- 20 licks for Minor Swing, written by Django Reinhardt. Minor Swing is one of the most widely played of all Gypsy Jazz tunes. In this Violin lesson I demonstrate 20 licks that you can use when soloing over the Minor Swing chord sequence. The licks are categorised; arpeggio licks, harmonic minor licks, minor blues licks, chord substitutions, original Grappelli licks and so on. I show how in many cases the licks can be repeated over different chords, either with or without transposition. I also show how they can be modified rhythmically or melodically to make the improvisation more flexible and creative. As a hopeless piano and ukulele student that doesn't hear music in my head, I need help on how to be musical. My piano teacher made a remark this week. He says I'm a real Geek when it comes to music theory but I lack in ear training. Practicing your techniques helps me with that aspect. I know what to do, I just have to recognize the landmarks on my journey. Not as easy as it looks...or sounds.

If I remember correctly, I believe the backing track is still in there, it just blends into the background.
