@@elgusaniiiodeljuego6823Mostly it was the fact that he enjoyed and liked the Brazilian hospitality, soo much so that he told the Germans to slow down out of respect
Obviously they were overwhelmed by the pressure, playing at home. Very, very, very obviously. Losing two of their best players was not the reason. They very visibly fell apart, in exceedingly extraordinary fashion. And something was obviously very wrong, as this video quite naturally alludes to. Why would they, or any team at all let alone a world power like Brazil, fall apart so utterly, in a way that was like having a nervous emotional breakdown right there on the field for all to see, rendering them effectively dysfunctional and almost in a state of shock after falling behind early in the match? Who knows for sure, but I would say it was the pressure of playing at home. Definitely not on account of the loss of any particular player, including the overrated Neymar. Germany would not have beaten New Zealand by that score, or Armenia. Or anyone. So that's the reason. A collective collapse of their basic functionality as a team, on account of the pressure of playing at home. To repeat, Germany would not have beaten USA's B team 7-1. And Brazil's team that day, even without Neymar and Thiago Silva, would still be one of the best in the world. So it was tragic, watching that happen. I don't give a shit about Brazil, they're the greatest soccer nation in the world, and need no pity. So to see that happen to them, in truly breathtaking, bizarre fashion, was appalling. Maybe it's because they no longer play the beautiful game, that was karma from the soccer gods....
Neymar would have been booked a red card after 2 simulations. Back then football wasn't a comedy or Hollywood drama diving. Which Germany proved. Neymar wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes on the field with his attitude.
Nah, they would have gotten spanked anyways. Just not 7-1. Maybe 5-2 or something. Neymar had no real defensive attributes and did nothing in 2014 that would suggest he could neutralize a counter, which was the German's preferred way to score goals. If they were able to mostly lock Messi down in the final, Neymar was not going to fare much better.
(As Brazilian Fan) we’ll never know, but say even if we had the best starting x11 and made the best subs. We prob still would lose by 2 goals, because Germany 🇩🇪is the greatest ever nation to create chances to score. Even still Brazil 🇧🇷 could make a miraculous effort and win it. But whatever happened has happened
@@rafaelrohban8447 ofcoure it was bad for Brazil but still, Germany was just a menace back then… I don’t believe these 2 players could have stopped Germany but they may have been able to make the outcome less embarrassing for Brazil
I'd argue it wasn't actually the loss of Neymar's skills that was the biggest hit, but the loss of morale the whole team faced playing without their superstar. Though THAT German team would have probably clapped them even on their best day, but it wouldn't have been nearly this humiliating.
Let’s not forget Dante was coming off a treble winning season with Bayern Munich where he was there starting center back. Facing 5 of his teammates in this match ( Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Müller ) and one former teammate in Kroos
I also think how the attack in 2014 was so focused on Neymar, his injury really affected them. The whole team just looked lost against the Defence was absolutely shocking and the attack was blunt.
It wouldn't have made a major difference. That's the thing because if you only rely on 1 superstar, you will still not be able to win championships. Look at PSG - this team is like a cheat code but who won the CL - not them!
In my opinion that Brazil got really lucky with brackets. Theywere not semi finals worthy. Still withNeymarand Silva they probablylose to germany by 4:2.
Attributing the defeat solely to the absence of the Brazilians' two top stars is a bit one-sided. Of course, any sensible person will assume that the German team's victory would at least have been less high. But: If you look at the very first goal - a corner kick - it is a simple positioning error: two German players cross paths and David Luis loses Müller's guard. This goal would have been scored regardless of whether the two stars had been there. The other goals can (also) be attributed to mistakes made by individuals (especially Fernandinho and Luis). So it's not just a collateral failure of the team. And Neymar would probably have managed just as much on offense as Messi did in the final - namely nothing (due to strong guarding by 2 German defenders, even though he didn't play centrally). How many shots did Messi take on the German goal in the final? Extremely few. The absence of two players hardly excuses anything: A coach has to ensure that the team performs well even if important players are missing. That's what training is for and friendly games are for. A World Cup is not just a series of games but, from the coach's point of view, a "marathon" during which a lot can happen. It is the coach's job to train the team so that as many line-up variations as possible lead to good team performance. If a coach relies on a few lineups or even a few individual players for the team's success, their absence will produce a correspondingly negative result. It is obvious that the German team had a healthy mix of older (experienced) and younger players, but Brazil did not. In addition: a player who already has a yellow card also has the responsibility to ensure that he is not missing in the next game. the yellow card that led to da Silva's suspension arose from a situation of no necessity. If he had prevented a goal with the foul, that would be understandable, but it was a cheap, unnecessary attack on a goalkeeper. And as for Neymar specifically, his goals in the tournament could even more atributed to goalkeepers who aren't world class. Manuel Neuer would have kept some of them. For example, the video also shows Neymar's extremely bad penalty, which only ends up in the goal with luck.
