Some bees do actually get stuck in the honey when they harvest it, so there's a step that you strain it to get the bees, and bee parts out. It's why some people that are allergic to bees can't eat honey - if a lot of them get into it and get squished it releases enough venom to cause a reaction.

Hello Emmy, I clicked on this video because I love honey but can't have it. Let me explain... I have seasonal allergies and am unlucky enough to be allergicto grass, tree and flower pollen. Around my early twenties I noticed that watermelon made my mouth and lips itch. Then it was tomatoes as well, then cucumber... and around my mid-twenties a small bite of mango sent me to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. The doctor told me I was allergic to melons, which I accepted...I just avoided them. But more and more raw fruits and vegetables made my mouth and chest itch (like, the inside of my chest, I don't know how ele to explain it), I'm talking carrots, broccoli, apples, oranges... even celery. The kicker was when I had a peanut butter sandwich that I added honey to, again the itchiness and pain. I was fed up. I googled "why does honey make my mouth itch?" and what I found explained everything. In some individuals who are allergic to pollen, their immune system can eventually get confused and react to uncooked fruits and vegetables as if they were still the flowers they used to be, and since honey is basically liquid pollen (from my understanding), the only kind i can have comes in those little packets from KFC because it isn't real. I tell you all this because I was hoping your recipe would satisfy the craving I've had for honey these past eight or so years without sending me to the emergency room, so finally my question: is the syrup still hot enough when you add the flowers to alter their chemical makeup in a similar fashion to steaming vegetables or baking fruits to make it safe for me to consume? I have this allergy too. I havent tried this recipe but it should be hot enough to destroy the pollen!!! or the high sugar will change the chemical makeup.
The only thing i would be worried about is that the flavor of honey is literally from the flowers. At least in theory, the more honey flavor, the worse it would irritate you. Just be careful if you try it and dont let it cool down at all before you add flowers.

It made an interesting conversation and evening in our home 😊😊
Loved this video. I've made this honey for years. We own a couple of islands here in Maine that are loaded with both clovers and wild beach roses. I usually add about 30% more flowers than my mother's original recipe, but it's sooo good. Makes wonderful gifts. Thank you for sharing, Emmy! :)
Yeah, it was tiny and black. If my eyes didn't deceive me, it started flying around until she knocked it into the liquid with the spoon. But oh well, bugs are in so much of what we eat anyway.
Thank you so much for talking about the genetics of no body odor/dry ear wax! My husband must have this as well because it always baffles me how he has no body odor! And also dry ear wax but I never would have imagined the "conditions" were related.
@@alicethebakingfrog2180 Pollen = protein for the bees collected as the powdery substance on flowers and its used to feed baby bees (larvae) after it stays some time in the hive for fermentation. Honey = dehydrated nectar (watery substance produced by flowers) on which bees add enzymes found in their honey stomachs. So @Will C honey is also not flower infused syrup. This also stands true from a chemical compound breakdown (e.g. sucrose, fructose etc.)
It'd bee (hehe) awesome if you made some recipes with the beeless honey! I love seeing you use the products of old videos for new recipe, and it'd be interesting to see how it would react when used differently than just on toast.
Hi Emmy!! This was a lovely dupe and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, along with many of your other videos. So, I just came here to say with all respect - vegans could not eat this recipe if in fact made with white sugar. As you should know, white sugar is white because it’s milled with animal bones to make it white. I bet using turbinado sugar could be a great substitute!!! Again, love your videos! And thank you for teaching me so much including the phrase “itadakimasu”
Yes! I've been vegan for years and it still makes me cringe when someone says just use sugar. But then, I've also had plenty of people tell me to use honey as a sweetener, too. I don't even bother to say anything anymore.
Me too! I think she mentioned somewhere that she doesn't sell (you might have to get permits and all sorts of expensive legal stuff to do it). But if she ever decided to, she'd probably be sold out in no time. :P
@@1d1hamby it really doesn't though? BO is usually from bacteria, not fungus. AND, if anything is going to alter your natural odour, it's actually a low carb diet!!

