The mosquito was produced in the Facilities that the GSG is still produced . When GSG started producing the pistol for themselves they changed a few things in the manufacturing process to increase reliability . They did the same thing with the gsg 1911 and sig 1911 it wasn’t a secret relationship with the companies like the relationship with Walther and all the licensed products they produced
I have to stop you right there buddy. when Sig decided that they weren't making enough money off of the mosquito, they told the factory that was making all of them. The German sporting guns Group, AKA, GSG, that they can take all the machinery and make all the guns they wanted. "Because nobody wants to buy them."
I think the biggest difference between the two that was not mentioned in the video, is that the Mosquito's frame was plastic, while the Firefly now is available with both plastic and metal frames. Not sure when GSG started making metal-framed version (and the metal is not aluminum alloy as on the P226, but same ZAMAK/zinc alloy/pot metal as the slide). It'll make the gun feel more like the 226, but since Mosquito/Firefly was designed to be 90% the size of 226, you still can't use 226's grips :)
I purchased the firefly while searching for a mosquito. The store owner told me that Sig didn't have the contract with GSG anymore and that GSG made them for Sig the whole time. It's the exact same gun made at the exact same place as always only has a lower price and it's real manufacturer's name.
Thanks for watching Will. That is what we were trying to show in the video as well so people didn't pay so much more money just for the Sig name on the side.
GSG doesnt make real guns. GSG is an airsoft company/brand that also sells .22s to the civilian market made by a sister company. GSGs .22s guns are made by a company called Umarex. They also make the M&P-22, HK 416-22, Sig 1911-22, Colt M4-22, Sig/Kimber branded 1911-22 conversion slide, Sig Mosquito, and UZI .22s. Umarex also made the GSG5 and GSG522 that are both discontinued. As well as the GSG .22 AK and .22 STG42 clones that arent made anymore.
@@Lonewolf6565 no, GSG has always manufactured the Sig Mosquito, and Sig branded it. Policy changed in Sig and they stopped purchasing the Sig Mosquito from GSG. GSG in turn rebranded it the firefly to continue to be sold.
I love my gsg firefly. Even with spring change, it still likes the high velocity ammo. The cheap federal (American Eagle) doesn't do well in this gun. Even good 22 ammo is cheap though. Awesome gun!! It runs thunderbolt all day long after break in.
I like what I saw, but at full volume on my laptop I couldn't hear you. To me the audio is important might want to check your audio pick up and possibly replace it or boost the volume on your end.
You could have proved your point of they are the same gun by swapping the slides and magazines with each gun and reassemble them as they are built by the same company on the same press.
Les Watkins thanks for the input. If I do a future video I will definitely add that clip. Just for the curious minded I checked it out after you asked and they most definitely do swap between frame and slide. I did not try shooting them swapped out however so I will still need to check that out one day.
Nice video boys. I really liked the reassembly. I've been looking for a 22LR to train myself with my Sig 226 and 229. I just picked up a Kadet slide conversion kit for my CZSP01. I just couldn't find a 75/85 Kadet II kit which would've been more interchangeable with my 75C and P01. I've got a lot of ammo layed down, but I don't feel like going through it at my range. I've really got a jones for 22 pistols after enjoying my Ruger 10/22 so much, assassinating squirrels. It's a whole new caliber for me.
Can the gsg slide fit on the sig mosquito lower ?? Please get back to me. For I have a sig mosquito and sadly my slide broke and can’t fid a replacement slide for my mosquito and would rather just purchase another slide for the gun rather than retiring my pistol 🔫. Appreciate you
The SIG version was designed and manufactured by GSG as SIG decided to dump the brand - GSG was shocked and knowing it is a quality - reliable pistol for continued ownership and purchased the licensing rights to rebrand it under GSG... GSG did make improvements over the Mosquito - aware of the problems that customers had... seeing the 5,000 round test and other test ranges from 500 to a few thousand rounds with only some bad ammo and it is important to know that GSG recommends 1,200 fps or higher for greater reliability and smooth shooting don't use subsonic ammo or below 1,200 fps.
Greg Brown awesome to hear. We recently found out that gemtech subsonic 22lr will actually cycle through a suppressed firefly. Maybe a follow up video soon on that!
I own 2 Sig Mosquitos. The Sig Mosquito comes with 2 recoil springs - both are for different ammo velocity - whether it's hi velocity ammo vs lower velocity ammo. Does the Firefly come with 2 recoil springs with the same velocity's offerings?? I noticed at the GSG Firefly gun website you can purchase the replacement recoil spring. I need to replace my Mosquito recoil springs as they are all worn out & I cannot purchase them thru Sig anymore. Question: is this replacement spring hi velocity or regular - lower velocity? AND can I use the Firefly recoil spring in my Mosquito? Thank You. SINCERELY. I just subed & liked.
They do come with 2 springs. These springs will fit mosquito as they are same gun. I believe the white spring is what i run. I can shoot thunderbolt all day long.
kenneth risner they fit. They are the same piece, made in the same factory on the same machines. Sig decided to stop selling the mosquito and sold the rights to German Sporting Guns and low and behold GSG already manufactured the gun for Sig. GSG made a few minor updates in manufacturing to it to improve reliability and costs to manufacture. Still 99% the same gun. I have personally shot both a Mosquito with a Firefly slide and barrel and vise-versa. Both ran flawlessly
I was thinking about getting the mosquito a while back bu then founf it was ammo picky and mostly was reliable when only shooting cci minimag all other ammo is a gamble i also like it because its just a slighlty downscaled p226
The Mosquito and Firefly are very picky on ammo and they don't like the bulk boxed ammo at all. The only reason they discontinued the Mosquito in my opinion is so they can now sell the full sized 229 in a 22LR for a higher price than the Mosquito sold for. The Mosquito, however was very close being only 90% of the size of a 226. All a money game I suppose.
Question for you have you ever swapped the barrels out? I am curious if I can swap my wife's sig barrel out with a threaded gsg barrel. Dont want to buy barel if it wont fit. I know they are made by the same people just figured you have both maybe you have tryed it before
they are the same gun made in the same place got my sgs for 180$ love the gun 1 brick of thunderbolt and only two. miss feads then a othere 250 then got light strikes then after a cleaning no problem
These things will actually feed quite a variety of ammo once broken in but the ones we tested (off camera) seemed to like high velocity ammo in the beginning. With all ammo and firearms, each one has a perfect match and each one have enemies that just do not get along. Age of the ammo and cleanliness of the weapon are also determining factors. Thank you for watching!
@@tacticalminimalist743 I have found a few that seem to work well without any problems so far.... federal and even cheap Winchester wildcat seem to run great in it
They do make a few different color options as well as a threaded and non threaded model. There is little to no cost difference between the colors and even getting one with a threaded barrel vs. non threaded so I would recommend the threaded in case you decide in the future to get a suppressor since the barrel is on the frame you can't just swap later for a threaded barrel. They make them in FDE (used in the video), OD Green, and Black and have threaded and non threaded versions of each color.
Tactical Minimalist I was looking in my book it came with..The front sight is on the slide where it is on the silencer version and doesn't have the extended cover on the end like the sport version....it's the standard version..Im a dumbass..lol ..just realized it looking at the book..

If you would like to donate the money for me to buy a non threaded version you are more than welcome and we will shoot a new video :)

Run a few hundred rounds of CCI AR Tactical and the gun will be polished. Then it will eat almost anything.
