@MattBangsWood matt I just want to say how much I enjoy your content and your tips, thank you very much for your help and the stuff/work you do! Thanks.
Yo Matt I really like your content bro. I’m from Lahaina and lost my house in the wild fires. About to rebuild soon and learning from you will help with my home. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
Gotta love the 14 nails per side of a top plate splice. We run them much more tightly bunched than shown on this video. I'm sure the house will hold up either way..
I’ll check out our detail for it, it’s mentioned somewhere how far out they want them. It’s an absurd amount of nails, with or without the house is going nowhere.
Another excellent video Matt! I speak for everyone here when I say we appreciate you 🙏 I've got a pretty stupid question that I'm not sure if you'd know the answer to or not, I live in Florida where concrete framing is very common. Would the people who put down the concrete framing also be considered carpenters, or would they be something different?
Looking good fellas! 30 years in and now I'm sitting in bed after a full knee replacement thinking about my poor life decisions (might be the oxi talking) one down one to go then another 10 years (maybe)
We had a greenhorn that always laid his hammer down, spent more time looking for it till one day we hid it, nowhere to be found. The next morning, he showed up with a new, high-dollar hammer to replace the one he thought he'd lost. At the end of the day I said is this your hammer? I found it by the scrap pile. Lesson learned. That was about 10 yrs ago, I never told him. He will know now after reading the comment.
Great video. Quick question. Why do framing nail guns use nails that are .131 inches in diameter but a typical 16D penny nail for framing is .165 inches in diameter? How can such a big size difference be considered equivalent for framing?
Hi matt from Egypt enjoying watching your videos we have no such constructions obviously because there is no wood Egypt 😅 I have a question, why the bottom be blade green? And what is the material you but it under it?
Matt: Do you leave the sill nails in the header board or pull them? Thanks for the great vids! Just an old homeowner with a few tools and a little ambition here! 🤣
9:12 you always use solid headers. Is that by choice or seismic (code) required. In Florida, we've moved to sandwich headers with rigid foam board to give a thermal break.
"Lumberyard mold" grows on wood after cutting, before drying. During the Kiln drying process that mold growth is killed. I am not a Mycologist, this is just what I've read and observed while framing
When I first sub'd, you were all about the young buck coming up the trade. You had the 'A' team. You had tools and trucks and that loader! What happened to the skate board dude?
Matt, Im currently building a house owner builder in Southern California. Im in the undeground phase and after concrete is finished framing is next. What is a fair sqft price? My house is 1800 sqare ft and ill have a 1200 sqft detached two story shop with a 720ft adu upstairs.
Just a question, why do u stagger ur blocking so much? Here we just snap a line at 4’ & go top & bottom of our line. Is it because the walls in this build are 9’ so u space the blocking out more?
Hello y'all me and my brother built a tiny home during last year we couldn't get to it cuz there's some busy schedules after that so the tiny home sat for about 4 or 5 months and the crazy Texas rain and freezing temperatures at just framed out no roof yet we did put the trusses on there now and we did some blocking but they're still the whole thing to shakes. Is there a way possible to reinforce the walls to the piers so it doesn't shake ? I'm needing some help. I would very much appreciate any kind of advice as in to reinforcing the existing framed walls to the piers.
I suspect it's a Californian thing, but I've never seen horizontal braces in exterior walls, at least not here in Ohio. I assume it's extra strength for earth quakes?
@@MattBangsWood I was checking out a house build last year and the crew went to lunch I believe. Walking around and there’s a brand new Stiletto hammer laying in the dirt. I played with it a little bit and liked it. After I moved the hammer up to the compressor and left I bought one. Now I own two. A ten ounce and a fourteen ounce. One for electrical and one for framing. I also bought the Dewalt mig welded framing hammer. I use the Dewalt mostly because it will take a beating.
Redding ? I live in Nor Cal and let me tell you ? It doesn’t matter if you hv a pool ! Unless you have someone dumping blocks of ice in it! You only go to Redding to Flyfish or Flyfishing trip! That river has football size rainbows all day! Just don’t swim in it very dangerous! Ok back to the video!

