The Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Park was a vision started in the 1960s by the Bossier Parish with the construction and filling of the 3000-acre lake in the 70s. The park itself covers about 345 acres. It provides nature studies, water preservation, camping, fishing, sporting opportunities, etc.
According to past newspaper articles the zoo, built in 1998, had a veterinarian and cared for severely wounded and sick animals. However, as of today's date the website states, "We are not licensed to accept hurt or abandoned animals". Most likely that is the reason we saw so few animals
on this trip through the zoo.
It is a great place to camp and meet friendly people. Be aware that beverages with alcohol are not allowed.
