I have 3 x bolts, Ab3 and an old Abolt. None are picky with ammo feed great, well manufactured and most importantly fill the freezer. You won’t go wrong with an xbolt/Leupold combo.:)
Can’t go wrong with the Browning rifle & Leupold scope combo! I bought myself a Browning X-bolt Hunter chambered in .243 & absolutely love it! Just a perfect little rifle for the type of hunting I do & very accurate
I just bought a Browning rifle. A Xbolt Speed Long Range 280 ackley improve. Has a 1@8 twist 26-inch barrel. Its still in the box. Waiting for my Leupold VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA scope to come in. This is my first Browning rifle, also.
Nice looking set up, Shane. I have been a Browning fan for many years. They have never let me down bagging numerous animals since 1988 when i bought my first. Best of luck this fall. Shoot straight & Shoot safe 👍
I'm a Browning guy myself. I can't believe the price of that baby though, expensive! But I guess its been years since I've bought a new gun. I'll be tuning in this fall for sure. My fave vid of yours is your first bull elk with your sister!
Thanks so much for watching Kevin! Admittedly, I had a hard time hitting the 'checkout' when I bought it, but I forgot all about the price when I opened that box!
Nice, I did the same thing replacing a tikka t3x .308 with a browning x bolt speed Long range in a .300 win mag with a Leopold scope. Got the VX-5HD, obsessed with it. It’s such a good looking gun.
@@rainsong7327the x bolt trigger is very clean, I would compare it to more of a button. Tikka trigger is great. I just ordered the spr version in 6.5 prc, i have about 10 browning guns, you can't go wrong with browning, the 3 lug bolt, the safety features of the unlock bolt button, grip of the stalks, and always accurate. My only gun that I like as much but twice the cost is my kimber mtn ascent, simply because of the weight and retains the accuracy.
Amazing guns! Thanks so much for watching! Those Kimbers might make their way onto the Shane Hunts channel someday to check out. Beautiful guns! Thanks again for watching!
Awesome! Thanks for watching! My next video might show an update on how the gun performs in a big game hunting situation... so if you haven't subscribed, don't forget to ;) thanks again!
Trivia taking up space in my head. Mark Boardman at the marketing division of Vortex (he doe the Vortex podcasts) highly favors his Browning X-bolt in .300 WSM for just about everything, including black bear. And he shoots it without a brake. So, I like the look and finish of this X-Bolt 2. Always good to refine the basics.
Had a good group on that last box of ammo, just lower your elevation on the scope and waa-lah!!! Thanks for the video Shane, just getting ready to get my own X-bolt 2 speed. Appreciate the testing!
I hope u ran a box through it and cleaned it several times i got the same gun in 7mmprc and it wouldn't group until it was broken in now it shoots half moa good luck
Literally just commented this yesterday! Absolutely- that's what it took. A little bit of breaking in and now we are shooting 5/8" groups with the right ammo. Well good enough for me for the shooter I am! Thanks for watching Matt!
Thanks so much for watching and for the comment! You're awesome! And I actually have the Tikka T3, but I might have to pick up a T3X as well! If so, for sure I'll do up a comparison video. Thanks again, take care!
My first rifle was an xbolt speed Hells Canyon in 30-06 shoots tight groups with federal premium ammo. Great value for the money. It's build quality is comparible to the highend semi custom 7 prc rifle that I bought this year, those browning actions ARE BUTTER. How were the turrets on your Leupold? I bought one for my prc because of the light weight but was a little unimpressed by how mushy the dials felt. The scope glass is great and can't find much out there in a comparible weight.
Thanks for watching Rusty! Agreed- I was just mentioning in an earlier comment that I finally found awesome ammo that my gun likes- Federal! Turrets on my Freedom are pretty good, I have no complaints! Glass has been great as well, but you can definitely feel the difference as far as reticle and 'crisp' turrets on my VX-3i. Still though- for the money- really really impressed. Thanks again for watching!
Looks like a decent gun. Bought a browning medallion a bolt in 1989 in 30-06 and will only leave my position in my will. Thousands of lbs of meat since that time. There's not a dam thing wrong with 2 inch groups at 100 meter and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's a lot of money but if it makes you happy then the cost is irrelevant. Have a great day.
