This was an excellent trick and he's a likable guy. But, the "Spanish mentalist" shtick is annoying after about the 10th time. I dd find it odd that he made a point of picking up the Orange card and therefore highlighting that there were only 5 colors to choose from.

This is one of my favorite performances. I love it when the crowd is involved. The fact that his volunteer handing out the cards and mixed them really added to the trick.

Regarding the anxiety, the same sort of thing happened to Michael Ball. He started off playing Marius in "Les Miserables" in London and ended up having lots of anxiety attacks which resulted in him leaving the show. Later on, he played Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera" in London after Michael Crawford and Steve Barton went to the Broadway version, and he played Marius in the 10th Anniversary Concert for Les Mis.
There's also ABC news anchor Dan Harris, who famously had a panic attack during a live segment on Good Morning America. He returned to air and also became a big advocate for meditation.
I have seen Javier Botia perform live in 2018 Busan FISM. He won champion of mentalist and invention award. That means he creat this method and recognized by best magic competition judges in the world.
Hi Jason, I'm living with GAD for about 20 years now. I also was a totally normal, functional guy. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a panic attack happened. But, I didn't seek help, instead I was so scared of it, that I started to avoid everything that I thought would trigger a panic attack. Which of course made things worse. It was only when I didn't leave my apartment anymore, that I finally looked for help. The "do what caused your attack" approach is called "confrontanional therapy" and is very successful in lighter stages of anxiety disorders. Like the fear of spiders as the most famous example. Your body and brain slowly learn that nothing really happens and the alarm signal (the panic attack) is not needed. In the end you overcome your fears. With a heavier case like mine it fails, however. I have a few tricks at hand (thanks to my therapist) to calm myself down, when the alarm bell starts to ring, but I'll never get rid of it. I sometimes think of me as being weaker than guys like Javier. I know that it isn't true, but it feels like it. They are brave, where I just breakdown.
My wife and I actually got to watch this one the other day. That never happens due to our schedules, especially hers (shes a RN and man.... shes been busy). I enjoyed it very much

The instruction was to hold the paper up in the vertical position. The reason for this is to make the loop antenna in the seat back parallel to the loop antenna in the piece of paper, which allow maximum radio signal reception. Loop antennas are directional, which allow signals to be maximally received in specific orientations (ex. animals radio collars locators). The microcontrollers (for example an Arduino board) in each chair send the identity of each paper by blue tooth to the computer behind the picture. The picture has a subtle clues, manipulated by the micro-controller, which tells the mentalist which person is holding which color. As you can tell, he spends several seconds looking at the picture to interpret the subtle information in the picture. Sorry for the technical explanation, but this is a very technical trick. I have done similar things with RFID readers using Arduino circuit boards.
@@cdiogoc That is a good question! Since there was a cover over the picture during the selection of cards, that tells me that the picture made changes during that time. If the pointy-top roof was all the way on the left side, that could mean that the person in the left-most seat is holding the blue card. This idea is very similar to a deck of marked cards you can buy for about $10 on Amazon. An open circle in a certain spot on the back of the card represents the suit, while another represents the rank. With just a little bit of practice, anyone can learn what a card is by simply looking at the design pattern on the card. I am very fast at it, but if I was very nervous because I sensed someone knew what I was doing, it would take extra effort and slow me down. Knowing the above, go watch the video a second time. You can notice that he spends a lot of effort viewing the picture, and you can truly sense that he is making decisions while looking at the picture. To me, it seems overly so; thus, he must have been nervous (clearly understandable) and thinking that Penn & Teller had picked up what he was doing. He was trying very hard not to misinterpret the information in the picture. I do think he did a great job at it! Kudos to him!

Normally I don't enjoy mentalism. In this day and age there are seemingly unlimited was to use technology. But this was very enjoyable and caught me by surprise. And I suffer from severe anxiety. I don't have panic attacks, but I understand how paralyzing and devastating it can be and how much you have to work.
I think the moral is: She wanted to reach to something she is not, so she needed to change her whole self to make the man love her... But deep inside she still had a part that wanted to stay true to her inner self and hence she chased the mouse. One should not change into something one is not, just for another ones oppinion. Sorry for mistakes in my english :)
As a non magician in the traditional sense, what i do with lockpicking can seem magical because most people don't spend the time learning the craft, its all simple mechanics. I can attest to anxiety attacks taking over sometimes and hitting a wall. It's not fun. I now pick to calm myself down. Competent. Not at all an expert yet. With practice however. Any craft can be achieved. Excellent video, always entertaining, keep them coming. I hope everyone is staying safe and well.
