Problem is EM signature, most advanced nations likely including russia have systems that can, in pairs, pick up and pinpoint effectively any radio communication (personal radios, drone communication, air to ground and air to air radars) meaning the moment you launch it your location will be known. While russian integration isn't the best they will still likely be able to notify any nearby units within minutes to your exact location. Look at the aerospace and production lines for tanks and ammo. The capability is just not there to produce to requirements as the industry has not being sustained by large enough order. Protecting a nation with ~100 tank and fighter jets is optimistic and short sighted.
Israel has blocked Spike from being supplied to Ukraine. Therefore the German version (MELLS) is blocked. Could you imagine what a mess Ukraine would be in if the US had of relied on Spike? Spike is a more modern weapon than Javelin so the result is nearly twice the range, better penetration and accuracy.

@@stitch77100 Actually MBDA is a Joint venture of BAE, Leonardo and Airbus defence. They also buy the Mica, Meteors and Storm Shadows/Scalp gearing the Rafale, the Aster 15 and 30 for their anti-air systems, their ASMPA nuclear missiles, the MDCN and Exocets family for their ships. And most of those products are developped in cooperation with other countrys.
Is there a CV90 variant that carries a turreted howitzer, a self propelled artillery gun unit? I am familiar with the Advanced Mortar System (AMOS) - Twin Barrel 120mm Mortar version of the CV90 and I think that is a fantastic system that I would marry with units at a very low level, but a significantly longer ranged artillery system is needed as well for higher echelon.
AMOS was used during test eval for Swedish army but budget constraints made them settle for Mjölner which is simpler but still gets the job done. The Finns put a single barrel on their Patria which is named NEMO
The CV90 Mjölnir firing a 120mm GPS/laser guided HE and/or HEAT mortar round could use the same drone to identify and precisely locate multiple targets. With the ability to fire 16 rounds in the first minute, it could fire 4-6 mortar rounds in the span of about 15-20 seconds and target multiple targets rather than just one. And those rounds can be a mix of HE and HEAT, so the same salvo can be targeted at troops in the open or in open top trenches, soft skinned vehicles and building with command posts or ammo caches with HE and armored IFV and MBT with HEAT rounds. The 2-3m CEP of GPS rounds is close enough for the HE rounds. And if the drone has a laser designator, the less than 1 m CEP of laser guided HEAT rounds can impact on the thinner top armor of IFV and MBT. And if there are several tanks/IFVs, then multiple HEAT rounds fired at intervals just far enough apart for the drone to switch targets. Then in a single fire session several MBT/IFV could be targeted and destroyed before the Mjölnir equipped vehicle needs to scoot to avoid any counter battery fire that might be headed their way. Even more importantly it could do all of this from several kilometers away completely hidden behind terrain or other obstacles without having to expose itself to achieve the line of sight that an ATGM requires. Remember, if you can see them, they can see you, and a MBT's 120mm-125mm main gun round traveling at 1700 m/s (Mach 5) is about 6 times faster than your subsonic ATGMs. So while your ATGM might still kill the tank, if it fires soon enough after the ATGM fires, its last act might be to fire the round that kills you too. So while the traditional image of mortars is that of an area saturation weapon not at all suited to taking out small, well armored target like a MBT or IFV, the precision guidance kits now available for only about $6,000 each that can screw into the nose of standard 120mm mortar rounds can turn a mortar into a high precision weapon for far less than the $200,000 each for an ATGM like the Javelin.
@@znail4675 STRIX is very cool since it has its own infrared seeker that it uses to guide itself to any armored vehicle within the area it can maneuver to. And it can tell the difference between an intact tank and one that is on fire and hit the one that hasn't been hit yet. So a mortar carrier could fire several at a cluster of tanks and each round will find its own target so in the ideal fire three STRIX round, kill three tanks/IFVs But what does the STRIX cost per round? If, as a dedicated round in the same vane as the 155mm Excalibur, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't cost $50k per round. If so, you are back into the position of saving your STRIX rounds for a "special occasion". With the very low cost precision guidance kits that can turn every mortar round into a precision guided munition the potential to have every shell fired be a precision guided round becomes a cost effective possibility.
Is it possible to fire these from out of cover. For example, there is a treeline or a hill between target and launch platform. But via the drone, you can laser the atgm to the target? If so. I'll take 20
I wonder if the drone sits in some kind of enclosed compartment, because otherwise it would be destroyed by the branches, the dust and mud and the percipitation. Also i wonder if the drone can land back and recharge.
@@brigadgeneralvoid2508 its capable of both. Akeron MP was already tested with micro drone in BLOS mode in Cyprus. It was guided remotely by the micro drone and hit target at 4+ km. Its exact range is also a mystery as MBDA claims "more than 4km" in their brochure and it has already hit target at 5km.
Does the drone launch off a protected enclosure? ie. Can you position it on a platform, and have the platform open up or rotate outwards from the interior to the exterior? Or does a crewmember just place it on the turret roof while unbuttoned? I assume they carry more than one drone....do they have a dedicated drone operator, because that takes a lot of concentration? Also, how does one reload the missile launcher? Is that done internally by an autoloader, or by the crew, or attached troop element (like the Bradley?) Can it fire on two targets independantly, ie. two missiles in the air at once? So many questions.....I'm sure some Warthunder player will leak all the details at some point though :)
The launcher is manually reload from inside. I must say that i though that each new CV90 had either a/one drone or a launcher. I guess the system is to new to have all facts shown on TH-cam.
Give a country 500 of those, no need for a MBT. At this point, the CV90 is the best IFV in the world besides the PUMA(when it works). Amazing piece of machinery, and so good looking.
@@51TGM71 Not really, a MBT cant take any real hit anymore and the CV90 comes with a active protection system. The time for the MBT has come, same as with the battleships. But oppinion matters and i respect yours.
@@Thor_Asgard_ This argument is pretty basic and comes from a lack of understanding combined arms tactics. IFV have less armour since its function is troop carrier and mobility is its strength. One of the biggest game changers for IFVs and tanks, will be internally operated drones that the vehicle can carry. Normally the main weakness of an AFV is lacking situational awareness, making the vehicle weak to ambushes. And in NATO doctrine, it calls for infantry to cover the vehicles so they detect any hidden ambushes etc. But with drones carried by the AFV, an operator inside the vehicle can easily see what is around them from a bird's eye view. The gunner and commander could be looking through the thermal sights of the vehicle, driver is driving, and a fourth member of crew could be responsible for scouting with a drone.

