    Waqar's wicket at 7.18: he's bowled several mind blowing yorkers over his career. If anything, one of them should be the so called ball of the century.

    The "straight arm" thing seems to be the significant difference.. pitchers pitch overhand as well (over their heads), but you're right, they bend their elbow while doing it. Thanks though, I appreciate the fact that you at least approached the question with a shred of respect and decency, unlike some other people here. Good man.

    Thanks for these videos. I am a baseball player, and I think cricket is an impressive sport. The parallels between the two are incredible. It would be great if cricket caught on here, I would give it a shot.

    @adraim69 it has to do with the outdoor weather in Canada for most of the year. Cricket can only be played in summer in Canada. There's other historical reasons too, including Canadians adopting American culture more than the British while Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka following the British sports culture more.

    @lopside0 So atleast you are on the right track. Let me educate you further as I think you might be looking up the sport of bowling rather than the act of bowling itself. What you are referring to is called 'underarm' bowling. In cricket bowling evolved from 'underarm bowling' to 'roundarm bowling' (started around mid 19th century) to the modern day form called 'overarm bowling'... all these types of bowling have only one thing in common that you are not allowed to flex your arm. Simple as that!

    @tjohn1986 i agree. That is coming from Baseball. Real cricket is not about six. I would rather watch Sachin Tendulkar hit a brilliant straight drive from a seemingly decent fast bowling delivery rather than watch a Afridi hitting a benign delivery to the stands.

  • @lopside0
    @lopside0 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why the hell do the "bowlers" run? Pitchers throw every bit as fast from a standing position.

    @lopside0 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @imranahmedkhan I'm not sure that the semantic difference between the word "bowling" and "pitching" is all that meaningful. I checked in a few dictionaries. "Bowl" means to roll a ball along the ground. Considering these guys are hurling the ball overhand, I'm not sure that we're talking about a distinction with a difference. If what you're saying is that there's a rule mandating they keep their arm straight, then you could have said so. But thanks for the completely misplaced condescension!

  • @imranahmedkhan
    @imranahmedkhan  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @lopside0 the answer itself is in your question #facepalm. These are 'bowlers', hence they don't bend their arms to throw like 'pitchers'. They have to run in order to generate momentum which allows them to 'bowl' as fast as possible.

    If you look at the release point of the bowler you reference, that is a typical over hand arm slot for a pitcher, doing what is known in baseball as a "crow hop". something an outfielder does when trying to get a batter out. Some outfielders release the ball at 120 MPH and throw accurately at 300 feet. Pitchers release at similar speeds WITHOUT a running start, and reach similar and exceeding speeds than cricket bowlers at 60 feet, not 45 feet.

    • @imranparray
      @imranparray 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the ball in baseball is lighter.Cricket ball is 5 1/2 ounce.

    • @shahriarswapnil9649
      @shahriarswapnil9649 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrTekuani because in baceball you can bend your hand while throwing. but in cricket you cant. you have to bowl. throwing and bowling is not the same thing.

      U need to run and gain momentum...To turn ur torso...And then bowl... Bending ur elbow is illegal In cricket
