You can,I've got 30 banana trees in zone 5 Midwest. You just chop them down at 3 ft. at first frost,dig them up,put them in a small pot,and keep them in your cellar or basement,only water once every 2 months. In early April they start growing again,bring them upstairs into better light for 1 month to encourage root regeneration,then plant directly into garden after May 5th. Or build a large heated greenhouse lol... Take 2 years to get 🍌 bananas

Depends on the soil type. In Assam we don't need fertilizer.