I honestly always thought it was weird that my boyfriend could come back from playing basketball, he covered in sweat, and not smell bad. But now that i think about it, his earwax is also dry and now I hope our kids get his genes and not mine when it come to that. Lol!!
I can’t be the only vegan who still eats honey right? It’s good for bees to make honey and if it doesn’t get extracted it can be dangerous to the hive. Plus, those cute fellas work their butts off making it so it’d be pretty rude not to have it! That being said, my backyard is filled with clovers, so this could be a fun recipe to try out, especially since I love foods and scents that are floral. Great video as always Emmy!!
Awesome video! I drink cold brew this time of year, so I also make simple syrup. Lately I have been upping the sugar:water ratio. This looks like a fun weekend project.
Wow, interesting. I guess I'm one of those with a non-functioning whatchamacallit. When I was a teenager I always wondered why people were obsessed with perfuming their armpits. I eventually found out that some people's pits really stink, and never really understood why mine don't. Women I've been in relationships are always super jealous of it, too.
Growing up my grandmother made this every year using fireweed flowers. I loved getting care packages from her with a jar or two of fireweed honey. All of our Alaskan relatives have moved or died so there's no way for me to get fireweed flowers, but maybe I can make my own with roses or other flowers from the garden. It never occurred to me to try other flowers.
I have made dandelion syrup and lemon balm syrup using only sugar, water and (insert plant here). I've never added alum, though. My daughters both LOVE the lemon balm syrup, and eat it on toast, drizzle it over ice cream and begs for me to make lemon balm cake - which I have on some occasions. My lemon balm grows like CRAZY in my garden, so I have a steady supply all summer.
I have a very similar recipe in a book called The Early Australian Settlers Household Lore. Instead of alum it calls for lemon juice for acidity, as you're making an invert sugar syrup, like golden syrup. And suggests other flower mixes, including fresh parsley
These are definitely used as substitutes!! I tried making dandelion honey before and it tasted a lot like real honey with only a slight difference. And if humans can use an alternative and leave bees alone entirely, why not?
@@lucid2957 unless you keep the local bees in your own yard, care for them, and help growing these lovely pollinator. But I'd have panic attacks just from having one bees following me, let alone a hive of them. This recipe sounds great tho just for me imagining owning a hive and harvested them...
Noo beekeeping doesn’t harm the bees at all! Supporting local beekeepers is actually really good for the bees and the environment because it helps to keep them safe! This recipe as a substitute is fine, but most commercial ones are absolutely terrible for the environment!
@@mariliaishida1680 it isn’t good for *wild* bees which are the species that actually need the support. The bees from hives don’t pollinate crop species and can outcompete the ones that do. I don’t have anything against bee keeping but people shouldn’t keep them just under the illusion that it’s supporting the environment and ultimately our food crops.
@@lucid2957 we need to have commercial hives to keep the bees alive though, wild bees end up dying in the masses because their hives get to big and split, the bees that end up hiveless die and those can be hundreds to thousands of bees at a time. being able to control the size of hives and regulate that ultimately is helping the bees more than harming them.

This is so cool! It never even occurred to me to make a flower syrup to mimic honey. I'd love to see Emmy make this again using a lot more flowers, and maybe a few more different kinds of flowers too, to see if it makes the flavor stronger and more honey-like.

My middle daughter Emma, is the only one who has dry earwax, lol and the only kid who never had to use deodorant regularly, and I never knew that there was a connection lol I just told her and she was so excited to learn something new about her own body, so thank you for sharing!! It made an interesting conversation and evening in our home 😊😊
Emmy is the most adorable personality on TH-cam. There, I said it.
i have a lot of that gene UNFORTUNATELY
😂😂😂
I've always had very runny ears, but not much body odor.
d hamby samee
Luckily I’m korean, and my gene makes me have litterally no body odor
d hamby RUNNY EArs????
