Only difference, they could went to Tatum & Haliburton to see if either of them had a hot hand. They definitely could have had a bigger rotation all the other games though. Thank you! Tatum’s previous accolades mean nothing if he can’t go out on the court, today, and be efficient. He has been inefficient for months now, not a few games like Curry or Embiid. It’s telling that he’s the face of his Celtics team and neither won ECF MVP nor NBA Finals MVP. He still hasn’t totally dispelled the reputation of him being a guy who shrinks when the lights get too bright (aka, not a clutch player). I truly don’t think his DNPs were personal and that this topic is being blown way out of proportion. I do hope whatever is going on with him resolves itself because, despite that, he’s still a talented player.

    • @leandreballew2566

      Exactly. Hes also primarily an iso player and a solid rebounder but not a better rebounder than Bam, AD, Embid..Jrue Holiday has more IQ, a little better defensively and Tatum ain’t grabbing minutes over Bron and KD. Tatum needs to catch rhythm, he’s not as pure of a scorer like Booker or Curry..doesn’t slash or move without the ball. He never got in and made immediate impact like Anthony Edward’s or even Derrick White!

    • @temporalsoliton
      @temporalsoliton หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The team was also selected in April and they didn't see Tatum until July so the coaches probably expected something different (a player more confidence in his shot) so I think Melo is speaking from a players perspective and not an objective one. The timeline is too compressed to think they could pull off this avengers 3 week prep thing and still win gold every time. Single game elimination system means any team with chemistry that can get hot can upset in the knockout rounds with NBA level talent.

He wasn't playing good enough and it's 1-game elimination. If Tatum did cause them to lose, one thing y'all would not do is hold him accountable. Folks would blame the coach Lebronz you name it.

    Carmelo’s perspective on Jayson Tatum’s role in Team USA seems to miss some aspects of how team dynamics work at the international level.
    First, the notion that Tatum wasn’t communicated with properly assumes that every player must have absolute clarity about their minutes and role from the outset. In reality, international competitions often involve fluid rotations, and roles are determined based on in-game performance and team needs, not pre-ordained depth charts. Tatum’s struggle to find his place on the team may have more to do with his ability to adapt to changing roles, something that Booker excelled at.
    Second, Carmelo implies that Tatum was unfairly pushed aside despite being a key player. However, top players in any team must compete for their minutes, and just because Tatum has a strong resume doesn't guarantee him a set role. It’s on the player to adjust and make the most of limited opportunities. Blaming coaching for Tatum's struggles feels misplaced when other stars, like Booker, were able to thrive in similar circumstances.
    Lastly, Carmelo seems to downplay the importance of team balance and chemistry. Having multiple superstars means that not everyone will get the same level of spotlight. Tatum, like any other player, needs to accept that international basketball isn't about individual accolades but about the collective effort to win, which sometimes means stepping back for the greater good.

  • @jaydubb2005
    @jaydubb2005 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Maybe the coaching staff knew that if they played Tatum that they would have a higher percentage of losing. I mean, Team USA barely won those games. Thanks to Curry for carrying them through those last 2 critical games because we all saw how Lebron was turning the ball over and disappearing in the 4th quarter. I think it's some behind the scene stuff that the public does not know. I'm thinking Tatum snapped on somebody on the coaching staff and they disciplined him for it. Either way, it was weird and unfortunate for a 2024 1st Team All Nba player and 2024 Nba Champion to get benched.

    Jayson Tatum is a great NBA player and he deserved better communication from the coaching staff. No question!
    However, from a basketball perspective, international basketball is a different style of game and his elite NBA skills don't yield the same results. The analogy is like Neymar playing in the English Premier League. He's a great player just not within that style/type of game. It doesn't diminish his greatness. It just provides an opportunity to grow.

Those were 1A, 1B, 1C if you'd like and one of them came off the bench for 99% of the Olympics. The other spots were a defensive Guard to play POA defense, the 5 and a Glue guy, Booker bought in , JT didn't, Booker adjusted, JT struggled to, Booker made his shots whether he got 2 shots or 10 shots,JT unfortunately had been in a slump and lastly when the players voted who was the best 8 guys got votes none were JT. That's not me looking at JT and saying he's a terrible player cause he isn't he's a champion and a no.1 option on the Celtics just not on that 2024 Olympics squad and in 2028 he'll have that role.
