Its a bad air solenoid. They sometimes stick open and the horn goes off. It happened on my brothers motorhome in a parking lot. All i could do was wait for the 100 gallon air tank to drain air pressure. I then cut the air lines to the air horns and plugged them off so it could be driven.
Man, of all the horns, it had to be the harsh, extremely dischordant sound of a K5HL. Just listen to those two dominant chords that are fighting one another. Brutal for the ears.
Oh people would loose their mind. Yet in quite zones they call it a tragedy when someone is hit, but they chose to build and move into the houses around the tracks then demand quiet zones.. people are strange 🤷🏻♂️
I saw a question from someone about why do u.s. Train horns stick. Not sure where that comment went.. But I think it's just so many trains out there and now so many people recording. Just a matter of numbers.
+christopher coleman yup being about 8 miles away could still hear it slightly up a hill. And I've used it as a wake up prank (the video) and it works great!
Yea, and for anyone ground level about a 5 or 6 block radius was audible. And anyone above the area slightly up small hills there was about a 5 mile range.
Southern Pacific 2467 I’m not sure. mechanical ? stuck switch? Relay stuck in closed circuit? Odd, how it seemed they kept messing with the power up and down, revving up and down engine wise for a bit. P.S. Couldn’t reply to your message not exactly sure why.
I'm not even a railroad employee but I know that there is a hatch on the floor of the cab, in there is a manual shutoff valve to disable the air for the horn! It's easy ...
+SuperWorldFan360 yea it was pretty brutal once I got there. Funny thing was hearing it miles and miles away. Suddenly it quit. I still wonder if they plugged the hose or something.
+SuperWorldFan360 yea I was glad to get out of the path. Even funnier hearing it about 8 miles away. Then suddenly it finally ended. Not sure how they finally shut the horn down
+Tri State Railfan ProductionsTM its more of a malfunction. I think The quiet zones and no horn cities are some of the worst ideas ever! People want to complain about the horn noises, then they want to complain about the accidents after they win on the noise issue. Most of the railroads around here have had housing built up around them years later. If they don't like the noise then people shouldn't move close to tracks. I've lived feet from tracks at one time.
+Tykell Truitt thanks for visiting and commenting by the way. I appreciate every time I see a new comment, hope you subscribe too :) my channel will have a variance of entertaining things to watch :)
+ElectroSTRONG Network good to know. Always have had a interest in trains, this was unique with the air blowing the sound waves around at first sounded like a car being towed with a broken horn lol.. Funny how they kept reving up and down on the engine, (hard to catch on the video as the engine was so far down the track at first)
+OneStudPuppy The reving of the engine is most likely the High Idle that locomotives will sometimes go into. It might be the engine ramping up so it can give more juice to the generator so the generator can power the Air compressor because its losing so much air so fast, they are Diesel Electrics after all! :P
They should have shut the diesel engine down and drained the air tank to stop that horn! Obviously a stuck air solenoid valve.I'm surprised that there is no shut off valve in the air line that goes to the horn!!
+Shannon Harris haha, yea I bet many along the path had the same thought. I think they tried to figure it out for a while then moved on. It's great prank audio to wake up people though! Hahaha
I can imagine hearing that for hours and hours and so on while people are trying to sleep

repeatman didn’t even think of that! Nice catch and how long did the 100 gallon tank take to empty?
That K5HL was really long. But sounded good. Also to JMAN123436, thought's horns also use a 200 Gallon Air Compressor tank.
i think its like 400+ gallons
You mean when it was made not right now right
3:42 cops don't know anything about trains. That locomotive is not having electrical issues with the lights.
That was my guessing out loud, I think the officer thought the same. and no I don't know a lot about trains. But I have liked them since I was a kid.
Oh, ok. Also, go to this site, live trains: railstream.net/live-cameras/item/chesterton-in-east-free
Looks like a great feed, Thank you!
no problem!
At The Crossing Productions I usually see freight trains on bridges with their lights dim like that.. what does it mean?
Man, of all the horns, it had to be the harsh, extremely dischordant sound of a K5HL. Just listen to those two dominant chords that are fighting one another. Brutal for the ears.
The other train passing by stopped it for a little while.
Just imagine if that happened in a quiet zone.
Oh people would loose their mind. Yet in quite zones they call it a tragedy when someone is hit, but they chose to build and move into the houses around the tracks then demand quiet zones.. people are strange 🤷🏻♂️
@@OneStudPuppy Yeah, honestly homes near active railroad tracks are for railfans. Not "average" people.
i remem er back hen i was in denison it was my 1st time seeing a train with a stuck horn pretty cool tbh
Greatest K5HL of all time right there
That engineer must be pulling his hair out rn
Will that hurt
Over that horn no one would hear them scream. 🤣😂
the train driver must of been embarrased lol
+Fun and Commentary probably and probably very frustrated too. He has to be sitting under that thing the whole time..
I wouldn't
@@OneStudPuppy why won't train horn stop
No idea, stuck electric switch for the air valve would be my guess
@@OneStudPuppy Nah, something must’ve slid/rolled into the pedal making the train horn trigger.
And 4:02 a nice horn vs a fouled horn
UP 7706 is Sick by having a stuck horn
I saw a question from someone about why do u.s. Train horns stick. Not sure where that comment went.. But I think it's just so many trains out there and now so many people recording. Just a matter of numbers.
wow that is one powerful freaking horn
+christopher coleman yup being about 8 miles away could still hear it slightly up a hill. And I've used it as a wake up prank (the video) and it works great!
OneStudPuppy o.m.g lol 😄😄😄😄
+christopher coleman I shoulda video taped the reaction, got it was classic!
OneStudPuppy I'm sure it was
I had this happen near my house a few months ago
It's Union Pacific
GE ES44AC
sucks for the residents that live around there.
Yea, and for anyone ground level about a 5 or 6 block radius was audible. And anyone above the area slightly up small hills there was about a 5 mile range.