Hello from (Maine North Woods Hunter) we share the same name. I am thinking about purchasing that rifle as well in either 7 PRC or 300 WSM. How is the trigger on the rifle? Is there anything that you do not like about the rifle? Looking forward to more of your videos.
Hi, Shane! Subbed to your channel! Thanks for watching. I really like the trigger- I find it very consistent. I'll say that in my older Tikka T3, the trigger is a tiny bit lighter (I think it was adjustable from 1.5LBS-4LBS, which I liked a bit more). It was a bit of a change to get the factory 3.5 trigger weight in the Browning. I know it's adjustable down to 3LBS (I think), and so I'll probably end up adjusting a bit. And then, my second gripe is the smoothness of the bolt- it's nice and smooth, but when compared to my Tikka: Tikka wins all day. Like I said- still smooth, just not as smooth in comparison. Maybe something that will come once it's worked in a bit more? Hard to say. That said- those are the only two things. I have plenty more positives about the gun thus far- I shot a 5/8" group this past weekend, I didn't know how a gun could 'fit' until I started shooting this one, and despite the lightweight-ness of this rifle, it kicks even less than my 8-ish pound Tikka. Really happy and would recommend checking one out. Thanks again for watching!
YOU NEED TO USE SOME LOCTITE (THREAD LOCK) WHEN YOU MOUNT THE BASES TO THE RECEIVER. IT WILL KEEP YOUR BASES AND YOUR SCOPE LOCKED INTO THE CORRECT POSITION.
For Shane and Atomix, did your dealers tell you when it was shipping out or give you an ETA? What they told me for what I ordered was that it would be ready in November 25
Hi Paul! I knew you had commented somewhere else and I couldn't find it- I had to go looking but glad I found it! I ordered mine in 2024 and the shipping took about a month to get to my house. I know that they had limited calibres available at that time because they were selling quite quickly (but as you know- .308s are the best calibre hehe). It could be that they have risen so much in popularity that people are having a hard time keeping them in stock? Hopefully you get your rifle a bit earlier! Thanks again for watching!
@ how do i get ahold of you offline to discuss your story and your hunting stuff? You and I are similar im age and would be cool to connect. I just won a group bet today so it looks like my recent rifle purchase is free now! Haha
Put match grade ammo through it and check out the groups it can shoot. Coming from owner of a few of these rifles, not saying to hunt with match ammo, but on paper mine were amazing shooters.
Thanks for watching Donnie! I really do think I can put together a better group with the Core Lokt ammo. I did put a .80" group together the weekend before with the 180 grain Core Lokts. I'm interested to try the match ammo as well- but certainly I'll be trying again soon to see what kind of group I can get. Thanks again for watching!
Beautiful rifle. Does it shoot? I appreciate browning doing this feature/customization in a rifle but Savage has been doing this “out of the box” customization for any new shooter in a “high country” edition and that’s been almost 4 years ago. Off the shelf ready to hunt. Yes, this is a lighter model than a savage high country edition depending on caliber, imo. Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much for watching! I think it's still learning to shoot ;) I have faith. Shooter could use some more practice too. Thanks again for watching!
I’m having such a hard time choosing between a tikka roughtech and the browning x bolt speed 2 both have fluted bolts barrels In 308 I feel like the bolt and the trigger on the tikka better but the metal trigger guard which one would do you prefer your tikka or browning?
For what it's worth, I have had my Tikka for much longer than my Browning. I really really love them both. They are beautiful and each have their pros and cons. That said, I'm still getting used to my Browning and am still trying to find an ammo it really likes. I did the same for my Tikka, then I found the ammo it likes. And now it shoots unreal and it's also beautiful. I love my Tikka T3 and think it's going to be hard to de-throne that rifle! But on the same token- the Browning is really awesome and I love it too. Tikka would be my pick, but it would be based ONLY on my time spent with that rifle and the sentimentality of what we have been through together! Congrats on whatever you choose- both amazing companies that make quality firearms!
***HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT FULL SNEAK MOUNT?*** got me a nice one this weekend and showed the taxidermist yours. I’m starting to worry about it though. I’m afraid I’ll regret it, yours is fire though.
