Can we please set the bar for what constitutes 'success' for Caleb? If he doesn't make a ProBowl by year 2, I'll propose that it was a mistake to take him. The opportunity cost of passing on 3 first-round picks is HUGE. If he doesn't live up to the hype by the end of year 2, THAT will be something that will never be lived down. I don't wanna hear 'Nobody knew he wasn't gonna be great', or 'everybody was sure he'd be amazing' to excuse the decision from everyone caping for Caleb. The dude hasn't done a damn thing in the NFL yet, and people are anointing him as 'the next Mahomes.' Also, stop talking about paying Fields. You'd be getting THREE players at premium positions with contractual control. You're gonna have to spend in FA, and pay a premium on older players if you don't use this pick to acquire additional draft capital. The value to the team vs amount paid for R1 picks is HUGE, and you'd be foregoing the opportunity to do that with THREE players.
That's just it. If they draft Caleb and trade Justin, Caleb HAS TO be better than Justin by year 2. He can't be the same or worse. If he is the same as Justin, all they did was get an extra year or two of cheaper contract at QB... but they give up the potential of 3-5 first and second round draft picks over the next two years which would save you way more on rookie contracts at multiple positions than just the QB.
The only way I would trade Fields to Atlanta is if they give up their 1st round pick this year! If Poles picks CW, it will be his last season with the Bears!
The Bears O-line has been a disaster as well! Andrew just gave 'excuses' about the O-line 10:49 at USC, yet Bears fans don't want to hear about it with JF1. LMAO Bottom line, the O-line must be fixed REGARDLESS of who's behind center this year.
Anytime some uses the "Need to reset the rookie salary contract" as principal factor to draft a QB, is a huge waving red flag for their sound decision making. You owe JF 3Mil next year and 23 Mil if you sign his 5th year option add those together and you get 26 Mil for the next two years. If you draft CW or any other QB at 1 you have to pay them 50 Mil /4 years and it you would pay him more than 20 Mil in signing bonus, so how is that cheaper than 26 Mil??? People are throwing out all of these crazy numbers that have ZERO basis. I guess there isn't a whole lot of MATH in broadcasting school. I've check and there is NO team that has ever won a championship using "Resetting the Rookie Salary Clock" as team building technique.
The painting the finger nails is more of a deeper issue than just wanting them to look nice. Wake up! He’s got deeper issues not physical football ability related. WHO ever picks him is going to have a leadership in the locker room problem with him. He’s no Mahomes, Burrow or even CJ Stroud.
You're full of it. The QB has always been the scapegoat in Chicago. This is the first time In my lifetime that I've seen the majority of Bears fans support a QB. It's why mental toughness is an Attribute a Chicago QB must have. Honestly, Chicago has a misery fan base
I certainly am not an expert. But based on the fact that GM Poles keeps saying that the Bears still have several holes to fill on both the defense & offense, I truly believe he will once again trade down for a boatload of draft picks (projected to be 6 to 8 picks... including multiple 1st Rounders) spread over 2024, 2025 & 2026. And the Bears also have a projected $80 Million to spend in free agency!! With this most likely being GM Poles last shot at making such a massive impact on the Bears roster, I don't think he will pass it up.
If the Bears keep JF1, why do they need to pay him 40M/yr now? For "good faith", pick up the 5th year. If he plays like an average starter and the Bears have winning season and make the playoffs, he's worth the 20M in year 5. If he plays better, then renegotiate towards making him the franchise QB. Keeping JF1 means trading down for multiple first and second round picks in the next couple years, making it much easier to be a perennial playoff team for years to come, allow older players to hit free agency, with high draft picks taking over at the right time. A couple of those extra ones or twos could be once again turned into more future picks, or allowing the Bears to trade up to draft a QB in '25 or '26 if they don't want to pay JF1 after year 4 or 5. The best move for the Bears is to keep JF1 and trade back. The best move for Poles is to have a crystal ball and know definitively that CW (or other '24 QB) is a future HoF QB and draft that person at #1.
I just hope the people that want to restart the QB clock are willing to be patient with Mr. Generational. The great MaHomie even had to fall back his rookie season, and learn from a winning QB in Alex Smith. We don't have that on the roster, and if y'all expect Caleb to come in to save the day from game 1 stop smoking that BMF dope. It's not happening, and we'll be fortunate to reach the same record as last year. Maybe if the defense gels we could go 8-9 fighting for a wild card berth.
Pretty sad also that if Poles makes the wrong move he gets fired. Doesn't matter even if he had good picks last year. Nobody knows now what Caleb will be like in a year or two or if Justin gets better.
I am not Poles’ biggest fan. But I do feel for the guy. This is a make or break decision and it isn’t easy. I like JF and think he can be the guy. But I don’t know what I would do in this situation bcuz there are more questions than answers with Fields. But to be fair, those questions remain bcuz ownership allowed a lame duck GM and HC to pick a QB
Why has nobody thrown this scenario in there: 1. Trade Fields 2. Sign Cousins to a 1-yr or 2-yr deal 3. Draft Caleb Williams To me, that makes the most sense. Kirk can win you a Super Bowl now and Caleb can be your future if he has time to learn.

CW is far and away much better and already does things that Maye doesn't do. CW does the things you can't really teach. He throws from ridiculous angles like Stafford and mahomes. He extends plays when the pocket collapses from a 4 man rush and yet he still kept his eyes down field... always.. I mean always looking to throw the ball to an open reciever while breaking ankles. I’m getting worried that Poles hasn’t been able to trade Justin by now. I don’t think we’re getting a 2nd round pick.