My thoughts, as a brazilian: This team was subpar considering what we can usually output in terms of performance. Exemplifying this is the prior games in the WC against Chile in the Ro16 and Colombia in the quarters. Don't get me wrong, they had decent teams, especially colombia, but historically these are teams that don't pose much of a threat against Brazil, pretty much ever. Yet in that world cup Chile almost sent us packing with a ball to the post while the victory against colombia was the product of a work of miracle by Luiz. For Brazil, games against teams like these should NOT be THIS close. I still remember after that quarter final was over, and the tv hosts talking about how Germany was the next opponent, and I couldn't help but feel like: 'uh oh' We just needed blood sweat and tears to beat colombia of all teams (nothing against them ofc) and then were about to face a team that was not only stronger than colombia, but also without our best defender and attacker. Combine to that the fact that felipão decided to put Bernard, an attacking midfielder, exposing even more the already weak defense that was lacking Silva, all that for no good reason other than having him play in Belo Horizonte with the national team, as he was a player from a club from that very city. This didn't just lost us the midfield, it completely handed it over in a silver platter. Some tactically savy journalists were already spelling doom since Chile but they were largely ignored because it seemed like pessimism. Everyone was still running on the Confederations 2013 high when brazil beat a fragile spain in the final. Then there's the insane media pressure everyone knows about which is customary for brazilian national teams. Pele, after already winning two back-to-back world cups in 58 and 62 said, upon winning his THIRD in 1970, that the only thing he felt after the 1970 final was over was relief, knowing he wouldn't be judged. PELE, of all people. For the brazilian NT, anything but first place is a failure and it has deep psychological effects even on those who are some of the greatest talent of all time I appreciated the background music lol
Thank you for providing your perspective! You're very mature about it, which is not easy at all. I don't want to examine painful moments in my country's sports history but you are providing inspiration for me to face them. It's probably difficult for the rest of the world to understand how much not winning the World Cup means to Brazilians. I'm trying to think of an equivalent in another sport. It used to be the Americans who totally dominated in basketball and baseball, but it's still not the same because not that many other countries are deeply emotionally invested in these sports. It seems like an unrealistic expectation for Brazil to win the Cup every time. The next most successful countries are Germany and Italy, but I don't think that they or their fans assume they will win every time. There's a channel called "HITC Sevens" which just made a video on the Brazilian national team, and the challenges it faces. There are a lot of factors that are completely outside the control of Brazilian players and coaches such as the very high salaries players can earn in the Premier League, resulting in fewer Brazilian national team members playing their club football in Brazil. Right now, the economics don't favour Brazil, but that does not mean things cannot change in the future. A few months ago, the same channel made a video on Germany's national team, which has a title like "the shocking downfall". 🫠
You can never win with a superstar himself. You have to have a team. And whatching the german team was like a watching a creature. They new how to walk, how to stay, they had an understanding between each other. This was like a machine working together. This is how you win and not to focus on one or two players. The team has to work.
I find it a bit interesting that people are pointing out Brazil depending too much on a "star player" and basing their strategy around that person. They seem to forget that Argentina had Lionel Messi and even he wasn't enough to stop the German onslaught!