That's so awesome John! Congrats on your buck! I think the full sneak is a classic and it looks really awesome! Thanks so much for watching, and congrats again on your buck!
Okay like sick gun but maybe put a vx3 on it and not the cheapest Leuphold option. Not even hating on the scope I have two of them but that’s not the gun for that scope. It will preform better if give it the right tools.
Hahah thanks for watching Austin! Not to worry- I found an ammo that works even with this Leupold option. Will post a video at some point to show. Thanks again, hope to see you back soon!
Just wondering what happened to the T3 in .308 that you sold all your other guns for? Seems like the older Tikka was shooting better groups than this X-Bolt2? I recently bought the Tikka T3X (waiting period here in Illinois). I was looking at the X-Bolt2 as currently have an A-bolt in 270WSM. I wasn’t about to buy a gun without holding it first. After seeing your groups with these different factory ammo vs the Tikka. I’m glad I made the decision I did. I’m not a great shooter either. So I’ll have to see what the Tikka T3X does
Thanks so much for watching Phil! Illinois! Land of the giants. And yes, I'm a sold Tikka fan for absolute sure. I'll never sell my Tikka T3- someone is going to have to pry that from my cold dead heads! You will certainly see me out with that gun during whitetail season. All of that that said, and to be totally fair: my Tikka has a 4.5-14 scope and this one has a 3-9 scope. And I sighted my Tikka in at 100 yards vs my Browning at 100m. So that did contribute to some groupings that certainly could have been tighter. Plus my second time shooting the Browning in this video versus my 1000th time with my Tikka. Plus still trying to find the 'right ammo', but I did hit a 0.80 group on my first shoot the weekend before! So lots of factors playing into why I might not be getting those 0.5 inch groups... Yet. :) thanks again for watching Phil!
Hey Kyle! Thanks for your comment! You bet. It was 100% the ammo I was shooting. I did put a tiny tidbit in the video that I found an ammo that groups well right before my second range visit, but then I actually found an ammo that shoots even better. I was hitting 0.5" groups with Barnes TSX 165 grain bullets. And I also just broke it in with my biggest bull elk about a month ago! Thanks again for watching!
@shanehunts thanks for the fast reply. Those norma white tail shoot incredibly well out of my savage hunter 110. I'm picking this gun up in 300 prc tomorrow, I'll keep that brand in mind even though different caliber
I noticed something very profound. Please let us know if you adjusted your scope AFTER you first mounted it. When you were at your table doing the unboxing, your scope was mounted in a certain position. When you were at the range, it was moved forward all the way to where it appears the rear ring is abutting the rear of the tube (which appears to be every bit of an inch difference from when it was first mounted). If you DID NOT reposition your scope to that position, it is loose and is jumping with the recoil. As such, your rifle will never shoot well. If you did put in in the position it is in as seen while you are at the range, and you triple checked the torque on action screws and all scope screws, the rifle may not have the ammo it likes yet, or it may need more rounds through it to settle the barrel, or it just may not be a shooter. My hope is your scope is loose and you did NOT reposition it. That alone would explain a lot Just a strong recommendation: any time you get a new rifle, always clean the barrel thoroughly, then the chamber, and lube the back of your bolt recoil lugs PRIOR to shooting.
You've got a great eye, Derek! You bet- I did adjust the scope before heading to the range just to customize the feel a bit more to myself, personally. At the time this video was posted, I just hadn't found the right ammo yet. I'll post a follow up video/review after this season (probably into next year) about my experience with the gun after taking it through a hunting season, but I can confirm with you now that this gun is a shooter. I tried out 165 grain Federal Premium Barnes TSX and gave them a test shoot- they put together a 5/8 group at 100 yards. Super happy and impressed with this rifle and definitely more excited now that I found the right ammo. Thanks again for watching so thoroughly! Best of luck to you this season, hope to see you back soon!
I am between purchasing this Browning xbolt or a Bergara, can someone help me in my choice please?!🙏🏻 This will be my first own rifle, that's why I want to buy the best one, I hope you can help me, thank you!
Thanks for watching! The brake comes factory on the X Bolt 2 Speed. It looks sharp, but if I had an option, I probably would have gone without the brake as well! Thanks again for watching!
