Since I exist, I was taught this common denominator. But a saw an asian video where does different and seems easier example: it adds the whole #s 6+4=10 separate and put on the side, then to add the fractions: it ignores the + and multiplies crossing the fraction 9x2 is 18 and then 3x4. then on the top 18+12 and on the bottom is 9x3 no crossing and the fraction will be this: 18+12 divided by 27 that is 30/27 then 10/9, then put the whole # 6+4=10 along with the 10/9 and it will be 10 10/9. It's hard to put here the fractions. Actually I don't even remember anymore the common denominator method, and got surprised with this asian method. So I hope I am not that wrong.
