I started playing ME3 Multiplayer this weekend, after several months of watching Xcal do so. I know I'm late to the party, but it's this series that got me interested and it's every bit as fun as Xcal makes it look. So thanks for that Bruce!
Whats sad is that I've been playing this character since it came out. Never once did I spec it for phase disrupter! I just got a new character! Thanks for the revisit XCAL!
Well you are right about that, but you can use the scorpion between shots of your phase disruptor if timed well enough, so you can shoot your weapon while the phase disruptor has an "animation cooldown" I think xcal did that in his first slayer video, plus you can use disruptor ammo on the scorpion and everytime you get a direct hit on an enemy it procs them for a tech burst which you can detonate with your PD regardless of the targets health over and over again....
I did a game once with some random people, we had a Justicar for the Biotic Bubble specced for power damage, we had a Ex-Cerb using Smash to prime Biotic Explosions, I was a Slayer detonating the explosions and then we had a Volus to simply spam Shield Boost. We done platinum in 20 minutes.
Xcal did something very similar to that in his second Slayer video, although he used the Falcon instead of the Scorpion. He used that exact strategy: Fire the Falcon (with Incendiary Ammo) between PD shots - Proc incendiary ammo, PD fire explosions for days. Not to undermine the Scorpion too much, though. If you like that strategy (and it is frighteningly powerful), but lack a Falcon, the Scorpion is an adequate substitute. It simply isn't as effective.
Melee slayer is also pretty fun to play too. Though melee in Gold+ can be frustrating if your team is terrible, and you're expected to carry, which is usually the case.
Well it's also Bioware's fault as well because I think they just bit off more than they could chew for ME3. ME3 is twice the game ME2 is, when it comes to info in the game wise. They also had less time to develop ME3. Still though I'd be willing to wait to get a finished product than a rushed unfinished game that needs post launch patches.
It's really not bad; if you buy recruit packs to get basic guns and mods (which still have a fairly small item base) then you can get away with human and uncommon characters. You can also download all the dlc but then move it to buy everything so you'll get old stuff but faster, and then move it back into the game's directory (but only if you're on PC).
The Scorpion has pretty much been usurped by the Acolyte. The Acolyte is an on-demand stagger (at least for non-boss enemies), it strips their shields for max damage from weapons/powers, and it's fantastic for applying ammo powers(ex. Incendiary ammo for Fire Explosions). The Scorpion is by no means bad, but on a class like this there's no compelling reason to use it over something like the Acolyte or Falcon.
So true about Vanguards that it hurts. I remember several times even my MELEE wouldn't respond immediately, hell sometimes my hits would go right through an enemy without doing a smidge of damage! Quickly I wised up and decided to just use Nova instead.
like the volus adept 66644 or 66653 orb for recharge speed and charge for weapon damage + shield boost for survivability reegar+incendiary and you're good to go
If only. No, they only take the increase from the base value. So if you're doing say 100 damage and have a 15% equip amp, you'll add 15 damage to total up to 115 damage. Then you add a 30% rail amp, you'll add 30 more damage from the original 100 damage, not 34.5 (which would be from 115). There's a class builder in the Bioware forums to see how things stack up and see exactly how much extra damage you're doing, but unfortunately I cannot post the link here.
Quick question for anyone that happens to read this: what's the order in which bonuses are applied? For instance, suppose I'm using the stock Human Adept with Alliance Training spec'd for power damage. That gives 35% increase. Then, I put on Adaptive War Amp V for 15%. Next, I add Power Amplifier III for 30% and the Pistol Power Amp V for 15%. My question is if the amps all take the value for their final damage from the default strength of the biotic power, or if they stack.
Might be a weird question but I can't remember if this was the case with bayonets and omni-blades too, but do the SMG and Pistol power amps function all the time, or only when you have that gun out?
They will buff the hell out of him, the balance change guy made a thread just on the talon merc trying to explain how they failed with him and he is a "niche" character, then hundreds of people continued to point out that his damge sucks and he is buggy, complaining= buff, but in this case i think its def justified.
do you enjoy the suppressor pistol? not sure if you mentioned it or not before. its pretty funny standing right next to an enemy and shooting it right in the head and watching it just derp there and not pay attention to you.
Hey Bruce, what are your thoughts on the reverted Acolyte? Once upon a time, you wished for it to be a slow-firing, charge-less weapon, but it sounds like here there's a bunch of things that you can do to cheese?
Xcal, who do you think would be the best 4 characters in the game to beat platinum the fastest, like which 4 would work off each other the best to make it as smooth as possible?
Watching this gameplay makes me think about how ME3 was at release. The MP is totally different now from launch. Just showing how Bioware was pressed to meet deadlines which is why the ending was so bad. EA ruining games for profits
Does your acolyte charge up? I heard you can switch it to the non charge delay version on pc and it seems that way in this vid. I hate that they restored it, kinda nerfed now. If you play power classes that is.
i wonder if xcal ever got burned out on this game and then got back into it, i played this game for the first few monts, then took a decent break and came back and maxed my manifest then got sick of it again.....continued to rage with fps pvp and now came back again because its way more chill to play.
Most of the Lingo is basic RPG talk like A.O.E. is Area of effect and what not. A lot of power builds spec for AOE to control crowds like this guys phase disrupter.
i would love to get into this game, but they have added so much into it that it makes it hard for new players to play due to the pokemon packet store system
The only reason they had less time though is because EA puts a deadline out. i would have gladly waited more time for a game that wasn't rushed but we just have to deal with what we get I suppose.
I agree, youre dead if you get collectors but i had a really good time using him on platinum against reapers and cerberus. You just should try to avoid geth-primes. :P but against the other enemys he feel really viable. (excuse my english :/)
How on EARTH are you firing that phase off so fast after using it? Mine literally takes at least another second, yours is right away......without being able to get it off so quickly the hero seriously sucks!
I love these old me3 vids, even if no one sees this, have a great day
Still playing and still using these videos for build ideas.
The amount of time I used to play this game and watch these vids in high school is insane lmao
I never get tired of watching Xcal play Mass Effect. I honestly prefer these videos to all his other videos.
I never miss a XCal ME3 vid. The best demos for kickass builds on TH-cam.