@@largol33t12 unfortunately there were many old-timers in 2014's Argentina NT that should not have been there in my (and many other argentinians') opinion. 2018 was an absolute debacle, a disaster worth making a video essay too, but then in 2022 when we finally got our third, we did it just like the comment says: it was the team: enzo fernández, julián álvarez, lio messi all three were a powerful, deadly trident. Ottamendi and the rest of our midfield was pretty solid as well, our defense being our weakest point by far, but having El Dibu as the last wall to overcome was enough to take an extremely good (though not perfect) team to the top. At the end of the day, our team was (and still is today, I'm glad to see) a well-oiled machine.
idk Germany didn't seem to do too well in 2018 and 2022 to say the absolute least 😂😂😂 even in the 2020 Euro in between they got eliminated by the biggest international tournament chokers in the round of 16 (though to their credit unlike in 2024 England actually had a strong squad with the help of Rashford and Maguire and arguably should've won it over Italy)
@@largol33t12 Yea but Argentina drew against Germany in 90 minutes and only lost 1-0 in extra time (they could've won too if Higuain wasn't offside when Argentina scored), which is not at all the same as losing 7-1 and being down 5-0 in the opening 30 minutes lol
My analysis goes in another direction. The expectations we're so incredibly high fostered by the media and the public that they sought for the wrong strategy. Pushing for a goal, they neglected the defense and were surprisingly ill prepared against players of the quality of the German team. They were playing in a fictitous world. I'm convinced that this was due to being overwhelmed by the expectations that winning was the only possible outcome. Apart from that, a more defensive football strategy ( Dunga style ) had led to a severe crisis in Brasilian football years before. You would have to expect that Brazil would find ways to substitute somehow even a player like Neymar. They do have exceptional football players.
@Hanno franz. I agree with much you've said. The team underwent stretches of psychological torture thru out the tournament...How on earth is a squad hosting a monumental event such as the WC supposed to be mentally sound and serene while in training, hordes of locals brandished posters condemning their country's hosting rights and even verbally harassing the squad... Yes it's true. This is an event rarely mentioned (surprisingly) by the Press. And this happened thru out the tournament. I wouldn't even mention the expectations from the Press and public....The team had shown signs of cracking up from their second outing against Mexico who virtually over ran the midfield, which surely contributed in sapping the team's moral and dampening the little confidence that remained...And then, there's the knockout match against Chile which perhaps exposed Brazil 's febrility more than any other. Thiago Silva's near nervous breakdown was so livid and was a perfect embodiment of the team's state of mind, I felt sorry for him...And how many people remember he declined taken penalties after regular time, seeking refuge at the central spot?...The team just wasn't good enough...
Tim Vickery, Brazilian Football Expert, has said "Brazil could have played Germany 99 times and lost. They lost 7-1 because of the occasion of a World Cup semi and what it meant to the players and the nation". I have also heard him say that when Brazil go out of a World Cup, it is like a death in the family.
The main problem was that Brazil had been given a run of soft fixtures designed to lead to a Brazil : Argentina final. That is why you got Germany: France in a quarter final while Brazil were playing Columbia. Up to this point Brazil’s toughest game had been against Croatia which they had won via a classic piece of home crowd refereeing while they faced a Germany side that had beaten both Portugal and France and were up for a tough game against 12 men. The surprise wasn’t that Germany won easily, that had been on the cards since the group stages. The surprise was just how catastrophically Brazil went to pieces after the second goal.
I disagree. Brazil had a tough route to the final. Their group was definitely not easy as each team had talented squads. Cameroon ended up flopping but Mexico was consistent as usual and Croatia was unlucky to get eliminated that early. Then Chile and Colombia were extremely strong opponents, especially since this World Cup was in South America. Brazil’s toughest game was against Colombia and credit to Brazil, they actually played up to their potential in that match.
@@thefootballbloc tough? Brazil certainly made it look tough even though it was the easiest route to the Semi of any of the 4 sides, even Argentina had to play a second rank European side. Germany had a group with 2 other sides in it ranked higher than any team in Brazil’s group. France had to play Spain in the group stages. Italy and England were in the same group. But you are trying to claim a group of 3 teams who don’t book hotels for week 3 and Brazil was “challenging”. You are quite right Croatia were unlucky to go out that early which shows just how easy that group was. Chile and Columbia were what they always were teams who ought to have gone out by the end of the second round at best. The problem was always that to get an Argentina vs Brazil final both had to play good European sides in the semifinals. Argentina were good enough that their 12th man could prevent humiliation Brazil weren’t. They went on to lose 3-0 to the Netherlands. On a properly seeded even draw Brazil would have gone out in the round of 16.
