I don’t see how the speedrun mods were in the wrong at any point, but that is the imposed question at the end of this video. Their job is to moderate. They provided evidence Dream was cheating and he did actually cheat. They are biased towards irrefutable evidence, not Dream...

@@lolgenitor7065 at fault for what, exactly? “Cancelling” Dream? Nah man this would barely make a dent on Dream’s career from his differentiated content (DreamSMP, Manhunt, or his fans in general won’t change that much). They were just doing their job and calling out a person for hacking.
If anything, DREAM is also at fault because there were death threats from his stans too. I’ll admit that both sides had a contribution for the better and for the worse, but Dream could of stopped this if he thought, “what if I really was hacking?” earlier on. Dream needs to grow up, and until then, I’m quite disappointed on him. From all the death threats and time he could of saved if he saw both sides of the coin.

      @anzyjupiter7474 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

They never really had to make videos about it. It's not really a thing as far as I'm aware. If somebody's run gets removed, usually you can just remove that one run in question (I could be mistaken on that note), and tell the runner why. Sure, dream tweeted about it, but realistically he didn't name any names and the whole issue would've gone away a lot faster if that was the end of it. They posted a video, and then there was a target for the hate. Geosquares channel isn't really FOR explaining why speedruns are removed, it was done for views. They tried justifying it with "if we explain why we did it we thought we wouldn't get hate", but I think everybody's seen enough internet drama to know that's not how it works. The less back and forth there is the less drama there is. I'm not saying that it's all geosquares or the mods fault, but even posting that video was a bad call, and a poor reaction to a tweet about it.

Glad so many of the comments are pointing out how ridiculous it is to put the blame on the moderators here. Even in their paper they were biased in favor of dream not cheating but even with that heavy bias the numbers still determined that he cheated. The number his astrophysics came to was debunked by a ton of sources and it wasn’t even close to just “some really good luck” stand up maths has a great video that shows mathematically that even if everyone on earth was constantly playing Minecraft around the clock for over a 100 years no one would even get close to that kind of luck. They did their job and they did it well. The run was cheated, they removed it. They tried dealing with it privately, dream made it public, they then responded to it publicly. It’s just such a weird take saying they were at fault in anyway given the timeline of events as well as the fact that he undeniably cheated his run. They weren’t the ones running around name calling and rallying their millions of followers.

Dream cheated, plain and simple, to put the moderators in with this argument is a bad case of muddying the waters, and utilizing the "Whataboutism" tactic.
If I'm blunt, Dream needs to learn a lesson from this event, that deception and trying to hide the truth is going to backfire. Further, I'd seriously wish he would confront his more zealous fans, and shut down the hostility they have towards anyone who is anything less than fawning over him. Fans are tricky, but the cult-like behaviour is a dangerous force that malicious and narsicistic folks could only dream of using as a weapon.

In my knowledge they never went cancelling him they just laid down facts and clear cut data to prove him wrong. They also accept dream's contribution to speedrunning community which gave them more fame. Speedrunning was open to all and was never biased.Example would be dani and hbomb they are still recognised as speedrunners. So the fact that speedrun community was rude to him does not make sense. I completely disagree with "both sides reacted poorly". The speedrun mods were hundred percent professional in dealing with this. They made a verdict and stuck with it throughout all this. The speedrun community was only reacting to annoyed stans. It is true that he became a disliked figure but nobody was going after him or anything. His 1.16 runs was removed 5 months ago but the rest of his runs were only removed recently because they also had some suspicious stuff going on. I don't know the exact details, but I do know that its not solely because he had cheating history, even though it was one of the reasons. Its also notable that mods can only "unlist" the run from the leaderboard but it was dream who completely deleted the runs from the site altogether. Other than that, great video as always :D

The issue is how Minecraft works. Dream has consistently changed versions, in fact, either the day after Dream sent that speedrun, or the day after he offered the mods his mod folder, there’s conflicting information there, he changed to 1.15. This meant the mods that he had in the folder wouldn’t work, so he had to delete the mod folder, or move the mods around, which, given that he also uses the mod developer for the mods that appear in his challenge videos, and on his friends channels, the amount of changes to be done to the folder at the time, especially since he was doing his manhunts about 1 version behind, 2 versions behind after 1.16 came out, you can see how the confusion started. On top of that, according to Karl Jobst, who is making a video of his own, the mod that Dream mentioned did more than simply increase drop rates, it also does what sodium does, makes the game run better. There’s better launching time, less particles, boosted framerate, and other quality of life changes that make the video quality better.
Given that the mod was labeled “Dream’s Recording Mod” you wouldn’t think that pearl and rod rates would be boosted as well.

Andrei, the biggest reason is apology is so sus is because of how minecraft mods work; different "versions" of the installation need to be made, for example with Dream the 1.16 version would be separate from the modded "manhunt pearl trade increasing" version. This implies that he loaded the different version *6 different times* for each stream "unknowingly", yet wouldn't he be able to see that he's loading the wrong version? Why would he load the exact same version several times without even noticing the pearl trade increase. In addition, this just came to me so prob some holes in this, he mentioned in a manhunt "this is why I cheated" as a joke (not saying that is his admission) and yet if the mod provided boosted trades, what exactly was he complaining about in his manhunt video which the mod was specifically made for?