Yep it has; they had changed it's mechanics for a brief while to try and prevent rocket glitchers.
I'm nominating Xcal as the most informative and entertaining TH-camr of every year, cuz really, we all know the score.

The Volus will forever remain the best thing about Mass Effect.
they're banners for achievement - you can check yours by logging into bioware social's N7HQ page by completing certain challenges.
The new horror ad for evil dead scared the ever living shit out of me
not even 480p and still watching
Melee slayer is also pretty fun to play too. Though melee in Gold+ can be frustrating if your team is terrible, and you're expected to carry, which is usually the case.
so the mass effect story is actually a documentry about bruces great great grand children

Hydra plus slayer and volus over by LZ = a lot of fun sniping with phase disrupter
the melee on this guy is badass.
Good luck with building your manifest! You'll need it.
i did use this class along with a buddy who was a paladin on glacier; to say the least, we felt guilty afterwards
like the volus adept 66644 or 66653
orb for recharge speed and charge for weapon damage + shield boost for survivability
reegar+incendiary and you're good to go
I meant that it can only hit a certain number of people in one burst. But I don't know, I've always found Flamer too awkward for my uses.

i dont know whether i hate or love just u make all look so damn easy ur a boss man great vid
Slayer is one of my favorites def trying this out
I've probably spent more time watching Bruce play ME3 MP than actually playing it myself :P
Love your Mass Effect 3 MP videos :)
Why did they change the acolyte back to the old way with the charge up? I didn't actually get a chance to use it when they changed it.
Still like the Falcon more, got more reliable stagger and can apply disruptor ammo like nobodies business.
damn, i had no idea phase disruptor wasn't considered a biotic power
Aw, dammit. I feared that would be the case, but thanks for responding anyways.
Please keep posting ME 3 Multiplayer!

Not a mass effect player so it sounds like foreign language but i love me some xcal!
THX Xcal, love ME3 vids!
Never stop posting this...

