    I love how you draw from the textual guidelines from a drama perspective. This is not an approach I see on TH-cam. Have you seen the Shakespeare performance exploration with Patrick Stewart and Judith Dench and Ian McKellen?

      I really appreciate that coming from you Tristan. Hoping to provide this help to all of the Tube ❤️ And YES do you mean Playing Shakespeare with John Barton??I watched the DVDs over and over again in college. Loved every moment. Great reference. So glad you’re enjoying this acting angle of my channel 🙂

    Thanks for the hot tip about setting the scene in your mind. I would not have thought of that for an audition but now I will!

      You’re so welcome Rebecca! “The Moment Before” is talked about a lot in acting training, but I find it’s helpful to flesh out as MANY moments as possible-before and after one’s monologue-to make the play (and therefore your playing space) as real and helpful as if you were in the real production. Because in auditions, for the 1 minute you’re speaking, you ARE in it! Hot tip achieved 🔥😎🙌 Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

    This was fascinating! The connection to current anti-Semitic events was so real!! Great job, and I loved your In Shelby’s Words. Made it so understandable.

      So glad to hear Heidi! Yes, the connection to current events is fascinating. It's striking how topical Shakespeare can be ♥️ And thank you for the feedback on my addition of a long paraphrase! I'll definitely keep that in now going forward. Thank you for watching ☺️

      Thanks so much 😌🍎🙌 So glad it was helpful! I LOVE that English teachers introduce peeps to Shakespeare. Sometimes it takes an actor (and a nerd) to give a little extra clarity. Thank you for watching and commenting hrid🥀!

      NICE Rebecca! “Bruh” 🤣🤣🤣 Shakespeare would have been so proud. That is everything-eth.

    This was so incredibly informative!! I’m honestly dying to know what Shylock ended up deciding to do!
    This may be a silly question, but how would one go about seeing this play?
    My 3 words were : appeal, beware, and await!

    • @ShelbyLovesShakespeare
      @ShelbyLovesShakespeare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Natalie! 😍 I'm so happy to hear that this video was informative and intriguing! And FABulous words for your Three Chunks. I love "await!" Very active.
      Don't worry, there are no silly questions in Shakespeare! I get this question a lot, actually, so I will definitely do a video on my favorite ways to find the Shakespeare plays we want to watch -- both in person and the best of streaming/filmed theatre.
      If you have PBS, I would highly recommend the series "Shakespeare Uncovered." Here's a preview of the episode on The Merchant of Venice: www.pbs.org/wnet/shakespeare-uncovered/uncategorized/shakespeare-uncovered-series-iii-the-merchant-of-venice-with-f-murray-abraham/
      There was also a 2004 film made with Al Pacino as Shylock that (as of now) looks like it's available on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/QfLlng_vHGg/w-d-xo.html
      Haven't seen it since it came out. I remember not loving it, but being impressed with Pacino's performance.
      Hope this helps! And thank you so much for watching. Would you like me to tell you what happens next? Or would you like to watch for yourself? 😏
