The German company that invented the teddy bear, Steiff, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Margarete Steiff.
As part of the celebrations between 5th and 7th July, the company is auctioning off a selection of teddy bears. The star attraction is a prototype teddy from 1925 and is the only one of its kind.
The first cuddly toy was invented by Margarete Steiff in 1880. It was an elephant made from felt and was intended as a pin cushion. Instead, children fell in love with it and the rest is history.
The first teddy bear was made in 1902 and put in its first public appearance at the Leipzig toy fair in 1903.

I could watch those mechanical animals all day long !! How I wish I had been able to go to the factory when I lived in Germany, just never made it there before it was time to leave. I do collect Steiff bears along with vintage, antique, American, Artist made bears, Hermann and other teddies. My collection is 900+ stuff bears, plus I have bear related items.
I have a bear that is possessed by demons, I have to keep it locked up, but sometimes I let him out to reak havoc.
i collect Steiff bears i love the growlers yet they sound more like a sheep that a growl lol
You are actually right they use the same stuff that the toy sheep cans use so they sound just like those

I love to see videos of Steiff Teddy Bears because of their quality and cuteness. However, I was very disappointed to see that Steiff was displaying a 1933 Nazi Solider. I know that it is part of Germany's very dark past, but Steiff should exemplify innocence and happiness, not evil. However, all of the other Steiff Teddy Bears and stuffed animals in this video were lovely:).
