National Parks Board have fought them off fiercely. Quite close to Cape Town more towards the Stellenbosch area there is a special park where raptors are kept while recovering from injuries. There are a couple who will never be able to be released who are permanently at the park. They are used to do short shows for the public whose support keeps the park going. I have seen amazing footage of the hunting skills of the Peregrine falcons but to be quite honest with you I am not sure whether or not they actually inhabit our region.
The change in the global weather patterns has brought about a strange change to our migratory bird population. Even though we are in the depths of winter we have a murmur of starlings here. They love to come just before dusk to steal my dog's pellets. She is a German Shepherd, and the kibbles are big. These naughty birds pick them up out of her bowl and take them to our roof where they roll them to break them up. I feed them when I can, but our weather is very stormy, wet and icy cold at the moment with devastating floods in some areas. It is hard to put out feed in this weather. Lord Willing I will be able to soon.

It seems like a hawk to me, most likely a cooper's hawk. I tell usually by the banded tail feathers and tan, flecked undersides.