Loved this video. I've made this honey for years. We own a couple of islands here in Maine that are loaded with both clovers and wild beach roses. I usually add about 30% more flowers than my mother's original recipe, but it's sooo good. Makes wonderful gifts. Thank you for sharing, Emmy! :)
8:16 there was ABSOLUTELY a bug on one of the rose clusters that went right into the beeless honey... more protein I guess
Wait omg where
@@971elijah it's really tiny
Yeah, it was tiny and black. If my eyes didn't deceive me, it started flying around until she knocked it into the liquid with the spoon. But oh well, bugs are in so much of what we eat anyway.
She strained it. Honey a lot of the times after harvesting had bees in it as well. If you get raw honey you'll sometimes have bees in your jar
@@hopfritx5045 Cool, but disturbing fact...nun wrong with a lil extra protein👁👅👁
It's amazing how much effort goes into making honey and that Bees just do it naturally! What amazing little creatures! 😊🐝🍯
I cant get over the fact that your first son is 8!!!!!! I remeber when you posted he was born or something. Holy crap
Emmy you do know that higher carbohydrates in your diet makes more fungus and odor come from your body?
I know!!! Makes me feel so old hahaha I was so young it seems when I found her channel! We've come a long way! 🤗
@@1d1hamby I think you meant to post this in the main comment section
This made me realize how long I've been watching Emmy for. That's crAZY
Thank you so much for talking about the genetics of no body odor/dry ear wax! My husband must have this as well because it always baffles me how he has no body odor! And also dry ear wax but I never would have imagined the "conditions" were related.
My husband also has the gene that prevents body odor but I never knew the ear wax aspect of it!
I am also in the dry earwax, no body odor family 😚 🐜
(Apparently it’s common with East Asians)
Lucky. I’m part Japanese but I still have body odor.
One of my ear has dry earwax, the other has wet. But I have body odor T_T
I'm Peruvian and my mom, dad and sister have wet earwax, meanwhile me,,, I have dry earwax and no body odor 🤪
Please send me one of your brothers so my kids can get in on this gene pool.
If emmy sells a used paper towel, i’d buy it. Man, the way she explains everything is so ✨✨✨✨
I used to chow on clover all the time as a kid, I was convinced I was Thumper. But I had a thing for clover and honeysuckle!
mmmmmmm, honeysuckle!! :)
The intro/outro music gives a huge hit of nostalgia.
Emmy : *makes honey without le bees *
Mother nature : wait that's illegal
Nah, she made flower infused syrup.
@@Kwijiboi I mean is that not kind of just what honey is?
@Corbinite nope honey is the transformed natural sugar bees create using pollen.
Some bee classes are pass / fail. In mine, everyone got a bee.
Never thought of this way to make honey. Such an amazing recipe as always!
Thank you so much 😊
CONGRATS on 2M Emmy!!
@@carols.martinez8533 I’m not vegan but I know because my good friends are and it’s simple to research
I just watched Adam Ragusea’s video on baking powder that came out today, so I actually knew what alum was! Love that foodtube synergy 😂
Nice! 🙌🏼
Thought I was just getting an ad but got interesting genetics stuff too!? This is a very happy nerd right here.
Yay, I love hard times videos!! More please!!
That pour of the honey into the jar was so satisfying to watch!
That is such a cool recipe! Specialty stores charge so much for vegan honey but you can make it yourself! 🌹❤️
You mentioned the fragrance of clover flowers. One of my favorite memories as a child was smelling the clover growing in our yard.
My caption said “eat the turkey mom” 😂😂 Do you sell you honey Emmy? I would love to buy a jar from each foraging season.
Me too! I think she mentioned somewhere that she doesn't sell (you might have to get permits and all sorts of expensive legal stuff to do it). But if she ever decided to, she'd probably be sold out in no time. :P
Emmy, your videos are my favorite. I learn something from your videos and you’re fun to watch. Thank you!
that might be the most sugar I've ever seen LOL
I know right?! 🙀
Why not use naturally grown organic raw sugar instead of processed chlorinated white sugar?
No wonder the kid has a lot of body odor. You do know that higher carbohydrates creates more fungus and odor in and on the body?
@@1d1hamby it really doesn't though? BO is usually from bacteria, not fungus. AND, if anything is going to alter your natural odour, it's actually a low carb diet!!