+Benjamin Esposti lol interesting I had no clue.
Just had this happen to the neighborhood I live in. It woke nearly everyone up on our block.
Yup it’s one you never forget either. Now imagine this but with pandemic times and empty roads lol
I know y'all was mad asf
Wow a Union Pacific
Cool video. There must have been a lot of complaints. How does that happen?
+Southern Pacific 2467 is guess a relay or something along the control circuit failed.
Wow that's loud
Yep
omg 2am in the morning horn malfunction oh no I would hate that traon
+Amtrak Tom haha! Yea from the breeze at first it sounded like a truck dragging a repoed car with alarm going off until I stepped out the front door.
TAKE HIM AWAY He bellowed & STOP THAT NOISE
that is so cool
I would be deaf listening to this in person
+SuperWorldFan360 yea it was pretty hardcore once it started rolling next to me lol. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
+SuperWorldFan360 yea it was pretty brutal once I got there. Funny thing was hearing it miles and miles away. Suddenly it quit. I still wonder if they plugged the hose or something.

I like Union Pacific train there's a largest railroad long time ago 1800s
UP 7706 GE C45ACCTE - Very Very Sick K5HL
UP 3867 EMD SD70M
R DPU UP 8553 EMD SD70ACe
and you wonder why LA changed their horn rule
+Tri State Railfan ProductionsTM its more of a malfunction. I think

Tri State Railfan ProductionsTM not all of LA thankfully SF springs is still horn friendly
is it kinda rare to see a Train Horn Stuck
0:27 Cover your ears
I see some head lights around the corner I bet it's a another train
Yup, while this one was stuck horn going on side track another came by and passed
Just pull a wire, that'll stop it!
Can't that damage the horns diaphram?
+Tykell Truitt id guess probably not there wasn't really a surge of pressure, But constant. And I'm sure the diaphragm is hefty for years of use.
OneStudPuppy I see
+Tykell Truitt thanks for visiting and commenting by the way. I appreciate every time I see a new comment, hope you subscribe too :) my channel will have a variance of entertaining things to watch :)
OneStudPuppy No problem and your welcome. I just subbed.
Why don't they just disconnect the compressor hose or turn the compressor off.
+ElectroSTRONG Network Ooh makes sense.

+Egon Spengler great points after the fact, I hadn't even thought about the true technical set up..
Do you think this was caused by a mechanical issue?
MR. ROSS I would guess mechanical or electro mechanical, relay or valve on a electrical controlled circuit
That's a long train
They should have shut the diesel engine down and drained the air tank to stop that horn! Obviously a stuck air solenoid valve.I'm surprised that there is no shut off valve in the air line that goes to the horn!!
Wtf is wrong with these K5LLAs??
+Sausbaus Trainz not a clue..
K5hl

Hah! Strangely took a year for this comment to be shown! Well played
frozen
+Norma Weather was about 70F not sure about frozen, but interesting to say the least and to hear it miles away, memorable event for sure
Norma Randall its like a car when somebody is dead lying on the steering wheel
+Amtrak Tom lol yup!
Let it go
MAKE IT STOP!!! TURN IT OFF!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I HATE UNION PACIFIC TRAINS!!!!!!
+Shannon Harris haha, yea I bet many along the path had the same thought. I think they tried to figure it out for a while then moved on. It's great prank audio to wake up people though! Hahaha
why do you hate union pacific they are the largest railroad in north america with over 29 states in coverage
if u do ur mad
@@AwesomeDesertTrains and second u could get a job there if you live in usa
