I love the tempo. Really highlights the musicality of this duo. Gillian's wilting strumming wraps warmly around Rawling's soulful lines. Great, subtle vocal harmonies. Really makes me feel like I'm on a Greyhound watching New Mexico whip by outside the window. Thirty miles till the next cigarette. Warm, red landscapes. Purple hazy paper-mache mountains in the distance.
Great song by Bob Dylan, a modern day Billy the Kid, free spirit who called his shots as he saw them, glad he's still doing his thing, life not cut short by the system.
Those riffs at 3:20 and 4:40! David is a magician. His guitar magic is a match for her voice magic. God bless and keep them both. But I'm being selfish because I want to keep listening to and watching them for a long time.
a truly beautiful version of this song - it captures all of it's spirit and sensuality. I have been listening to this album for the past 40 years, Dylan's album was released with the movie in 1973, and it's timeless beauty has been with for all the way. Love this version, well done !
An excellent performance and a nice flow for a great song from Bob Dylan, and from an album that deserves more recognition. Also, to me, from an artist who has always made us all feel forever young with his great music. Songs that are also just "forever" timeless. It is so nice to see hidden classics like this brought to light again and given their just due.
I saw them in seattle, about 14 years ago, at the crocodile cafe, a very cool underground club in seattle, has anybody out there been there? At the time the whole place was black, with a bar in the back, not fancy by no means, but very cool!!! it was standing room only with just a few chairs up aganst the wall, and it was packed, shoulder to shoulder, the room where they played was very small, with a small stage, and we all stood there for about a hour and a half, as gillian play her very SLOW songs, I love every second of it, and so did every body else, but it just seemed so out of place for her to sing those slow Deep Dark Songs, with that very old mountian bluegrass sound, playing right there in a city that brought out the sound of Pearl Jam, and Nirvava, I keeped wondering were did all these people come from, but her music will keep you spell bound.
This is from their DVD ... I've always loved this song but until today didn't realize it was written by Bob Dylan. These people are all genius. I stand amazed and awed :} Thanks to gojohnnygo2 for posting this gem!
right there in the cantina, just inside of the border, sun dipping, rough wooden table, smoking high, her dark hair falling, squinting at the purple hills
This song to me says "do something with your fucking Life, you are here for a purpose. Stop doing the soul destroying job that chips away at your spirit, end the shit relationship that is BBQs and beer, wake the fuck up, do one good thing and then, Then give up and let the cunts win, whoever they are but at least you have done your thing.
David Rawlings absolutely in the zone here, and he knows it, incredible feeling and technical skill.

Did this give the inspiration for their song The Trip?
I think Bob would be proud.
I agree with one comment about the original being the best, especially "Billy 4" and "Billy 7', but I really like these guys' interpretation of it.
