First of all, this boy seems genuine. The problem with the media is that they had already arrived at a particular conclusion and now they want to prove that by hook or by crook. When the boy answers correctly, no acknowledgement is given, but when he fails to answer, the reporter reacts as if he doesn't know anything. Secondly, he has already answered satisfactorily except for the English and music part. As far as English is concerned, he has scored 33 out of 50 ie 66 percent. The reporter is foolish enough to not understand that 66 percent can be scored by a poor student by following some question banks, which the student himself admitted. If you have to question, question the education system, not a genuine student whose aim was to pass and bring maximum possible marks. CBSE topper has brought 100 percent in English. That doesn't mean she would answer all the questions. It may be possible that what is easy for the reporter may be tough or silly or unimportant for the student. As far as music is concerned, he has scored 65 out of 70 in practical and 18 out of 30 in theory. You have to understand that there are certain subjects in which the student knows that good marks are given in practical even for a little effort. So what is the harm in taking that subject? In theory, getting 18 marks doesn't mean he has to know everything about music. Give a genuine student a question bank for one day and he/she can score 18/30, and not know a thing after one month.
Without doing any analysis, these media people are hell bent on proving their assumption. What about the fundamental right of the student? Article 21 of the Indian Constitution gives every citizen the right to life and personal liberty, which includes the dignity of the individual. Isn't it degrading the dignity of the individual? Fair enough, people and the media have a right to know whether the process is transparent or not. But for that, there is RTI. Furthermore, a committee could have been formed to look into any suspicious matter if there are complaints. But just to make a masala news headline, is it justified? Asking questions is not degrading his dignity, but deriving conclusions based on your assumptions is! The way people would form an opinion about him, chances are that a hardworking student may lose his confidence and self esteem. Shame on such media!
