Homeschool family from South Africa here. We used TGTAB until grade 8 sadly it's our last year with them I wish they had proper high school curriculum we would continue. I love love how you homeschool your children. You remind me of our early homeschool days. May you stay strong and blessed, it really is a beautiful journey. I'm not sure what we'll do for the 9th grade my country has new strict rules for home educators so I'm not sure what we'll do. Nice continent song Zara.
I get up around 7:38am. Thay is when i have my alarm set for. However usually my dogs have to eake me up around 6am. My girls get up around 7:20-8:00am My 13 year old girl gets her school subjects and starts her work not long after she wakes up. My youngest 11 year old girl puts school off until she has to. So we start around 9am. Deoending on how lazy we are, sometimes (not often) we start at 10am but no layer than that.
I would love to see a video like this in your 300 sq ft. We live off grid too, in 350 sq ft. I'm homeschooling 3 at the moment and I always enjoy new tips for small space homeschooling.
I’m going to be honest. I don’t have the time to sit through this one. I hope you guys are doing well though. When you have a shorter one I can probably watch it. I just can’t sit still for that long. It has been busy here. Between my newer dryer dying and my father-in-law being sick and with a broken toe I have been getting my cardio in. 😂
No worries! I know that this length of video isn't for everyone! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Yes you do sound busy! Hoping the next month will be a slower month for you. All the best!
Not gonna lie, this made me cry. You’re doing great. However, I’m really on the struggle bus right now. I’ve said a few times like “Come on, I just want to get this done.” And it shouldn’t be like that. We’re doing TGATB LA and Math. I recently moved my 1st grader from level k math (MWC) to catch up on things he wasn’t understanding. So he’s not on the same pace as my other 1st grader in Math. Also, I changed from IXL for my 3rd grader into TGATB, but he struggles with reading. Idk what I was thinking. It’s very hands on and it’s just not working for us. We both end up frustrated. I have to figure this out. I just want to enjoy this time and help them.
You got this! My youngest struggled in reading too. He's 10. In 4th grade, but we're on the level 3 of TGATB. Now, it's spelling we're working on along with math. Don't stress. Every child learns differently. Take it one day at a time. Stay positive and remember how homeschooling is a privilege and blessing. You can go as fast or as slow as you need for each child. Building their confidence is important, so don't stress on what you think they should know or be doing. You got this momma! I'll send prayers and good thoughts your way. We all struggle at times and need encouragement. ❤ - Sheena
@ Thank you so much. I definitely needed to hear that. I had a heart to heart with my son and plan on shortening the lessons for now along with math facts. I think he just needs to get used to the format and probably gets overwhelmed seeing all the words on the page.
Thanks Sheena for the encouragement and 1000% agree what you said. And Tiffany you got this... your plan sounds perfect... slow it down. When I started off homeschooling or whenever we need to take it slow... we take it slow. And every child is different... and he will catch on to things on his own time. My niece here is in 5th grade and doing level 3 Math... she struggles with math but I put her where she needs to be. And I'm so proud of her progress! I'll also be praying for you ❤️
Came here to say the same thing! I have been homeschooling for 5 years and let me just tell you that TGATB is very accelerated. Its not until years later that i realized my kids have a huge gap in their learning...Which is such a BUMMER! Im slowing things down a lot and trying something very different. First of all, try to unschool if you can! We all need it becasue as public school parents, we have our own exoeriences and expectations that we are basing THEIR education experience off of.. Try out a book/novel study on Teachers Pay Teachers! Sometimes reading a book is all you need. Sit next to them and you read your side of the book and he would only read the right side of the pages. Make sure he reads word by word with you so he is studying the words as he listens! or get an audiobook and have him follow along with his finger if he isnt a strong reader. Buy a study guide based off of a book you choose or ask google for comprehension questions per chapter to see if they retained what they are reading! Im planning on having my kids copy a sentence from the chapter and write it out and draw a picture. You can dive deeper into it by asking them to point out the nouns in the sentence, the punctuation, verbs, and all of those things. A good curriculum that has helped me slow down and enjoy language arts is First Language Lessons. Its still parent led and they get to write in their own journal. I use Fix it grammar for grade 3 and up in addition to FLL. We are going to be starting a book notebook where they can paraphrase what the chapter was about and expand of the books settings, characters, and the climax. Writing Rhetoric is a very good workbook to teach comprehension and paraphrasing! I found it free on google too. I hope this helps you. You seemed as overwhelmed as i was and i have finally made peace with my choices.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m plugging through the good and the beautiful with my six year old and she’s slowly picking up. I chose to keep her home and also begin school later because I recognized that she had some of the same learning differences as her older siblings. I’m feeling a little bit lost with TGAB because of how slow we’re going. I don’t see it building upon itself phonetically that will teach her to read. I keep questioning if it’s enough. Have your children ever struggled with reading and did you use supplements or just TGAB? Thank you ❤ new sub, so I apologize if this is addressed is a previous vlog.
