To set the spring Let the quill go to the bottom of its travel. Put the spring back in place and wind up until the quill returns to the top. Use the multi hole spring to get the perfect tension. Hope this help give your Mom a hug from all of us.

Keith, great video as always. From what I can see in your video if you would install the handle , then use the spring tension tool, the tool would not cover the opposite screw hole and you could test the tension on the handle while adjusting the spring.

I need to paint some of my 1984 Bridgeport but not all of it. What is the best paint that will match and the best way to apply it ? It has been in a college trade school it's life in their diesel shop. Should I rebuild the head completely or what is your suggestion. The ways look good and are coated in oil. What do you think should be done to it ?

I have a set. They're like a cross between pliers and an adjustable wrench. Very nicely made... But I haven't had many opportunities to really test them yet.
Springs like that can be a pain in't arse... Like them recoil springs you get on lawnmower starters... Snapping, losing their memory n all that lot... Be prepared for nonsense with that setup being a reoccurring theme Keith...
I love the videos but not really sure about naming my tools. I think it would be great to say you are hanging out with Betty, Sally, Deb or even Buffy. But machines can be finicky like woman. I would hate it if Buffy left you high and dry just when you need her the most. One of my ATV riding friends named my ride PG (James Bond movie) and in true fashion she requires much attention, breaks down and leaves me stranded. BUT, when she's on game the ride is glorious!!!!!
had to laugh at the Sucrets tin, over here in the UK it’s always tobacco tins if you are of the correct vintage, I must have fifty of the things,with all sorts of treasures (ish) in them ! Now they don’t put stuff in tins any more what the H do the young’uns do with the odds and sods !?

Yeah, those Swiss screwdrivers are okay, but I see you also rely on the red and clear handle square shaft Craftsman screwdrivers to get'er done. They are actually my favorite, especially the wide blade short one that comes in the set. What are we gonna do now that Sears has folded it's tent? I know that many other retailers are selling Craftsman brand tools, but they won't stand behind the lifetime warranty unless you purchased it from them. This is the part of greedy capitalism that I object to. Sears was profitable, just not profitable enough for Wall street.
Craftsman stuff is all Chinese, has been for quite a while. Sears has been going down the tubes for years. Wall street didn't make them go down, it was self inflicted.

However, with all due respect, Keith, Jesus went through hell as our substitute, to deliver us from the works of the devil, the devil hates God, and all that He stands for, is it right to make a light thing of hell and the devil? I know it's all in fun and joking, but that's where the serious issue comes in, to minimize God's enemy is to give that enemy a right into that arena. In essence your inviting the enemy into that event.

I think the reason the new spring has the folded over edge is they were weak around the point of pin, common to break there.

Grunts are NOT old man noises unless you grunt when getting up from a chair or off the ground.
If the handle hub is in place , the off set will be less. The tension arm would not be in the way of screw hole.

Would it be easier to adjust the spring tension with the handle hub installed? That way the tool wouldn't be blocking the other screw hole.

I would take a 13/16 size too. You can't even pretend to use a normal one, the neck isn't long enough to get down and clean out the t-slot.

Buy a new clock spring assembly they're only $30. Assemble and tighten two full turns and you're done.
Keith looks like the spring in debbie would have to be tightened the same way the handle turns? not trying to be a smart a$$.
