I have added a Smiley telescoping GMRS antenna that extends to 5/8 wave length. Having not used the radio yet, does anyone else have experience with this setup?

Were you on the net this Sunday when they talked about how they were going to try doing some different things with the linking to prioritize local and regional communications during the day and then opening all the way in the evenings? I'm excited to see how those changes effect things for sure!
Matt, in the last month, I have ordered the KG905G and the KG935G+. I returned the 905 and I’m getting ready to return the 935 for poor transmission and receiving quality. I know you recommended both of these radios and I really liked everything about them. But they do not perform nearly as well as my Radioddity GM30’s. I am really frustrated because I wanted these Wouxon radios to work well. I cannot understand how radios costing $140-170 would be inferior to a cheap $30 Radioddity. I can understand getting a bad radio, it happens. But, getting two bad ones in a row is hard to believe. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations of where to go from here? I really enjoy your videos and respect your opinion. Thanks.
I’m sorry that you’re having that level of difficulty with Wouxun products. About the only other thing I would suggest would be going somewhere like HAM Radio Outlet and picking up a good Japanese brand radio like a Kenwood or Yaesu model like an FT60 with the MARS mod done to it. Involves a bit more expertise and know how when programming, but those radios are the absolute gold standard when it comes to quality, unfortunately, they just don’t make a part 95 certified GMRS model. Beyond that, if you’re happy with your GM30 and then fit the bill for all the features you want, then stick with ‘em and save your money, or just buy four GM30’s and share ‘em with your friends for the cost of a 935!
@@MattKester Thanks for your response. I have considered other brand, but as you indicated, it takes more effort to get them programmed for GMRS. I currently have 4 GM-30 radios which I pass around to friends on road-trips I was just hoping that by spending 400% more, I would get a better radio. The features of the KG935G+ are really great and believe me, I really wish the radio would work just as well. The TX and RX was terrible compared to the GM-30 radios. I guess I’ll just keep what I have and look for new radios hitting the market in 2024. It’s just so strange how you, as well as other Tubers called these their favorite GMRS radios and work so darn bad for me. Oh well. Keep up the great content. You want to hear something funny, I watched your Pepsi/Coke video and I totally thought you were a different guy after growing your beard and hair longer. About a week ago, I thought, wait a minute, that’s the same guy…Lol. Have a good one Matt!

I agree with you on this. But...the 935 is only $30 more. So if the pretty display is important and has additional cool features, then go with 935, if not...905 is where it's at.
@@nicke.3011 I’ve got a 9D Mate sitting on my desk right now and it is quite a nice little radio, especially it you’re going to be getting all outdoorsy with it! I’m still working it out more, but there should be a video on it soon enough!
The 905G is a great radio. I wish that Wouxun could update the firmware so that you can opt out of using channel Zones. The 905G is much simpler/less busy as far as UI goes.
Agreed on the zones, I don''t think they're necessarily for everyone. They took some getting used to for me, but I've kinda started finding them useful, I just wished you had the ability to set the size and and add/takeaway groups.
I have a Yaesu meter HT that is waterproof....so I gave it a 1 second dunk in the pool. I then tore it apart as far as I dared, and it spent the night with a fan blowing on it. WATER EVERYWHERE! Don't intentionally tempt fate.....
All the repeater tones don't work in the 905g we tested 5 radios I have 2 of them and the same tones are missing and BuyTwowayradios couldn't fix it. The radio needs a firmware update. I doubt they even contacted Wouxun. They didn't want to make it public and cause a panic. BuyTwowayradios did nothing to fix our radios.

I like this model a lot, at least on paper, because it has couple of features over the 805 that I wouldn't mind having.

The 905g is a great radio for the price. I’ve learned to use the group function to my advantage.

For sure! Yeah, for me, the 935 is totally worth the extra coin!
Today the price dif is $60...as much as my eyes lust after the 935, my wallet says 905 (which helps buy a UV9Dmate!).