No worries! So happy you found my channel. My first year Homeschooling my son (he was 5 and now is 10) I just did my own thing. I was kind of lost and just really deschooling. I probably cried a lot that first year. I have a video sharing my first year. I'm going to link it in a seperate comment. The following year I started using the good and the beautiful and it worked so well and kept going. I've used the good and the beautiful for all my kids so far. My 10 year old is an awesome reader... very independent... just his biggest struggle is spelling and I've tried different things and I think it's just something he struggles with but I see him progressing at his own pace which I happy about. My 5 year old loves learning. And is good at everything lol I also do think he is gifted. My youngest girl I just go with the flow with her. But I use the good and the beautiful and I do see them progressing. I usually do very light school in the early years. Every child is different and pause when I need to pause. I used some extra resources for my 5 year old ( Jady A Elemental phoncis) and that's just because he was moving so fast and wanted to just do more review as I didn't want him to just fly through TGTB. Hope this helps! Which level are you doing of the good and the beautiful?
@Dejenquelosninosvenganami we started with the good and the beautiful preschool, and then did the prek, followed by level k and now we are on level 1. I did do level 1 and 2 from Jady A learning as well. Which was just something extra because he was flying through the curriculum so fast! !
@ Thank you I started mine with all about reading level 1 once he learned the letter of the alphabet and their sounds but I don’t know if it’s to post to take so long but my 5 yr old gets frustrated and I just bought Jady’s elemental phonics hoping it will go smoother for us both 😓 feel bad I stopped but I have two homeschool kids who needs my full attention along with 2 toddlers and a baby 😓 gets a lil too much at times.
@Dejenquelosninosvenganami totally get it. We need simple, sweet and effective. I really like Jady A Elemental Phonics. I'll probably do level 3 after TGTB level 1 is finished. Hope it goes well mama!
Hello would you like two pen pals. I have 8 who doing 4 grade and 5 year who also doing second grade i show them your videos. They enjoy watching them from Texas
Hey love! The kids already have 3 pen pals! 😅 I asked them and they don't want to add more right now... but thank you for asking ❤ I'm sure you and the kids will find some amazing pen pals ❤
Can I ask you, how has the good and the beautiful worked out for you?? I’ve used it for the last 5 years with all my kids and now my oldest is at level 4 and he literally wakes up early to get it “out of the way” 😅🫠 it’s pretty jam packed with different concepts and games but maybe felt like it didn’t have a smooth transition from lesson to lesson. Did your kiddo do well with it? I tried math with confidence, teaching textbooks, and Saxon math for a brief few weeks but it’s SO slowed down lmao! I have no idea if it’s just me but is level 5 fine?
Hey!! I've had a great experience so far. Level 5 Math has actually been our favorite so far. I have been using TGTB now for 5 years and we've really enjoyed it but I know everyone's kids or family is different ❤️

Aww thank you! I enjoy hearing her sing ❤️
Early rising is one of the toughest parts of adulting for me. I get up between 6 -6:30.
Especially when the sun only starts coming out at 8 am here now that it's winter! So hard!!

Please be mindful not to put the ah/uh sounds at the end of the sounds. It will confuse the children as they began to blend. Like the Gg sound.
