    Minotaurs are definitely a welcome addition, as long as they’re rarer than they are in Oblivion. I’m not sure why most of the fantasy creatures never made it in to Skyrim. They’re one of the more intelligent and interesting ones. There’s lore that suggests minotaurs like to hang around sacred Imperial sites because it gives them the sense of purpose and glory that they lost when the proto-Alessians drove them out of the Empire, I can’t imagine they have much of that in Skyrim.

      Minotaurs are generally a race that likes mountains and hills - hence their name, Men-of-Tor (People of the Hill, either hillsides in general or specifically that which later became Sancre Tor). As a result, ESO shows them hanging around where they are in Cyrodiil, as well as around the Colovian Mountains by the Golden Coast, the Jerall Mountains south of Falkreath, and the Wrothgarian Mountains around the Reach and the valleys of Wrothgar (Orsinium).

    Y'know, when it comes to history, I'm always surprised people do realize THINGS CHANGE. A thousand years after ESO comes TES5, so some of those historically accurate places wouldn't really be there. Or they'd be paved over. Or, like in the case of Ivarstead and a few other towns, they're built around centralized locations, usually on top of the ancestors. Go back a thousand years in England and see how much has changed. Unless it's built of stone, and kept up in repairs, chances are it's gone. Two hundred years between Oblivion and Skyrim is a lesser gap, but time takes a toll. Towns live and die, forgotten in the wind, and I'd imagine it's worse in a world where people can set things on fire with their hands.

    • @lordmaniac9775
      @lordmaniac9775 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      The English mined stone from ancient abandoned castles until there were nothing left , to get materials to construct new buildings. Same with the Germans, Italians, French, Spanish, Portugese, etc. Hell, people today break down relatively old and abandoned building to recycle the material and construct new builsing on the lot. Then there are building not made out of stone, for instance wood, which would literally rot away due to lack of maintenance. What were precieved as cities back in the day eventually became abandoned and crubled, either due to natural disaster, epidemics, war, famine or just declining economics. Hell, we see Ivarstead declining in population, with young people from Ivarstead moving to Riften. People believe that if we abandoned the Golden Gate bridge in San Fransisco, after 100 years the metal used to build the bridge would corrode, crumble and collapse. There may be remains, but it's right above the sea. anything else that may remain may be scavenged and recycled by humans.
      There are exceptions, like buildings built to withstand most things, people preserving the building as a monument, and building constructed in present-day remote friggid and airid places tend to last longer.
      People like to think humans are good at preserving our old constructions, but we're not.
      Also, Bethesda retconns lore. Deal with it. Don't like it, don't buy the games.
      ALSO, ESO was released after Skyrim, why are we tailoring skyrim to fit ESO's repeatedly retconned lore instead of the other way around?

    • @thetimesword8092
      @thetimesword8092 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@lordmaniac9775 You wrote a lot for a reply to a ten month old comment, especially when most the sentiment you stated was already in my original paragraph. Regardless, "don't like it, don't watch/buy" has always been such a stupid response perpetrated by those without rationale. If you like something, such as enjoying TES games, you have the right to criticize it. Complaints are valid, and gatekeeping those who do complain is how you kill a fanbase, as people grow tired of incessant fanboys claiming righteous indignation over genuine criticism. There's flaws in everything, including life, and what will you tell those who criticize their lives? Don't like it, stop living? The absurdity of it is enough to rise a chuckle out of me.

    • @lordmaniac9775
      @lordmaniac9775 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@thetimesword8092 , don't get me wrong, its OK to criticize something from your hobby (eg. a videogame), maybe whoever is part of the thing (in this case Zenimax/bethesda) and take the criticism and use it to improve their next project. I wouldn't exactly call myself a fanboy, but some people treat Skyrim like the worst TES game. Even worse than ESO, even worse than Legends, somehow even worse than Blades. They act as if the game is unplayabe without mods (though with USLEP/USSEP thats true to some degree) or that Bethesda simplified the series for new fans, or stripped back features to make development easier or unesseccarily retconned lore (though they do that sometimes).
      I don't have any problems with people modding Skyrim to be more immersive or to be more lore friendly, or to add Thomas the Tank Engine into the game or adding Macho Man Randy Savage into the game, or installing Sex Lab into their game. it's THEIR game, they're free to do so. But people will make their games "lore friendly" by adding shit from Morrowind or Oblivion, because they're nostalgic for those games, with no real respect to the actual lore.
      I like the work behind Skywind and Skyblivion, I see it as real effort and passion put into remaking classic games, I also like the Beyond Skyrim series where they give you the option to return to a former province in Skyrim's time with speculative quests and events, but more respectful to the lore. I also don't mind people just adding stuff from Morrowind and Oblivion because they like the games and want to see stuff from those games return in Skyrim, but they don't have to act so smug about it and disguise it as "fixing Skyrim's unfaitful lore". You want respectul lore or whatever? Read a book or someting. TES gameplay will always be different from the lore.
      Tough, you also got the opposite end of the spectrum who would defend basegame skyrim with their lives and abhorr adding gameplay changing mods into the game. I think both groups are stupid.