Dream on the other hand mocked the accusation, tried miserably to rebuke it, and fought it basically to the bitter end. Even the speed-run community itself reacted more maturely than Dream's community/stans.
As to his "unmodded" runs, it's standard protocol in the speed-running community to look at the speed-runs of known cheaters with more scrutiny, and when they did that, they noticed those runs were suspicious, so they unlisted them. Just apologize dude. I will never see Dream in the same light, and I do not want to support his content in the slightest. I hope the speedrun moderators don't get harassed like this in the future. I kind of disagree. We don't know for sure that how it happened isn't how he said it did. I think freaking out in that situation and trying desperately to hold onto what you'd spent years building is a realistic reaction. I've seen people get canceled and their lives ruined over less. He did do screwed up things, and he should not have done them. He definitely has a lot of growing to do and hopefully he can learn from this if he's going to continue being a content creator.
But I think it's really presumptuous to listen to someone's feelings/motivations and just go "no, you're wrong". Or to listen to someone's apology and go "no, that wasn't sincere enough. You didn't apologize hard enough. Do it again," when maybe they really did pour their feelings into that. I'm not a stan, never was, and I lost some respect for him when I realized he did cheat. But I don't think random people get to decide whether or not someone was being genuine or not about their feelings. Like, sometimes you KNOW, but not liking someone isn't somehow you KNOW that. Like, imagine your biggest mistake, your biggest screw up, that you did because you were scared or stupid or mean or whatever. And when you went to apologize, sincerely, they just told you "No, you're lying. You're not sorry. Do it again, or go screw yourself." Like, it's just f-ed up.
That being said, he did cheat in the end. So yeah, banning him from the speedrunning leaderboard for a while or whatever would be a decent punishment. I'm not into speedrunning so I don't know the protocol for situations like that. And before anyone calls me a stan or a simp or whatever, is it really so wrong to want to give someone the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were telling the truth about *their* emotions? Is it so wrong to try to be considerate that maybe they did just screw up really badly and aren't an awful person? I like to live by the belief that "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and in that situation, I don't know if I would've reacted much better, so I'm not going to throw any stones. Especially when he already apologized. There's no way to know he wasn't being genuine, and if he really was, then he's already learned his lesson. There's no reason to keep kicking the dead horse.

Dream's response video was very manipulative, he spent a lot of time talking about how badly the mods messed, and how he had no reason to cheat as a TH-camr.
He abused his following and had his stans send large amounts of hate to people who argued against him. Even now that he finally did admit he was cheating, he had the nerve to say it was accidental, rather than apologizing to the mods or to the 100s of legitimate speedrunners he disregarded when he uploaded his run to a competetive speedrunning website.

The problem isn't the cheating as itself. It's the way dream weaponized his community that sent death threats to the speed run moderators, harassed anyone who dared to give a negative opinion of him, going as far as making reaction livestream filled with bad faith and lies against the videos treating the subject that weren't supporting his side, in the hope the TH-camrs that made it would be harassed by his fans. One could argue that he doesn't control his community, I would answer that in his way of treating the drama, he deliberately used it in his advantage.
EDIT : if I can add something : He didn't "just recently realized he was cheating" in my opinion. In which world do you deny fully accusations that claims your game could be modded IN THE EXACT SAME WAY a mod you are actually using for another purpose is doing? Wouldn't the most logical reaction be "Wait, did I forget to remove the mod from my files when I started recording this speedrun ??".

Because there is different things you can do in Minecraft. Building, mining, survival, making a city, pvp, and hundreds of more stuff you can do. Calling Dream a god of Minecraft is just a cheap and one sided way to see, not just him, but Minecraft as a whole. It honestly makes me mad everytime people say this or talk about him in a positive light. All he is, is a Minecraft TH-camr. That's it. I refuse to watch his channel and I'll never watch it. Sorry if this makes people mad. I just really wanted to get this off my chest.

It’s definitely Dream who’s in the wrong here. The speedrun site moderators were just doing their jobs, and while maybe they chose to watch the run specifically because he’s so big, that doesn’t excuse Dream.
Dream’s a pretty smart guy. I frankly don’t believe that he didn’t even consider that he had a mod installed, even when he knew that that mod did exactly what he was accused of doing. The fact that he deleted his mod folder makes him even more suspicious.
Regardless, it was very dumb of him to place all the blame on the speedrun site mods. He should know by now how obsessive his fanbase is as a whole, and how aggressive they can be (and were) to anyone who dares contradict their idol. If he truly couldn’t predict that all the doxxing and suicide encouragement would happen, he’s either too out-of-touch or too irresponsible to handle a following so huge and predatory.

Doesn’t matter if you don’t speed run for a profession you still submitted a speed run where you blatantly cheated, and when the mods naturally called dream out on it and perfectly reasonably posted their reasoning for why they denied your speed run (with evidence) dream decided to directly attack the mods in a condescending and overall straight up bitchy manner, which caused his toxic stans to attack the mods constantly, and dream knew he had cheated even if he claims he suddenly discovered, he still waited a long time to tell people, so the mods just got relentlessly threatened and attacked, and of course his fan base ate his bullshit up. I’m gonna be honest and maybe attacked for this but I feel like Dream is really at fault. Not even just because, simply, he did end up cheating, but the way he handled this and other dramas and situations. What he constantly does is the instant he is attacked, send out some hateful message egging his army of stans on to attack. I was scrolling through the Twitter replies to dreams apology and one of the moderators who made the document was there and he said (I’m paraphrasing you can look yourself if you would like proof): How can you just apologize away months of being attacked on Twitter and sent literal death threats to me and my family. Now that is pretty fricked up that Dream could let his community go as far as to SEND DEATH THREATS TO THE OPPOSING SIDE. So to me, Dream is in the wrong because he was in fact cheating, mishandled his initial public reaction, and in doing so and victimizing himself, gave permission to his army of young, misguided kids to send death threats to some moderators who we can now prove did nothing wrong.
