- Chances are the invading Allied troops of D-Day would've faced an even tougher fight on the beaches of Normandy if not for some special pilots spreading their wings in the run-up to the attack. Stephanie Riggs has the story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots, the WASPs, whose sacrifices during World War II were barely known, until now.
We can never forget these women 🙏❤️
I always thought a spin off or parallel movie like "A League of their own" about the WASPs would do so well. People were so honorable back then.
I'd watch it😮
0:44 Her answer is so touching. The nation's support in the 40's was so inspiring.
Thank you Ladies our Heroes.
God bless those women pilots and their families for their service and dedication. May they be long honored and remembered.
This
God Bless America! It is sad we dont have this type of Patriotism today! It would be a much better place! Bless you ladies!
Thanks ladies! My father was a gunner in a B-24 bomber stationed in Horsham St. Faith, England, Feb thru April 1945.
lantie, May I ask, did Your Father(RIP) overlived in this last Months of most
terrible fights and battles..
My Oncle Oscar operated = 'Nachtjäger
-Special night-commando/Radar-plane-fighter
in last days of war, ordered to eastern-front
w/last gas near Elbe-River, crash, but living.
With Civilians, over blusted bridge, saved
to other side of Elbe-River to US-Militaries.
Unfortenately, as the US-GI's did see the 'Soldbuch w/decorations = did kick him back
in Soviet-Zone. Result - until 1955 as PW..
(1961-I did same in new BW-Luftwaffe
after some years, I felt = lost time.. for me)
served sometimes Nato-Manouvers - as L/O
-Liaison Offz, Luftwaffe to - Usareur-HQ's
7-th.(US)Army, Heidelberg. Met good friends, but some came never back from Vietnam (because for.. promised higher,
faster Ranks, all thought let us make, 'Quickly
the full Colonel....)
Surely You had had served too, w/change of
mixed feelings, orders and Kameraden.
Good bye, with best Wishes, Health and Luck,
@@AlexanderJScheu Alexander, I’m not sure I completely understood everything you stated, but my father was 20 years old when in England and made it through 21 missions when the war ended on May 8, 1945. He came back to the US to fulfill his remaining year and began working on several of the missile silos as an inspector until 1964. Then worked as an inspector on the Atlas rockets in the sixties getting ready for the moon flight in ‘69 then the 747 airliners, fighter jet wings and the space shuttle Bay Doors! He died at 57 of lung cancer in 1982. I missed having to go to Viet Nam by 2 years, graduating high school in 1973. Yes, the war was horrible as we have found that everyone is the same and we have to treat each other with all respect! It’s crazy and sickening that all these young men and women were killed in the fight! I hope for you the best also and that your health is well and will continue! God bless you!

I have Margaret Weiss's 1973 VW Superbeetle. She bought it brand new, kept all the records, and a flight log from day one, till the day she stopped driving. She named her bug "Sunshine"
What an honor! I have put this video at the top of my Must See Military in Action/Tributes playlist.
Biggest flex, I knew one of these female pilots. Sheril Haugan. Wonderful woman.
I'm extremely proud of those brave women.
Thank you so much....
I admire and respect these ladies so much. 😊
These women's achievements will never be forgotten, no matter how much some may try. 1/2025
Sad she quit flying in '44.
The WASPs were great pilots.
Thank you Sara Payne Hayden for your service during WWII as a WASP!!
Outstanding!
Respect ........✊
I actually loved this
Love and respect these classy ladies👍
Women in Military Service for America Memorial - needs financial support: Please see the NY Times article dated May 27, 2019, titled: Female Veterans, and a Memorial to Them, Struggle to Honor Women Who Served
they should make a movie about Jackie Cochran and Jackies Girls.
robert sanders they did
D Jones what’s the movie called
What great, amazingly charming women and strong personalities those WASPs are! My congratulations to all the survivors and their offsprings with the Victory Day! Tatiana Manukovskaya (Ки Чанс), Russia
2009 was too late to recognize the WASPs many had died should have been done in the 1990's.
They WERE recognized earlier, I presume 2009 was something extra juicy jubileum.
Lucille was a smoke show back in her day. 👀
She seems like a lovely person, besides. Bless her.
No female ever flew combat missions in WW2. But here is a sobering fact...The U.S. suffered 52,173 male aircrew combat losses.
Way to go ladies!!