My 20 year old cousin was watching with me.
He didn't understand a word Bruce was saying.
I never could get the hang of phase disruptor, I was always a bigger fan of the biotic slash,
Hey Bruce, what are your thoughts on the reverted Acolyte? Once upon a time, you wished for it to be a slow-firing, charge-less weapon, but it sounds like here there's a bunch of things that you can do to cheese?

You need to be the host in order for the biotic charge to not glitch as much.
The funny thing is it usually does. Even he must be tired if it.
does a 1 phase disruptor do more damage than a siege pulse?
Watching this gameplay makes me think about how ME3 was at release. The MP is totally different now from launch. Just showing how Bioware was pressed to meet deadlines which is why the ending was so bad. EA ruining games for profits
I'm new to Mass Effect, so do any of you guys think all three of them for 60$ is a good deal? I'm thinking about it but idk yet
Err...so why does xcal always heavy melee cancel the launcher at the beginning of each match?
Slayer with a wraith is my favorite classnow.
Does your acolyte charge up? I heard you can switch it to the non charge delay version on pc and it seems that way in this vid. I hate that they restored it, kinda nerfed now. If you play power classes that is.
I thought weapon mods had multiplicative damage bonuses so you should actually be getting a lot more than 90% extra power damage i think.
i wonder if xcal ever got burned out on this game and then got back into it, i played this game for the first few monts, then took a decent break and came back and maxed my manifest then got sick of it again.....continued to rage with fps pvp and now came back again because its way more chill to play.
I've got a volus vanguard, but have no idea to spec him right. I know what to do for the other volus, but not the protector. How should I build? :P
Seeing this in my sub box makes me happy. (:
I would like to know Xcal's favorite classes as well
reading the comments below, feeling confused as hell, aint played me3 mp since the first week of release am I to late to understand it???
Does Xcal have like a top five me3 mp characters list or something?
Do the SMG/Pistol power amps stack or does only the active weapon one count?
So he knows when to cut each epsiode. when the match starts for commentary etc
Volus Vanguard + Slayer Vanguard = Unlimited Power!!!
Does shield boost count as a biotic or tech ability?
Most of the Lingo is basic RPG talk like A.O.E. is Area of effect and what not. A lot of power builds spec for AOE to control crowds like this guys phase disrupter.
Question. As a n00b ME player how do you get those backgrounds on the screen at the start?
Is mental focuser rare or uncommon? Cause I have most of the rares 5, but my uncommons are low :(
Been looking forward to this! :D
i would love to get into this game, but they have added so much into it that it makes it hard for new players to play due to the pokemon packet store system

was the acolyte always a charge weapon?
i want this class so much!
I think Flamer has a hitcap, but I don't know.
dude I played a game with you and had no idea it was you
Thanks for the advice.
Being the host.
Do both of the power amplifiers from the weapons with
What do you think this is?
What are your favourite characters Xcal?
wonder how many hours hes put into this game?
this class is awesome!
I agree, youre dead if you get collectors but i had a really good time using him on platinum against reapers and cerberus. You just should try to avoid geth-primes. :P but against the other enemys he feel really viable.
(excuse my english :/)
this dude is just so lag dependent, like most vanguards, that I rarely end up using them. it's a shame, cuz this looks fun as hell.
i think he should do live streams.
Gold viable, not so much on platinum. It doesn't kill boss units fast enough.
Getting collectors on this class will get you killed pretty easily.
Why didnt you use the scorpion with him? tired of it?
I named my slayer Dark Donkey
just had my first 200k+ game using this guy because my i had a volus on me the whole game
How on EARTH are you firing that phase off so fast after using it? Mine literally takes at least another second, yours is right away......without being able to get it off so quickly the hero seriously sucks!
Also, if you need advise, tips etc. go to social.bioware.c*om (remove *). There is a very active community on the forums there.
Yeah... totally made to look like a nub ... I was the TSent/ADAS, IIRC I was seeing how it fared against the Falcon (my normal weapon on the TSent).
so there wont be a giant doo doo stain on his characters back.
where's waldo dude? havent been paying attentions brahs
I hate that this is the one vanguard I don't have.
I don't think so
Do even prefer it to your constant BSN comments about how the volus are supreme?
lmao, gotta always read the fine print.