Hi! For sure. Great question. I'll give you my non-professional/non-TH-cam Guru advice: it is not overly difficult to do, but I would say if you have any reservations or worries around doing it, I would bring it in to a gunsmith to do. It's a quick trip that can save you a lot of headaches down the road. Full disclosure, I did some tinkering around with this rifle after (which is not in the video) to ensure that the scope was fitted well to me. And then I actually brought it in to a great gunsmith to make sure everything was operating properly. If you decide to do it yourself, you should review your gun's/scopes manuals, but you'll have to use a torque screwdriver when tightening the scope screws (both to the barrel and the screws connecting the scope rings). You can find most manuals online which tell you what torque your screws should be tightened to. And make sure you use the right screws when installing. I learned from experience that there are two lengths of screws in the appropriate sized rings when you buy them- 1) the length which attaches the rings to the rifle, and then 2) another length which attaches the top scope ring to the bottom scope ring. The screws which attach the rings together are longer, and I ended up putting the longer screws through the base... Straight into the gun. Don't recommend. 😅 And then you'll need your levels or levelling kit. I think overall, a quick trip to a certified pro in this field can save you an annoyance during hunting season- or worse... A missed big buck. To me it is worth having a professional oversee the installation to make sure there is no guesswork involved. Hope this is helpful, thanks again for watching!
You've got a good rifle! That's awesome Justin! Could be a little bit of shooter error here- I put a disclaimer in the end- my shooting may use some work :) thanks for watching!
I have 3 x bolts, Ab3 and an old Abolt. None are picky with ammo feed great, well manufactured and most importantly fill the freezer. You won’t go wrong with an xbolt/Leupold combo.:)
Happy to hear that! Really excited and looking forward to the fall! Thanks so much for watching!

That sounds like a beautiful setup! Excited for you! Congrats on the new rifle and thanks again for watching! Hope to see you back soon
Finally, someone reviews it! Yay 🎉
Thanks so much for watching Joel!
Nice looking set up, Shane. I have been a Browning fan for many years. They have never let me down bagging numerous animals since 1988 when i bought my first. Best of luck this fall. Shoot straight & Shoot safe 👍

Have had 5 x bolts own 3 right now I will not buy anything else they all are extremely accurate u made an excellent choice
I’ve had much better luck with the 150-168 grain loads. 180s are almost not needed for a .308. Maybe some match loadings
Thanks for watching Samuel! This gun definitely likes the 165s. Take care!

Barnes TSX, Berger hunter hybrid have worked for me. The monolithic copper? Chef’s kiss
The Barnes TSX is actually on deck to try next! Thanks for the recommendations and the tips! Hope to see you back soon!

That's a sexy bolt action.
It's absolutely beautiful. Video to come soon- it helped bring an elk home this fall!
That alone would explain a lot
Just a strong recommendation: any time you get a new rifle, always clean the barrel thoroughly, then the chamber, and lube the back of your bolt recoil lugs PRIOR to shooting.
I can’t make up my mind of the caliber I want
.308. ;) thanks for watching!
@ 308 is the one I’m leaning towards
I am between purchasing this Browning xbolt or a Bergara, can someone help me in my choice please?!🙏🏻
This will be my first own rifle, that's why I want to buy the best one, I hope you can help me, thank you!
Tikka
La pregunta es, tiene garantía sub-moa?
No se! Thank you for watching!
What size barrel is this
This is the 22" barrel on the .308! Thank you for watching!
Noice
Jayrom back and one of the first comments, as usual! Thanks again for your support!
Did anyone notice that the guy in the back has the same rifle
Thanks for watching!
The same gun is in the background at the range
Thanks for watching!
A 308 with a brake? Why
Thanks for watching! The brake comes factory on the X Bolt 2 Speed. It looks sharp, but if I had an option, I probably would have gone without the brake as well! Thanks again for watching!
How difficult is it to mount a scope like that? TH-cam gurus made it seem like you need to be an engineer.. leveling and such.
Hi!
You need to take off your shirt…..
Thanks for watching Eric!
That groups bad my savage 110 groups 0.5 inch at 100yrds
You've got a good rifle! That's awesome Justin! Could be a little bit of shooter error here- I put a disclaimer in the end- my shooting may use some work :) thanks for watching!