@@davidwright7193 stop talking shit dude. Germany had difficulty with Algeria. there are no easy selections. you don't know anything about football. even more to say that about Colombia, which has already defeated several giants.
@@davidwright7193 WTF are you saying. You are talking about Modric, Brozovic, Perisic, Mandzukic and Rakitic's Croatia. Their old version just knocked out Brazil. If that World Cup had no surprises, Brazil would have faced one of 2010's finalists in the second round, then a relevant World Champion. The reason we had Chile was because they beat no other than current champions Spain. And then Colombia got there by facing the best among the 3 Champions.
I think even with Neymar and Silva we would have lost, but not 7-1. Germany 2014 was the best national team at that time, literally no one could get in their way

I’m not well versed in football but I remember watching this game and just wondering how that defense looked like it was sleepwalking. While Neymar’s absence definitely had an effect, I would say that Silva’s absence was the much bigger detriment. Without a solid back line, it was honestly painful to see Caesar practically being exposed at goal numerous times. Any half way decent striker could have replaced Neymar and I think done okay. But without a strong defense, there was no way the Brazil team could hold any real ground against strong offensive teams like Germany. And once that defense collapsed, it was game over.
Partially it was lacking players but it was also that the Germans turned the lights off. After that second goal falls so quickly you can litterrally see the spirit go out in the Brazilian players. They simply could not accept what was happening
Yea it would've been a much more interesting and closer game if those two were present in the game. Germany probably would've still won but not my more than 2 goals.
you spoke out of my soul! So many guys said, that Brasil was so good back then, but I realized early that Neymar and the Home World Cup were the only arguments for Brasil as Cup winner. The luck as well as ref decisions as against croatia, which they received, let it appear even clearer
Been a fan of the national team since childhood, I don't understand how they went from being consistent bronze/silver medal winners to champions and then completely spiraled since. Makes me sad tbh.
@@mcanty and Germany was arguably the 2nd best team in the tournament, losing only to Spain which was the best one. England on the other hand shouldn't have gone past the round of 16, let alone the finals.
Scolari made a big mistake by not selecting players who were in the best form, he should have selected Miranda and Filipe Luis from Athletico Madrid who had an excellent season, Coutinho and even Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaka would have been better than the midfield selected. Even Lucas Moura and Rafinha was overlooked, Germany defence were exposed by Algeria in Round of 16. Dunga should have continued as the Brasil Coach.
I agree with you until you said Dunga should've stayed. Dunga's Brazil was extremely subpar and they struggled in CONMEBOL Qualifying, they were eliminated by Paraguay at the 2015 Copa America Quarterfinals and in the group stage of the 2016 Copa Centenario. His squad selections were very questionable as well.
Dunga was way worse. He didn't include Ronaldinho in the 2010 squad, what makes you think he would take Ronaldinho to the 2014 WC. Pato, Adriano, Ronaldinho, Neymar no one was selected. Even though Neymar was playing good at that time , pele and Romario urged to take him he didn't. 14000 people signed a petition to include Neymar in the WC squad, he said Neymar was not tested enough for World Cup. But Grafite was in the squad who played his first match under dunga in March, 2010. His achievement was he scored 28 goals for Wolfsburg in the 2008-2009 Bundesliga. He has only 4 caps for Brazil. I guess when it comes to left back position Marcelo, Filipe Luis, Maxwell these names comes to mind.....but do you know who was in the starting xi at LB ....Michel Bastos. He was not even a defender , he was a left winger. He played his first match under dunga in October 2009. He only has 10 caps for Brazil. Both Grafite and Michel Bastos never played for Brazil again. Imo biggest mistake of scolari was ignoring Diego costs. If you can start for Spain at the WC ahead of David villa and Torres, then I think you are good enough to start for Brazil. The opposite can't be said about Fred. I think Fred and Jo won't even make the Spain Squad. 2010 was the worst squad in the last 20 years.
@@thefootballbloc Dunga is better than Scolari. 2015 and 2016 copa were rebuilding phase of Brazil. They were without Neymar too in both tournaments. Brazil sacked Dunga after 2010. Dunga or Menezes will not allow a disaster like 7-1.