Jason, you never fail to bring a smile. That said, Javier was very entertaining, but I have no idea how he did it (all the better, I love a good mystery!). Aesops tail was a bit sad but the expression is that a leopard cannot change it's spots and in this case the cat couldn't change it's mouse chasing habit even though it had changed it's form.
XD another reaction to Shawn wouldn't be as interesting as seeing BOTH of you react to Fool Us at the same time ;) Or any other excuse to get you two to video-chat or otherwise work together :b I really liked your book disappearing into magic smoke :)
FYI, Penn and Teller has now upload full episode of Fool Us on their own channel here on TH-cam. Go search them out if you want to see the full episodes. They upload about one full episode a day.
Did not look like that to me. Penn asked if they could examine the envelopes and did it quite hesitant at first. Enough time for the magician to say "ok, I think I haven't fooled you".
The show should be called Wow Us more than Fool Us. I bet Penn and Teller knew how he did it (I think I also do, except some details). I believe Penn says it in code (half of it). Of course, when they go on stage they already know that the envelopes have nothing strange. Anyway, great act!
Performance was entertaining and megical I really liked ur vdo analysis please upload more your point of view.... Coz u r a megician u can see what we can't see. Love from india
The way Teller was handling the envelope at the end makes me think he was looking for a partition inside the envelope, such that a colour card would slide into one side, but when the spectator reached in, they would get the pre-loaded card on the other side.
They knew imo that the envelopes were clean. Otherwise they would make a drawing or just say that he didnt fool them. The envelope breaking was just theatre
Like Spock, I found the Matador Magician’s performance “fascinating”. Fable: you can’t change a person’s basic nature. So, be very aware that if you marry someone, don’t think you can change them for long, as their true nature will eventually win out.
I think you should record a reaction to Shawn's newest reaction to you, but perhaps only post it if you afterwards feel like you've added enough new commentary. I assume you will watch it anyway so why not record it as you do and if you feel like you didn't have much to say you can just delete your footage and it barely costs you any extra time.
And also yeah i watched the live premiere of his latest reaction video... you guys work well together.... Maybe for your P&T performance you can have him do a reaction to it live then have him come out after?
so i realy love this trick and his performance i had some thoughts, but im not sure im right... at 5:09 he randomizes the envelopes again. There is only one reason i can think of why this is done, to confuse us who has which colour. Now even the audience doesnt know the colourpositions anymore... so basicly it does not matter who has which colour. He just has to switch the colour to the one he wants during the reveal... But even watching it hundrets of times... i can‘t figgure out how he managed the switches...he never touches the envelopes again.... so i still have no idea... but i still think the second shuffle is important but i don‘t know how ... such a great performance
It is a simple trick all based on technology. The 5 coloured pieces of paper ( Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red ) all contain a small radio chipp ( RFID chip 1 mm 2 ). This information is read out , and then send to the lcd painting. 5 different silhouettes, they represent the colours.
Perhaps RFID tags on each colored card and someone behind scene reading the tags with a long range sensor and communicating the color to Javier via some radio device. Regarding the banner that deploys behind the participants there can be several banners with different color combinations but remember that the order of the participants is chosen by the mentalist who already knows the colors that each person is holding so only the right banner is deployed
The interesting part of the miss direction is that when you perform in front of magicians you have to make they think you are. You have to misdirect your miss direction,
I'm not into mentalism, i usually find mentalism boring, and i have no F*** idea how this was done. Unless, but i don't think this would be the case in this show, there was a stooge between the 5 selected people from the audience. Again, since i don't think this type of trick would be allowed on FU, i have no freaking idea. Great presentation, for an even grater trick. Well done!
Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are two completely different things, although many people use the terms interchangeably. I suffer from panic attacks. The main difference between panic attacks and anxiety attacks is that anxiety attacks are triggered from something external, where panic attacks are internally triggered. With panic attacks, the body releases adrenaline for no reasons at all. The spike in adrenaline causes an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure and a feeling like you are dying. You have the flight or fight reaction with nothing to point at as a trigger. It is human nature to want to determine an external cause for your panic attacks. For example, I had breakfast and than had a panic attack, so I became afraid to eat breakfast. The breakfast had nothing to do with it, but I was afraid none the less. It is not uncommon for people with panic attacks for have lots of phobias, and the phobias can lead to anxiety attacks. For this reason it is very important for the person suffering from panic attacks to not associate external triggers with their panic attacks. Panic attacks are bad enough without adding phobias and anxiety attacks to the list. I assume this is why the Doctors insisted that he get back in front of people.
I could perform this trick with technology. Think tappable credit cards :-) I think once you know the colors in the envelopes, you arrange them in an order the rest of the trick works. Massive Kudos to Javier for overcoming his anxiety to perform on a huge stage with a huge audience!
