The Finals is an exciting FPS game developed by Embark Studios, known for its amazing destructible maps. This game has rekindled my love for FPS games, even though it has a few bumps along the way. Let's dive into what makes The Finals so special.
In Quick Cash, the main game mode, players form teams of three and face off against two other teams of three. The main goal is to find a box called the vault, open it, grab the cash box, and deposit it into the cashout. Each deposit earns $10,000, and the first team to reach $20,000 wins the match. This simple objective is packed with excitement and challenges!
The game features live commentators, Scotty and June, who add extra excitement to each match.
The Finals offers various maps with unique layouts. For example, Seoul is divided into three sections with a central tower, while Vegas boasts compact casino layouts. Maps also feature different conditions like suspended platforms or construction sites with cranes. Weather changes, like night or fog, and random events like alien invasions, meteor showers, increased damage, and low gravity add variety to every game, making each match a fresh experience.
Players can choose from three contestants: light, medium, and heavy, each with unique weapons, abilities, and gadgets. This adds depth to team strategy.
Not all weapons and gadgets are equally effective, though. Lights have nine weapon options, and mediums and heavies have six, but competitive choices narrow down to a few favorites. For example, lights' throwing knives are less useful than the shotgun or SMG, and mediums' grenade launchers are handy compared to assault rifles. This limits the variety of effective choices a bit.
Each class has its strengths, but the light class can struggle in team play. Heavies and mediums contribute with shields, healing, and revives, while lights excel in solo kills. This can affect team strategy.
One of the most thrilling features of The Finals is its destructible environment. You can use explosives to access objectives or take out enemies. Moving into collapsing structures with the cash box is an adrenaline rush!
The game includes barrels and explosive tanks scattered around the map, adding strategic elements. Barrels contain fire, poison gas, smoke, or goo, which can be used creatively. Goo forms instant cover, gas controls zones but is countered by fire, and more surprises await as you play.
Progression in The Finals involves unlocking new gear and cosmetics. You earn weapons, abilities, and gadgets through VRs gained by playing matches, while cosmetics can be unlocked by leveling up equipment, purchased through the store, or unlocked in the battle pass bought with premium currency.
The Finals also has fantastic sound design with distinct audio cues. The soundtrack adds excitement, especially during crucial match moments. The mix of music and dynamic sound effects immerses players in an exhilarating game.