Weren't the Germans told to play seriously in the 2nd half despite being 5-0 up by the end of the 1st half? But for some reason the media twisted it into, let's not go all out on the 2nd half to not humiliate the host even further.
Germany didn't hold back. That is a myth. Jogi Löw told them to not show off and keep it to the game plan. Here's a quote from Khedira: "Jogi said to us: 'Great! But the game is not over yet. If I see anybody messing around, I'll take him off immediately’,” Khedira told Sport Bild. “He took the euphoria completely out of the question, and said: ‘We are starting again at 0-0 and I want us to win the second half as well’.
Very true. Brazil benefitted from good luck and the home advantage along the way. That being said, their performance against Colombia in the Quarterfinals was legitimately a good performance.
@@thefootballblocgood performance? All they did was foul the whole team, bought the referee and got one legitimate goal taken down, they were in shambles against Colombia who wasn't really going to ever win the cup.
This is Clovis Fernandes, a Brazilian fan who has watched every WC game his country has played since 1990. He has been to 3 WC finals for Brazil, 2 of which were won, the last one in 2002 in Yokohama - against Germany. He has experienced more than any other fan, he was able to cheer twice with his country in Pasadena and Yokohama, which is more than any other fan has experienced in his entire life. Germany still had a score to settle with Brazil. Unfortunately it was the last WC for Clovis, he passed away in 2015.
After the 2nd goal, the Brazilian team was totally lost on the field. Not taking anything away from Germany but only their first couple of goals needed some efforts, rest all were gifts.
yes... the Brasil-Defense was like a wild Chicken-House... but only Silva never could change that too... the Germans was just to fast and furious, nobody of them was selfish, always they was looking for the better replaced Team-Mate.
That's a great idea! That was one of the most puzzling matches in Copa America history, Mexico went into the match in flying form meanwhile Chile were playing subpar despite being reigning champions. And yet, Chile win 7-0.
Brazil do not have best players anymore like they used to. i remember their best players like Ronaldo, Denison, Cafu, Roberto Calos, Bebeto, Ronaldino, Kaka etc...But their players, except Neymar and Thiago, are empty containers that have no value!!
Idk much about football, but when I was watching the plays before the goals, I noticed the Brazilians seem to just stand around like they didn't want to play/win or something
The Brasilian Taktik to defend extremely high was the greatest fault. German players said in interviews after the game that they knew after 5 minutes that they would win this game.
@@johnlemon2916 Well what coach wouldn't win with a team consisting of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Kaka, Cafu, etc. The two coaches before him were also at the World Cup final and won one in the previous 2 world cups in the USA and France! Watching this game live was like a fever dream. You turn away from the TV screen for a minute and there is the next score already. I wasn't even sure if it was just a replay of the last one. That was crazy match.
My view abort the 7-1 loss is also a contribution of strong moral of players in Germany and had some legendary players like Thomas müller, kroos, klose and probrobly the best goal keeper neuer.
Talking about how amazing Germanies 2014 team, would you like to discuss what happened to Germanies 2018 team? Always thought the 2018 team were almost as good as the 2014's, but we all know what happened. So it was a huge shock for me
No Hansi flick he was the assistant coach and main reason behind Germany winning the wc he left and their chemistry was over low didn't have good relationship with players he benched players like Muller
The 2018 match was 2-0, not that much humiliation I would say. Not 7-1. Sometimes even the underdog can take out a major team. But the Brazilian match was definitely a total humiliation, especially since Brazil was the host. However most of us around the world was excited to see Brazil lose in FATALITY manner since they were so cocky.
The team just didn't have the chemistry anymore players like Schweinsteiger Klose and Lahm where gone. Adding onto that where Löws tactics he played a very slow game which didn't work out well in 2018 for some reason. Perhaps the biggest reason was what happened of the pitch players did more sponsor meetings and press appearances than training mainly because of the shattered image that the team had before. Context: Özil and Gündogan made photos with Erdogan (Turkish President) shortly before the tournament that enraged many fans and even politicians in Germany talked about it because Erdogan is seen as a very controversial person in Germany. Many fans said that the two should be dropped from the team. The media/press team wanted more positive headlines and made the players do media stuff in training time. Overall all these reasons together made Germany fall in 2018.