    I have a concern about the locations. Throughout world history, when a site has been abandoned, people have taken the resources from it. Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was dismantled to make forts during the Muslim invasion of North Africa, and those forts were dismantled after the capture of Jerusalem by European crusaders to make their own forts. Things become buried quickly as soil compresses and dust covers them. Pathways from 50 years ago maybe feet underground if the soil is soft. While I love the idea of this location mods, it would be absurd if most of these things still stood

      Not really. Skyrim's development was notoriously rushed due to its 11/11/11 release date, and it's clear that there were a lot of things that were planned that Bethesda didn't have time to fully flesh out (some of the guild questlines and the Civil War come to mind).
      That, and game design is by nature a matter of compromise. Skyrim came out five years after Oblivion, and it makes sense that Bethesda would have wanted to focus on giving us a lot of new things instead of painstakingly recreating every detail from previous games. If they'd focused heavily on the latter, odds are that other, ultimately more important, aspects of the game would have suffered.

    This a pretty nice list but there's a lot more mods that HB didn't mention, so here's a list of stuff that goes well with it for anyone who might want more:
    --Legendary Cities - Adds some of the cities from Arena that didn't show up in Skyrim (some of them I believe were even in ESO) + ThirteenOrange's Laintar Dale, Oakwood and Amber Guard - adds 3 more cities that LC does not yet have(the author also made a Granite Hall mod, which LC also adds, so you can pick which one you prefer.
    --TES Legends Imports - Similar to ESO Imports adds a bunch of stuff from TES: Legends. Most of it is pretty inconsequential NPCs that add nice ambience, but there's also a few references to the actual Legends MQ and a few landmarks and stuff
    --Project ja-Kha'jay- Khajiit Diversity Overhaul - This one might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a replacer for all of the named Khajiit in the vanilla game that replaces some of the NPCs with a bunch of new races from khajiit lore such as Ohmes and Ohmes-Rat featured in Arena and Daggerfall, or the ones from Morrowind, or several other ones seen in ESO and lore, essentially making the Khajiit NPC list as diverse as Khajiits are in lore. Also keeps some of the NPCs as the Khajiit type seen in Skyrim, but simply gives them more unique and HD faces.
    --Mihail's Sea Giants and Snowrays - Two different mods by famous monster mod author Mihail that add two different creatures from the games TES: Travels Dawnstar and Travels: Shadowkey (two old mobile spinoff set in Skyrim). These new creatures are added to specific locations, so you don't need to worry about suddenly having them show up in the leveled lists, and are integrated very well
    --Racial Body Morphs (or any other mod with a similar effect) - Gives each race it's own default height and weight, something that was present in previous games but that Skyrim did away with, for some reason, adding more visual diversity to NPCs. It also goes well with Project JKJ since that mod as it's own height differences for the different Khajiit types.

    Fantastic video and editing!
    But, if i can give my two cents:
    -the Oblivion gates could've easily been removed during the time span between Oblivion and Skyrim. So, while the mod is indeed immersive, i don't think it's really lore breaking to not have it.
    -the Dark Anchors do not leave the "metal" parts on the ground while disappearing in ESO, so only the Dolmen itself should really remain, and after a thousand years, they could easily be buried or destroyed completely.
    -while it would make sense to have Clannfears, Scamps and Daedroths as summonable creatures, it wouldn't really make sense for them to be roaming the land without being bound to a summoner, considering the Oblivion Crysis is long gone by Skyrim events. Scattered ones would've probably been killed in that time span, either by Men/Mer or by other wild creatures.
    -to Old Windhelm applies the same logic as Oblivion gates, the ruins of the city could've easily been removed, but the Barrow entrance is a nice addition.
    -isn't Karstaag a ghost in Elder Scrolls V? cause he's been killed by the Nerevarine in Elder Scrolls III. So him having a physical body doesn't make sense.
    All of the other mods are pretty nice. I especially liked the way ESO handled fast travel, so wayshrines are a really nice addition, Morrowind creatures too, even Minotaurs i'd say.

    I strongly disagree with the ESO additions. It has been some time since I was actively into the Elder Scrolls lore so the exact dates I don't remember, but I do know that ESO takes place 2 Era's before Skyrim. I'm gonna give a rough guess of 2000 years ago. Those ruins would have been long gone, either because nature has reclaimed them completely, like that old windhelm wood does not last that long, it would have rotted away completely by this point. Or the people who live nearby would have cleared the rubble. With ca 2000 years time, there probably wouldn't be much left from the ESO ruins. Most would have been cleared either because it ruins the view, or because it's free material to use. Now Oblivion takes place about 200 years ago. Again, plenty of time to remove the rubble from their cities if they wanted to. But it's much more believable to me that they haven't had time to waste to take care of the gates unlike the anchors.