@@Punchy-Mango low carb diet produces BO then?
I ordered the deodorant. My daughter has bee itching and having really dark skin under her arm pits. We tried several brands so I hope these will help.
When I first read the title I read it as “blessed honey”🤣
Yeah me too when i read it the second time
Everything Emmy makes is blessed so you're technically not wrong.
Crow the mad true. She’s a special breed for sure
I actually read it as butterless 😂 and I'm not even sure if 'butterless' is even a word 😂😂
i read beefless sugar and i was like ???
I honestly always thought it was weird that my boyfriend could come back from playing basketball, he covered in sweat, and not smell bad. But now that i think about it, his earwax is also dry and now I hope our kids get his genes and not mine when it come to that. Lol!!
i want more prison food cooking from that prison food book
Alex McCrary you should check out Jessica Kent’s channel! She has done lots of prison food videos
THANK YOU it's so fucking stupid honey is considered not vegan in the first place!!!!!! it makes me so mad
Oh my GOSH emmy!!! I'm allergic to honey so I can't wait to try this recipe!🥰
I have wet earwax, but my grandma had dry earwax with odorless sweat. 🤔 This recipe is great for people who can’t consume honey!
You're so right! My aunt is so allergic to bees that she can't have honey, so I'm excited to share this with her. C:
That must mean u stinky
@@jhkjhkghj only 2% of the population has dry earwax/no body odor.
@@katk7505 does that include east asia because most of them have dry earwax and no body odor.
Well I guess that's one way to explore that age old question.
To *Bee,* or not to *Bee!*
I have a very similar recipe in a book called The Early Australian Settlers Household Lore. Instead of alum it calls for lemon juice for acidity, as you're making an invert sugar syrup, like golden syrup. And suggests other flower mixes, including fresh parsley
*Stares in maybe a vegan substitute*
I’m not even vegan lol but still!
I'm an arthrophobe (person with unreasonable fear of crawly crickets that has exoskeleton especially those feet, and also most things associated with them such as buzzing and fast moving tiny black objects in the corner of your eyes) and watching emmy made me want to care for bee hives, she's just so lovely and positive.
This is the first time I’ve ever actually used an affiliate link because I actually was interested in the product???? Ive wanted to try natural deodorant but I’ve been too nervous to try them bc many don’t work but Emmy is awesome and I trust her opinion!! Can’t wait to try my new natural deodorants :)
Oh my goodness Emmy, of course you have bees, you're so awesome, I want to be you when I grow up!
(I say as a 26 year old grown woman haha)
I know you as the little lady who will eat anything- it's nice to see you make a video of something I would like to try, and not geoducks or canned burgers. You make me wonder what it's like to be so adventurous that you become a voluntary guinea pig, and to make it gainful- you are inspiring.
confirmed, my husband has dry earwax and no body odor. i smell like the man in our relationship.
I love clover honey soooooo much, I always thought it was fascinating that different flowers produce different flavors in honey. there’s a candy shop near me that sells honey sticks with different flavors based on the flowers the bees pollinate, it’s awesome!
noooo!! i just ordered native a few days ago 😭😭 i’m glad that you believe in it though, it makes me feel safe in my choices hehe
You made a great choice! Native is safe, simple, and effective. 💙
This is so cool! It never even occurred to me to make a flower syrup to mimic honey. I'd love to see Emmy make this again using a lot more flowers, and maybe a few more different kinds of flowers too, to see if it makes the flavor stronger and more honey-like.
When I was younger, I would eat the clovers in my backyard coz my mum didn't like them. So she asked me to eat them.
My friends and I would eat them while pretending to be rabbits in the school yard! 😂
Hahaha like you're a little goat!
So glad I'm not the only kid who are clover flowers. 😅
I pick the big fluffy pink clocer flowers to dry for tea! Added to my chamomile and a bit of mint- so yummy in winter for a pick me up
I have a book titled “Bee keeping for beginners” that I got from my great grandmother when she died.. Always thought it would be fun to keep bees! Red Clover in concentration can make you drowsy