This is ABC preschool talking - tooo many have went into deep depth about each of these subjects and here their just regurgitating what was talked about 3 months ago. This is PG talk - surface talk. Nothing to hear here that hasn’t been deeply taken apart by many of late already.
CW13 and Mahomes are around the same size, same screen and scramble offense, arm talent, and arm arrogance. That is the comp, doesn't mean they are going to be the same just that they compare coming out of college.
Pat is 3 inches taller and the most determined guy I’ve ever seen. Caleb ain’t 1/10 of Mahomes. He can’t handle adversity!
I love to watch Justin run. I love watching him escape the pocket. He does things with his athleticism that are jaw dropping. But in three years he has not developed as a passer. At all. You CANNOT pay him Franchise Quarterback money. It’s time to move on. Caleb is the best talent available.
We don’t need to pay Justin. He’s owed 6M this year. There’s no fire.
You guys are miserable in these comments, you believe your guy ( Fields or Williams) is the only answer and nothing else would ever work. Let the GM cook, if it doesn't work either then stop supporting the product. I'm a fan no matter who they pick, I'm gonna be watching whether it's a playoff run or a train wreck, I'm here for it
I'm a USC fan and a bears fan. He's going to Chicago. No weapons no offensive line. So... what's he going to do. Since he can't beat a top 25 team. Now he's jumping to a new level where everybody is a top 25 college team. Lol
How many times do I have to school your ass? You're not a Bears fan or a USC fan cause I'd think if you were, then you understand wtf is going on. You fall for the propaganda of other NFL teams/media that is coming up with stupid excuses to try and drop CW draft status. Think about it. Peter King, Colin Cowherd, Hasselbeck. Non are Chicago fans. And none had actual evidence to back up their claims. Yet idiots like yourself fall for all of their stories.
And he also has a rocket arm. CW read defenses pretty well already and you see him work through 2-3 progressions in a play during a game. He has a quick release (like rodgers did when throwing to recivers slanting/dragging over the middle). CW is insane. I think that's why others are trying to inflate Mayes draft status. It's the NFL. If you don't think teams will use propaganda on each other and trick each other, then you don't know football.
If you point out CW "bad" games and decide thats the reason you dont want to draft him, then you need to rewatch those games or read from a proper evaluator. His defense was ranked 119/124 in the entire FBS. The are absolutely putrid. His Oline was swiss cheese. Again, he was constanly pressured by 4 man rushes in the blink of an eye (youll understand if you watch the Oregon or ND game again... or pretty mich any game). And his wideouts would constantly drop the ball. Like easy passes that hit them in the hands in the middle of their chest type passes. Its insane that USC had a winning record this year with the talent they had. CW is insane and you should want him for so many damn reasons than what I've already stated.
If Tyson Bagent can win games so can Caleb
What happened to the defensive recruiting last year...
He would be 1 st pick in the last 2 and the next 2 still. So ...
@ddm62571 The Bears won In spite of Bagent .. He's not very good.
It's not that hard. Every year two or three teams are wrong about the top quarterbacks. If you like two or three of them this year, let other teams pay you to guess which one will be best.
3 year extension
⭐⭐⭐ I'm not the smartest person in the world..but if the bears LOOKING 👀 for a haul for the first pick....does that mean they're possibly trying to stick with justin? Poles will not let others make his decision..if the 1 was a number 3 pick.. he wouldn't move up for Williams. So don't let Williams change your plans!!!
Whoops. Bo
Will the chiefs trade Mahomes to ‘reset the contract’?
He mentally couldn't handle the media in Chicago like Justin Fields has.
You're brain is mush
Whatever. Justin just proved he can’t handle it, duh.
You guys are clinging to the most ridiculous things with Justin.
Not to mention the Chicago media is one of the weakest in the league at holding guys accountable.
Half the reason is they’re all dorks that don’t know the game to know how to question them. The rest of them are too scared to get their credentials taken if they do hold people accountable.
You have the owners who are too scared to even give the media a mic so we can hear what they ask just in case they would step out of line.
Can’t handle the Chicago media. Funny.
@@NickkaDUBJustin played 3yrs with us.. never once blame other ppl for the failures, never through a temper, never asked for a trade, whole locker room wants him including the last home game when fans was changing his name.. never seen that with a losing team
He spent a couple years in LA, he can handle the media.
You. Trade back
You pic Roma wr
You either Trade up or trade back pic. No Nix
Unfortunately you don’t win games by handling the media🤷🏻
No point in talking other options...Bears are taking Caleb Williams
JF gets 8mil 2025
The big pay-off is not til 2026 and the Bears can Franchise tag. This is false miss information
Man Caleb Williams another Justin fields he not gonna come in and change the franchise smh trade pick one for more picks
Hope he pans out. They take trubisky and williams instead of mahommes and stroud. Typical bears.
CW is a bust. Rosen was probably better. Take Daniels
Bo Nix
Trade Justin and the pick.
You all are clueless. Ryan trades the pick.
This is aging well 😂😂😂
You all know nothing. Justin stays. Poles trades the pick.
Sick of hearing it. Figure it out already…
All of this is hyperbole
All total nonsense.
IF POLES TAKES CALEB AT #1 AND HE IS A BUST OR JUST AVERAGE HE WOULD LOSE HIS JOB...... IF HE KEEPS JUSTIN AND CALEB TURNS OUT TO BE WHAT HE IS ADVERTISED TO BE HE STILL LOSES HIS JOB HE IS BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE.////IT IS SAD TO SAY BECAUSE I WANT TO KEEP JUSTIN AND USE THE HAUL WE GET TO FILL LOT OF HOLES BUT IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO THE MONEY WHEN EVERYTHING IS SAID AND DONE THAT IS WHY THEY TRADE HIM.......THE MONEY COMMITMENT!!!
