  • Guitar cover of Clone, originally by Gojira from their album Terra Incognita. Thanks to Patryk Kopo for providing bass - be sure to check out his channel too!
    Tuning - D Standard
    D, G, C, F, A ,D
    Some tricky parts in this one. The intro will take a little while to get use to and not create excessive tension in your hand - if your hand hurts while practising it, stop for a bit.
    The tremolo near the middle can be a little tricky. Start with the middle harmony that doesn't change first then work on the other ones that move around.
    The break down towards the end has some odd time signatures but has a general repeating idea that has two different endings to it. The first variation has a 7/8 bar then the other has a 3/4 bar.
    Gear - Ibanez Art320, Ernie Ball 11-48, JBL 305 monitors, Logic Pro X, UA-25EX interface, D'Addario Duralin Precision 1mm
    Audio and video are recorded separately. I feel it makes a better video at the end 🤘

    Small correction - the riff at 1:17 should be 32nds not 16th triplets!
    Thanks Neon Black for pointing it out 🤘

    Clone is still the hardest Gojira song to play for me, just because of intro riff (weak pinkie). Even Magma is easier with it's all-over-the-place harmonics. This is hell of a riff to start debut album

    This is so sick man! I had absolutely no idea what they were playing when i first heard the song, this is so helpful! Btw, you should totally do Ocean Planet next, it has one of my favorite breakdowns at the end.

    Great stuff mate! Absolute beast haha. Props for that intro and verse. So hard to play lol. Made it look easy! I notice that watching this song live, Joe just taps the parts that aren't palm muted too. One of my favorite songs!

    • @Robher85
      @Robher85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe he changes it around on the tapping part you’re talking about, cuz I’ve seen him play that part live where he just pics it once and with the left hand does hammer ons and pull offs.

    • @Cameron9788
      @Cameron9788 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Robher85 Hmm yeah maybe! The live videos I'm talking about are back in 2007-2010 (th-cam.com/video/y6gmNxPj9PI/w-d-xo.html) so maybe he stopped doing that a bit later on. Always find it interesting to see how things change over time when playing songs live

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think he tends to play the first lower part picked and then the higher part legato live. I went with extra picking as I preferred the sound to be honest, and it helped me keep time too.

    • @Cameron9788
      @Cameron9788 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly, my best advice is to find songs you enjoy playing that have tremolo in. Find several so you have some variety and don't get bored of playing the same riff all the time when practising.

    First of all I watched all your Gojira videos, what an incredible talent! Excellent! I would like to ask you, how do you achieve the tone ?

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I missed your comment! I use the old LePou plugins a lot as well as the Ignite Amps Emissary sim. I use GodsCab impulses, and occasionally some marshal and diezel ones.

  • @Alejandro-db2xj
    @Alejandro-db2xj 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Excelent!!! Great play, I have that same guitar! I am already watching all your gojira covers and learn them. Can you explain how you equalize and what distortion/effects do you use for gojira songs? That would be really usefull, thank you so much for all your work in this channel

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, if you're interested in mixing have a look at URM Academy and the videos on their channel. There's some great knowledge there!
      I typically use an older amp sim called Le456 by LePou and TSE808 as a tubescreamer plugin clone. You do need an impulse loader for the LePou plugins though. Also the Ignite Amps Emissary from STL tones is another good free choice.

    I've been struggling for so long to get faster at the palm muted part of the intro. Whenever I try to go faster than 85ish BPM my hands just don't sync up and it sounds awful. Any tips for breaking through?

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly it took me practising over the course of a couple of weeks and it gradually became easier. If I don't practise it I can feel the tension creeping back in my arms. I wouldn't practise it excessively, just for a few minutes a few times a day. I use the speed trainer in guitar pro, but a metronome will do the job too.
