- 1972 super beetle chopped top.This is a video of the steps taken and how to chop the top in the Bonneville salt flat racer style on a 1972 Volkswagen super beetle. This is only the beginning of what is to come for this bad bug! there are a lot more upgrades to come on this Volkswagen bug.
Good job bro. After I finish my Ghia I'm planing on doing a chopped rat beetle. Good chop no verbal explanation needed. Keep up the good work . I'd like to see how it turns out .

I'd like to see this done with a curved windshield SB. Laying back the windshield so it blends in with the round-top roof.
I looked at your video, and i really liked it, i am currently working on my bw too, but one thing i did not undestand and could not see very well was how to cut the back part on the back windshield área, do you have any more pics of how you did it? thanks :)

lol chill out dude ..im just helping my fellow super beetle guys out ... even top-lines kit is less expensive.. im sure when you started out with ur beetle it was for love not hatred! don't you want people to succeed ! all i want to do here is help.. if you want to be hostel..well go ahead but i think its funny :D ur the one with the issue and im going to post a vid just on how to build that kit you have so eat it :P

About how long did it take bud?
about a month , im not done with it yet , im a student so time is something i dont have a lot of , but as soon as summer rolls around i hope to finnish it.
when you chop the top does it change the size of windshields and Windows?
Tyler Maloney not when you do a bonnavile chop, it changes the angle but keeps the original version of the window frames, the side windows do have to be made because you can't cut tempered glass
so you lay back the front window?

well i never really thought about it , but you would probly want to start with the floor pan, so lift the body off after you have figured out where you want to make ur cuts since u want them to line up with the floor pan that ur going to shorten. try taking a good side veiw photo and print out a bunch of coppys, then cut out sections of the rear passngers area and try to get a good fit , doing this on papper first is the best way to help you get and idea of where u need to make ur cuts so things line up well. so probly most of the rear from the pillar infront of the rear window to about thr middle of the rear window, and maybey a good 8-12 inches ouut of the door . the middle cuase there isnt much of a radious/curve in the middle. just know once u cut the is no going back, so chek ur cuts 5 times cut once ! lol shop class tear=chers were always right about that one ...also its time consuming and u have to have confidance in ur self, itl look scary the first time u get it cut up , but keep invisioning it going back to gether, stop stand back observe what u have done and process what ur doing ! i hope that helps

How did you cut the glass?
The point of this chop is to limit the need to cut glass . The front and rear glass isn't cut, the SIDS are and there tempered which means there is no real way to cut it with out it shattering , the 4 side windows have to be custom made , I'm using lexan !

The super beetle is the ugliest beetles ever made. Fat squarish noses and the ugly side gas door. The rear taillights are hideous.
