    from the man behind the changes: "I'm not a lawyer, never wanted to be a lawyer, and never will be a lawyer". How is this a good thing?

    This change works so much better for me as a mature student, less hassle. I know I can do it, but the thought of doing a gdl, lpc as well as securing a TC is daunting when your 25+

      This is very unfair for people who have studied the LLB, students like you should never be allowed to become a solicitor or saturated the legal job market .....

    What a great video. I had so many questions about how the SQE would work in practice and it was such a relief to see that you'd made a video on it! I can always count on your channel to provide all the relevant information and give a realistic perspective. Big thank you to both you and Crispin!

    Firstly thank you so much for organising this and your questions and Crispin for his time. I am a current trainee and wonder how any training in the future might work but I think it will put such a burden on the firms to train trainees during the work placement and there may be a huge difference between quality of NQ solicitors between firms. To me the LPC was invaluable in teaching skills and knowledge that meant I hit the ground running in the working environment. Future SQE self taught students vs online course students vs face to face course students may provide for different levels of ability and firms may find they have to provide more in-depth tailored training. Food for thought.. will be interesting to see what happens.

    Good to hear there is another route to qualify, passing the LPC with a commendation and being unable to secure a training contract forced me to go back to my previous profession, but I still wanted an opportunity to qualify, this new system at least provides a much broader opportunity to do so rather than the bottleneck that the rigid training contract represented to me and 1000's of others.

      The SQE will create a large surplus of inadequately trained trainees. The law profession needs to be competitive, that’s how good lawyers are made.

    • @marlyb176
      @marlyb176 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anasahmadzai6480 Not necessarily. Because if one gets two years qualifying experience at a law firm where they are exposed to the legal profession and they do well in that experience, it doesn’t mean that they will not be adequate. And when you think about it it would still be very competitive because if there are surplus of people choosing that method that means that Law firms will have to choose those that they think are best out of that number

    Such an informative video! Thanks so much Chrissie and Crispin. I'm interested to see what unfolds over the next few years as the SQE gets nearer and more firms release details of how their TCs/sponsorship offers will adapt to the new cohort of non-law/non-GDL newbies. I'm definitely quite excited for the change, even though I share your concern/curiosity as to how aspiring solicitors may be affected at the NQ level. Always great content from you, Chrissie. This is a step in the right direction. I have always preferred the meritocratic process of the US whereby one qualifies as an attorney with the Bar exam, however the requirement for two years of qualifying work experience is still a bottleneck. I have worked with lawyers and trained lawyers in derivatives negotiations for years however I never managed to secure a training contract in my earlier days and I have been in legal career purgatory ever since. So my question is will my many prior years of work experience qualify me as a solicitor if I take and pass the SQE or does the clock start from the date the SQE has been passed or started?

    • @LawandBroader
      @LawandBroader  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, QWE can be retrospective so if you have already completed 2 years or more, plus hold an undergraduate degree, you can take the SQE exams straight away and qualify. I would advise a prep course in advance though

    • @LawandBroader
      @LawandBroader  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that there are no concessions. So it doesn’t matter what other exams you have taken even or what grades you have got in other courses, everybody has to do the SQE from scratch and is assessed equally. I think that’s what your asking!

    • @LawandBroader
      @LawandBroader  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SQE1 is 11 hours over 2 days and SQE2 will be spread across several days. There are optional prep courses which vary in length depending on how much prior knowledge/experience you have

    • @LawandBroader
      @LawandBroader  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will still need a to secure qualifying work experience or a TC even after the SQE comes in so firms will still look at grades but there will be more choice for where to train and not all legal businesses will be as fussed about grades.