Yes please, do another basic framing video. You guys do amazing work and inspire a lot, especially me.
Agreed. Even if the information is repeated in the video, it’s good to have another example to learn from.
Matt your such a kind dude, really appreciate you and your content💪
If every builder watched your videos the world would be a better place, or at least better built. Keep bangin!
Surely you can't be serious? Obviously you have been around only a few builders. Lots of good builders out there in the construction world.
He’s been on a rampage for a few weeks, not much you can do. ☺️
@@MattBangsWood No worries, it's the internet. Peace out!
Keep up the good work Matt, watching your videos to get tips on what I’m working on, thanks Matt!
Caddyshack is the best movie. "1000 bucks you miss that putt."

❤ your work ethic and details. Keep on going bro
What a treat you provide here.... thanks Matt
Vote for another framing basica for people who may want to do an addition or even completeing an un finished basement. Love the videos!

That nail gun is slowing you down and the recoil on it is crazy nothing like an nr83a
Indeed. Tri Tip for the win.
Just found this channel really cool to learn to build. I am trying to read learn bule prints
Hey, I liked the last video and now my circular saw cuts are much straighter. Thanks
Good work as usual .thx for your time putting out these videos . Good learning and teaching. Thx .💪👍

really enjoy the vids bro, btw did you ever find your hammer?

I am from Redding CA. Redding Summers suck so far we have hit 119' we have so far 30 days of 100+
Favorite movie is master and commander
good call. This is such an under-appreciated movie. Amazingly well done battle scenes.
Crankin along nicely on this project. Question on nails. Are you using galvanized nails on the whole job? Or do specific guns have galv nails in it?
Love your videos! I have a general question about 4x6s how do you know where to place them in a wall?
Bang on
If the lumber has dark spots like the one shown on 9:10 of the video, could that be mold and is that something to be concerned about? TIA
Enjoy your content Matt. Quick question: do you use regular framing nails for the pressure treated sill plate?
9:12 you always use solid headers. Is that by choice or seismic (code) required. In Florida, we've moved to sandwich headers with rigid foam board to give a thermal break.
Seismic - it’s an engineering thing for us.
@@MattBangsWood much appreciated 👏
Do you ever square the wall on the ground after you from it then stand it up or do you leave it alone and just always level it when you stand it
At about the 5:30 mark it looks like you're nailing a top plate and it's covered in something black. What is that? Is that mold?
"Lumberyard mold" grows on wood after cutting, before drying. During the Kiln drying process that mold growth is killed. I am not a Mycologist, this is just what I've read and observed while framing
Favorite movie is "Life" with Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy.
Is your hammer still were you tossed it, through the garage wall, laying on the ground?
@mattbangswood your boots are slick. What kind are they?
Danner 6” Moc’s
@@MattBangsWood those are those ones that look like they have a stitched toe cap?
TIA
Wondering, why don’t you sheet your walls and build the soffit before you raise the walls? Doesn’t that save time?
Just curious looks like the new Amazon nailing gun is ok
Top gun
What’s the horizontal blocking between studs for? Seems pointless if there’s no breaks in the wall sheathing
Rigidity, if not the wall studs get all twisted up..

How come you are not using battery operated framing gun?
Have been an iron worker my whole life and getting ready to build my retirement home. How do you know your walls are square
Dang.... How many 16D's do you use on a 3000sf house?
Too many. 5~ boxes in a 3,000SF house.
Maybe 4 if you’re lean? Could be off.. I got two for this house, it’s 1,800SF.
Do each of your crew have their own nailgun?
What brand of framing nailer are you using?
@@salvadorsepulveda6415 he said in a YT video that it was a Harbor Freight. His Hitachi was in the shop I believe.
What ever happened to that building you were re supporting? Are you guys done?
Wheres my hammer? Sounds like a new shirt design.

Pops is fast with that nailer. 🔫
The pest is my fav movie lol
No hammer makes u feel naked lol
#4 ✅
Put an air tag on the hammer.
Working on it! 🤣🤣
It's strange to see so much large dimension lumber used. That 6x material would be SO expensive here in Canada; all the headers would be LVL here.
It’s expensive here too, don’t get me wrong. Just how we have to build.
Framing is my hobby ❤ but am not over there😢

Buy a steel building. I’m doing 40x80 soon.

I’d say the John Wick series