Or even better add both a scouting drone option and suicide drone option for long range anti-tank strike.
They will soon. But no one saw drones being so effective so quickly as they have been in Ukraine. No one.
Also, drones can be jammed quire easily, properly used radars are much harder to jam.

I am happy to see Bae pushing the akeron. Whenever possible I think Europe should buy and invest in European tech. The spike is great, but it is best to keep a healthy local arms industry.
@@williamzk9083 spike is many different systems and good systems. Spike SR is the man portable version, it is fairly comparable in range. I don't understand the reason for the reliance on foreign missiles when Europe has a plethora of valid options. One of which is the Akeron.

The Finns put a single barrel on their Patria which is named NEMO
for that we have the archer system.
it doesnt exist any howitzer variants of the cv90 except the mortar variants, due to the platform being to small to handle the recoil sufficiently
Don't forget LVKV 90 that's awesome anti air system
The Archer is our Howitzer system. Howitzers and Combat Vehicles are used in different ways.
Why didn’t the British MOD cancel Ajax months ago and order different CV90 variants to replace both CVRT and Warrior in the British army ?
We, Ukrainians are grateful very much to Sweden people for valuable important military aid!
There is also the STRIX anti-tank round for the mortar.
@@znail4675 STRIX is very cool since it has its own infrared seeker that it uses to guide itself to any armored vehicle within the area it can maneuver to. And it can tell the difference between an intact tank and one that is on fire and hit the one that hasn't been hit yet. So a mortar carrier could fire several at a cluster of tanks and each round will find its own target so in the ideal fire three STRIX round, kill three tanks/IFVs
But what does the STRIX cost per round? If, as a dedicated round in the same vane as the 155mm Excalibur, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't cost $50k per round. If so, you are back into the position of saving your STRIX rounds for a "special occasion". With the very low cost precision guidance kits that can turn every mortar round into a precision guided munition the potential to have every shell fired be a precision guided round becomes a cost effective possibility.
Vart kan jag köpa en?
My regards to Sweden from France. It's always nice to see European expertise in action.

@@b.benjamineriksson6030 Car brake checks you... *opens missile hatch*.

I wonder if the drone sits in some kind of enclosed compartment, because otherwise it would be destroyed by the branches, the dust and mud and the percipitation. Also i wonder if the drone can land back and recharge.
It's most likely controlled by infantry accompanying the IFV, these thing's don't work alone.
Wait. Does the firing of the missile even require a line of sight if the drone has already confirmed its position?
Beautiful machine. I think the best ifv there is.
Nice CV90 !!! But how well does her armor withstand the impact of radiation from a nuclear bomb explosion?
They need the drone to feed targeting info to the missile allowing for beyond visual sight engagement.
The missile is already capable of BVR engagement.
It's guided from the missile itself
@@brigadgeneralvoid2508 its capable of both. Akeron MP was already tested with micro drone in BLOS mode in Cyprus. It was guided remotely by the micro drone and hit target at 4+ km. Its exact range is also a mystery as MBDA claims "more than 4km" in their brochure and it has already hit target at 5km.
When do we get the HAUL railgun cannon though??
I'm not sure if there are autoloaders for missile launchers at all. 99% it's only can be made from outside.
The launcher is manually reload from inside. I must say that i though that each new CV90 had either a/one drone or a launcher.

Give a country 500 of those, no need for a MBT. At this point, the CV90 is the best IFV in the world besides the PUMA(when it works). Amazing piece of machinery, and so good looking.
MBT are needed though. IFVs cant ever take a beating or push against defensive positions like a MBT.
There is a reason why tanks take the lead on any column or attack (to draw fire and withstand potential mines). Without MBT you would see far far more destroyed IFV and we all ready see more destroyed IFV than MBTs.
@@51TGM71 I agree... the notion that heavily armoured vehicle is outdated comes from rather poor understand on how things work. The role of heavily armoured vehicles and their use might change to some degree or the ratio of the different types of vehicles you want. But that is far from saying tanks are no longer important, that is just ignorant. The capabilities of the CV90 are just going to be enhanced when working along side a heavily armed tank and so will the tanks performance.

@@esbenm6544 not these, it is CV90-40C that will be sent according to what I have heard.