My Grandfather's Sister Ocie (Pat) Hawkins flew 1943 1945.
Wasps is very fitting name for the women who served, because wasps are mostly female dominant soo thats why also they make great anime girls too
Instead of a P-51 Mustang they show a Bf-109, a German fighter airplane, at 2:18.
One thing I can agree with about Obama: Thanks for passing the bill for the Congressional Gold Medal! Better late than NEVER.
My Grandmother was WACWWII
Sorry to see that. A woman is passionate.
Now these are ladies I respect and they blow these insufferable third wave feminists out of the water.
A misogynist like you would have been one in 1943 as well.
POV: im in first period doing a veterans day assignment. :)
❤️❤️🙏🙏
Unforgivable! No benefits? No military funerals? Not until the 70's! WASPS who survived had to wait decades to be vets? And still, here we are in 2021 & people are pooing the idea of women in military. The GI Jane movie clearly showed how unappreciated & hated women in the military are. Shame on the military men who disrespect, rape, harass & belittle EITHER sex- men or women. Retired/disabled HFD Classified Civilian, Central Command. The "classified civilian" status of mainly women to hold them down is the glass ceiling, still in existence today. Heaven forbid if we are considered as important & worthy as this country's men.

1100 examined Wasps and 12000 planes delivered, it would give as average 12 planes per woman; must mean, either most women never come into service; OR its some fault somewhere. Because most of the active WASP delivered hundreds of planes... And typically several different planes; sometimes perhaps up to 30 different types of plane... Of course, WASPs not always delivered. A big group towed artillery training planes - these planes often in badly maintained planes in bad condition. (the male pilots flew the same planes, but these were military, while WASP counted as civilians) Some few were test piloting. Quite a few flew passengers - often military big shots.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 👏👏👏👏
I would have loved to fly brand new WWII era aircraft “far from the front lines” 00:20
I think this may be the only case where a group of people never joined the military or served in combat, but were later deemed to be veterans with the same benefits as the folks who were actually involved in the fighting (or officially joined the military).
No armed force is able to go into battle without functioning support/back office. Lots and lots of men, who indeed were considered to be soldiers, also never came close to the enemy in WW2. So what's the difference?
quinnjim there are also males who didn't even see the front lines and we're deemed vets also keep in mind that this is ww2 the planes they were transporting are important for the war so if they got shot down that's more wins for the axis there was also an aircraft carrier that was lost with a bunch of wasps in it
quinnjim “I think” But, do you read?
They flew those planes overseas and had to train the men to fly the new planes ✈️
This dude is a troll. I’ve seen him comment negatively on almost every WASP video. @quinnjim find something better to waste your time on.
Women join the war effort, 45 dogdge it
i'm in miss dover class
And feminists say that men are the only ones fighting in ww2
No, they don't. You tried though. .05 out 10 for your 'effort'.
Lol🙏🏻
How did the 38 women die if they they were not in combat?
The women were civilian pilots with no military benefits when they died - no flag, star in the window or thanks for their service. There was suspected sabotage. Some were training accidents, weather related accidents and mechanical failure. The women had a slightly better accident rate than the men. They proved themselves equal to men in the cockpit.
@@designerduds1Lots of women pilots in my family. The plane is the ultimate equalizer. It flies or it doesn't and doesn't care who you are.
@@matthill1727 Absolutely right you are. The women in WWII proved that under great duress and gender prejudice. That was Jackie Cochran's mission. Both the Tuskegee Airmen and the WASP were experimental programs to see if they could fly as well as a white, male pilot.
Mgtow Thunder ✈️ planes crash engine problems they don’t have to be shot up to crash
How come women didn't drive trucks in WW2? They did many jobs men normally would do, but not truck driving.
HateGovernment my great-grandmother was driver in WW2
HateGovernment ...ummmm, they DID....:)
Elizabeth Windsor was a driver in WWII. Today she works as ...the Queen of England. Many women in the Free French also drove in combat, some in the Foreign Legion. I met General Leclerc's driver Mugette in 2009, she had the Legion D'honour and other awards for combat service. She retired in New London, NH.
Women did drive trucks, ambulances etc. In the UK in WW1 in the FANY, and in WW2 it was renamed to the ATS. My grandmother was ATS and worked on the anti aircraft artillery guns (on the Predictors) and was also a driver and mechanic.