I just heard someone explain that if you tap into your childhood memories and recollect the feeling of not being able to stop reading that favorite book, or stop watching your favorite TV show or movie, that somewhere in that exact memory, in that very book or shoe/movie is an extremely meaningful aspect of life that you’re missing. This Easter egg that lies in whatever is was that captured your undivided attention as a child can very likely hold an answer to life that you’re desperately searching, or not searching for, that will help you determine exactly what it is you want to do with your life and what everything means to you in life. For me, it was either the book “Outsider’s” or maybe “Dead Poet’s Society.” Regardless of what mine is, I haven’t found from my memories exactly what it is that this person was suggesting that I find, while concluding their discussion. I’ll keep looking though. I recommend others try it as well and see if it works for you. Anyway, great video JP! As always, keep up the amazing work!!
People say RFID. I think more likely is a UV laser. That's why they were instructed to hold up the envelopes. The envelopes only have to be a little bit transparent and either the face colour fluoresces or there is another fluorescent compound that flashes in the UV spectrum.
A great performance and how he did the trick didn't really matter, everyone was entertained and that's the point. His Doctor was right to try and get him out in front of people again otherwise he may become reclusive. Choosing magic was a brave thing and i guess he may have had some failures, but you pick yourself up and do it all again and every step you become a winner.
ok I've seen this video before, but I rewatched today... and the fable in the end made me laugh so hard! (What if she was pregnant, she would have some half cat/half human baby... who else would come to that conclusion... lol!) Hope you are well!
I recognize the man who distributed the envelopes and the colors. I don't know if he is a magician or a comedian or a youtuber, but I know I have seen him elsewhere.
I feel his preformance was over the top he may have fooled Penn and Teller but I don't see how this routine proves he is a world class mentalist. The routine was pretty basic from my point of view but much like you're not a doctor I'm not a mentalist or stage magician. I feel the best mentalist I've seen is a native Brittish mentalist named Derren Brown I feel he's far more humble much more entertaining and well known. I'm happy that he got over his anxiety though I've had issues like that and I can relate as well.
I do not know if it does it this way but he could have use RFID. With a reader in his pocket and specific signal/rumble for each colour. At some point it walked in front of every participants pretty close to the envelopes. My guess
@@JorWat25 This is basic! He said orange is not a color and remove it. The colors left are only 5: Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red. He knows where the colors are maybe with the RFID (I noticed as well that he passes very close to each envelope) then he put the people with the color they have in the position he wanted (same as the final prediction). The final prediction is there from the beginning so he must achieve that final result: Blue-Green-Red. The point here is: how he knew about the colors? Maybe every single paper thrown in the air had a small RFID chip like the one on clothes in stores. Now they are so small and thin and the trick is in the yellow band he is wearing around his waist: on the side it has a kind of tail, maybe an antenna/reciever. Pay attention every time he passes close to the envelopes he point the end part of the band towards the envelope.
@@strechsanchez As a panic attack owner, i will tell you that its not only in your head. You are hyperventilating, you have heart beat going through the roof, your different parts of the body start shaking etc. It really feels like ur dying and having a stroke or w/e. Feels like your going to collapse or have seizure any moment.
4:41 the "Asian" men turning his envelope around cause he probably not understanding completely what's going on or what the Spanish mentalist is saying, it's so cute and heart-warming.

I think the moral is:
She wanted to reach to something she is not, so she needed to change her whole self to make the man love her... But deep inside she still had a part that wanted to stay true to her inner self and hence she chased the mouse. One should not change into something one is not, just for another ones oppinion.
Sorry for mistakes in my english :)
I want to see you on fool us... 😄 .. upload your show right away you perform on fool us 😂
Aesop: A chameleon can be any colour in the spectrum of his choice but must always return to his natural colour
But does the chameleon have a green card?!
Aesop : We can all choose to be Cinderella for a while but only until that clock strikes the midnight hour
1 of the best fool us acts ever wow
Wow! Goosebumps!
XD another reaction to Shawn wouldn't be as interesting as seeing BOTH of you react to Fool Us at the same time ;)
Or any other excuse to get you two to video-chat or otherwise work together :b
I really liked your book disappearing into magic smoke :)
He should get Shawn to help him fool penn and teller! That would be so damn cool
I genuinely feel happy for the guy
Wonderful act. I don't need to be fooled. So good!
The Phone2 app was unexpected plug, but I was like "oh wait, maybe I can use that". And the wheels started turning.
At 6:50 he could have walked off stage and I would still feel the same way. I like this guy.
FYI, Penn and Teller has now upload full episode of Fool Us on their own channel here on TH-cam. Go search them out if you want to see the full episodes. They upload about one full episode a day.
I really enjoyed his act it was great and funny at the same time im glad he fooled them.
