Yeah every now someone comes around with a cover and takes custody of a song. Whitney, Chris, and Cash are the three that I think of the most when it comes to that.
I met my wife while I was alcoholic she change me and 34 years later, I still chase her like I did when I fist noticed her. This song hit me hard when George sang it, Chris just makes me tear up. Thanks for reacting to it.

He's singing with his wife Morgane. He's written many hit songs for other artist and never saw himself as a singer. Morgane helped him get over his stage fright.
I've seen a lot of people claim Chris has stage fright. Tried researching it, but to the contrary, I only found that it was Morgane who has the stage fright.

Love that country boy with the Eta James soul and sound love it. He is one of the most soulful singers out there.
As I'm sure you well know, Chris is a writer & rearranged this song using the great Etta James' song " I'd Rather Go Blind". In my opinion he couldn't have done a better job

I like Chris's version of this , but George Jones was my favorite Country singer of all time
Coe and Co. took the Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind” song and basically wrote new lyrics to it and tweeted a few other elements, but prior to Chris doing Tennessee Whiskey, I do t think the prior versions had the same kind of cry, wail and raw emotion to the way Etta James sung it. My guess is Chris knew the roots of it all.
I love Coe's the best, but this one is good.

I googled the info to post in comments because if I remember correctly they were asking about it or discussing it in the video so I looked it up and posted it for them. I didn't mention her because I didn't know and it wasn't in the info I found, it wasn't intentional.

He's just covering the song. Not to take away from the other artists who have covered it, but he is the best to ever do it by far. The soul in this man's voice is like no other!

This is a cover of a George Jones classic. George was an undeniable alcoholic, who at one point, lost his drivers license and drove his lawnmower to the liquor store.

You need to hear Chris Stappletons and it's a man's world and I cried.
The whole song is about a guy who turns the alcohol because of being lonely and finally meeting a woman that replaces bad alcohol in his life. So he's saying to the woman that she's just as smooth as Tennessee whiskey, just as sweet as strawberry wine, and as warm as a glass of Brandy. He's also telling her that her love stopped him from reaching for the bottle.

This is NOT Chris Stapleton's song (although I think he COMPLETELY OWNS it now). It was originally sung by David Allen Coe and made famous by legendary country singer George Jones.
