    raid is such a simple idea math-wise, yet the implementation were so painful to use. Thank Apollo ZFS came along!

    Patterson is a great guy but this was hardly the first work on disk array. At Bull we were working on that in 1984 for a supercomputer project.

    I could argue that ZFS was the biggest invention since RAID was invented as it solves so many things in one solution. It's a pity that he missed that too. Plus Tape still backs up all cloud storage and is a big factor in the protection of storage loss. RAID won't do jack if threatened by attack by ransomware

    The important of reliability is tremendously higher for storage.
    Which is why for example RAIDZ is where it's at.