100% they knew it wasn't the envelopes before they even climbed on the stage to rip them.
that's how it seemed to me, because i don't think they would have ripped them if they thought it would reveal the secret.
Well he can see clearly from the floor's shadow, smart guy
Panic attacks suck! Fortunately I haven't had 1 in years, but you'll never forget the experience, ever.
Excellent performance. Kudos to Javier. I was thinking the envelopes had a minute hole strategically placed to see the colour.
Not sure where to put this, please check out Orson wells magic trick on his last appearance on the merv griffin show... it’s tight
Like Spock, I found the Matador Magician’s performance “fascinating”. Fable: you can’t change a person’s basic nature. So, be very aware that if you marry someone, don’t think you can change them for long, as their true nature will eventually win out.
The Spanish Mentalist ... tarammmm
"The leopard cannot change his shorts."
@kabouter Gnome 😆
Rofl @ half cat /half human hybrid!!! Funniest moment of the vid!! 😂😂😂
And also yeah i watched the live premiere of his latest reaction video... you guys work well together.... Maybe for your P&T performance you can have him do a reaction to it live then have him come out after?
Aesop: ...a scorpion will aways sting on cue
Loved his performance
I really enjoy your videos!!!
Jason when you go on Penn and Teller fool us to perform do me a big favor be yourself and I can't wait to see you on there
so i realy love this trick and his performance
i had some thoughts, but im not sure im right...
at 5:09 he randomizes the envelopes again.
The 5 coloured pieces of paper ( Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red )
all contain a small radio chipp ( RFID chip 1 mm 2 ). This information is read out , and then send to the lcd painting.
5 different silhouettes, they represent the colours.
@@firestar7188lmao never
Perhaps RFID tags on each colored card and someone behind scene reading the tags with a long range sensor and communicating the color to Javier via some radio device.
Regarding the banner that deploys behind the participants there can be several banners with different color combinations but remember that the order of the participants is chosen by the mentalist who already knows the colors that each person is holding so only the right banner is deployed
I am cured! Ole!
The interesting part of the miss direction is that when you perform in front of magicians you have to make they think you are. You have to misdirect your miss direction,
Javier looked like his heart would be broken if he did not manage to fool...
Well done!
I think that thing he threw when he produced the fan had an infrared light on it
Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are two completely different things, although many people use the terms interchangeably.
I'm cuuuuured people ! Haha
'A leopard can't change its spots'
Nice act. Pretty confusing like the story at the end. It fitted the whole video. 😂😂😂
ok I've seen this video before, but I rewatched today... and the fable in the end made me laugh so hard! (What if she was pregnant, she would have some half cat/half human baby... who else would come to that conclusion... lol!) Hope you are well!
Thanks :) haha
Aesop: Time can be a witch: and can magic a young heart to an old hag at the flick of a finger
There we go then JP, you need a funny routine with envelopes. It appears to be P&T's blind spot. 😜
I recognize the man who distributed the envelopes and the colors. I don't know if he is a magician or a comedian or a youtuber, but I know I have seen him elsewhere.
Is it Alex Velluto?
Very nice video 👍
I feel his preformance was over the top he may have fooled Penn and Teller but I don't see how this routine proves he is a world class mentalist. The routine was pretty basic from my point of view but much like you're not a doctor I'm not a mentalist or stage magician. I feel the best mentalist I've seen is a native Brittish mentalist named Derren Brown I feel he's far more humble much more entertaining and well known. I'm happy that he got over his anxiety though I've had issues like that and I can relate as well.
Hey Jason, when you going to do Magic with your friends again?
hmmmm not sure! Just taking a breather today and thinking about next videos...... :)
@@JasonParkerMagic there are very funny they get strong reaction. Love it!
I got a Penn & Teller Ad before this 0.o
I do not know if it does it this way but he could have use RFID. With a reader in his pocket and specific signal/rumble for each colour. At some point it walked in front of every participants pretty close to the envelopes. My guess
Then how did he get the flag ready? I can understand having multiple fans and confetti, but that flag was there the whole time.
Well he went to hospital... Panic attack is a medical condition not just simple stress
It's all in your head
@@strechsanchez yeah... Just like strokes...
@Dirty Pixels but both are in your head =) It was just play on words.
Panic attacks make your heart go wild so
@@strechsanchez As a panic attack owner, i will tell you that its not only in your head. You are hyperventilating, you have heart beat going through the roof, your different parts of the body start shaking etc. It really feels like ur dying and having a stroke or w/e. Feels like your going to collapse or have seizure any moment.
What if the files that were on the ground are different than the ones he gave the people
4:41 the "Asian" men turning his envelope around cause he probably not understanding completely what's going on or what the Spanish mentalist is saying, it's so cute and heart-warming.