@@sanjivanipatil7349 The winning of the WC 2014 was mainly because of the work of Jürgen Klinsmann and Hansi Flick, not because of Löw. You are right about that. Löw brought more turks into the team and devided the team and destroyed their german spirit with his strategy. Thats why sadly the 2018 bad performance can be explained.
nah Neymar was no where near as crucial as Silva for that team...yeah Neymar could have done some damages or created more chances but those defense was atrocious -_-
Let's not forget that they conceded from a lot of counters which would have tipped the scoreline to the opposite direction had their attack succeeded if Neymar had been there
It was a big problem that Neymar and Thiago Silva didn't play but it was also a bigger problem how the team reacted to their absence. Crying during the national anthem and being too emotional gave Germany a sign that Brazil is not ready for such a huge responsible game. Scolari was already old at this time and didn't have the same authority like he used to have in World Cup 2002. Brazilian team had a very wrong approach for this certain game. Maybe winning Confederations Cup 2013 gave people false hope that they're stronger than they actually were. Brazil was probably still going to lose against Germany even if Neymar and Thiago Silva have played, but at least it wouldn't have been so humiliating. Brazilian team wasn't professional enough and unfortunately they had to learn a tough lesson.
My two cents: The Brazilian team started off pretty well. The first goal by Müller was shocking but they kept going. It was the second goal by Klose which completely rattled them. They fell apart in the following minutes and never recovered. It was quite devastating to watch tbh.
2 missing Star-Players cant make a Team that weak...there are always others who can replace them well... even 2x45 minutes you change the Replacement for 2 new fresh Players....
Brazil lost their two "legs" (the captain and their number 10) in The quarter finals so, they went crawling aganst germany, they didn't had a chance, Im Brazilian and Man, that stil hurts.
Kaka was 32 in 2014 And was still playing in europe and ronaldinho who was 34 they should have been called up for the game against germany because they would have better experience than brazil squad in the game, also they would have also know how to play and can create more chances for brazil, and kaka was fit for the world cup because he showed it in ac Millan, and they could have called in lucio in for Thiago silva replacement, and they should have use Alisson or Ederson as goalkeeper.
@@thefootballbloc to be fair ederson was 21 in 2014 and he was already playing in europe and was out of the youth carrer clubs, but you could say both alisson and ederson were gifted young players like Marquinhos, and ederson is older than Marquinhos so he could have been called up, and in his 2014 season he wasnt conceding shots that much compared to julio ceser.
@@TommyRivera74 This is true, but while Ederson was in Europe at the time, he wasn't at any level of real prominence. He was at Rio Ave who finished 11th in the 2013/14 season for example. It wasn't really until late 2015 when he broke out and was signed by Benfica (where ironically, he was competing with Julio Cesar for the number 1 spot).
Kaka's presence in the field or even in the bench itself would have been a moral boost for inexperienced players in that squad. The way he performed with a mediocre AC Milan squad in that season was notable. He could have performed much better in the brazil squad in front of the home crowd. That was a big omission. The other players Scolari overlooked - Coutinho, Miranda, Felipe Luis, Lucas Moura etc. They could even play Marcelo as left winger and Felipe Luis as left back.
Brazil’s football has taken a dive in the last ~ 20 years. Neymar was never the star they were trying to sell and the rest of that team was mediocre at best, except maybe Silva. But one thing you have to give to them: they lost with 100% Brazilian players.
You missed only one key information about Felipão's appointment as manager of the Brazil national team. He was appointed on the year 2012, when the club he trained, Palmeiras, got relegated to the second division. Close to the end of the National League here too, so the man who trained the team by the time it was confirmed had little to do with what he was handed. Felipão relegates a very traditional brazilian team and gets rewarded with training the national team in the World Cup at home soil. You can't make that shit up.
@@thefootballbloc there were other reasons for it, not only bad planning. Back in 2012, right before the switch of managers, the brazilian FA president was arrested on corruption charges. The former coach wasn't an unanimity, so they let him go to hire a more popular option, who in the minds of those who only watch the World Cups, was a memory of success.
@@vortona True. This might be a hot take, but I don't think Felipao is that good of a coach. Even in 2002 (which was kind of an overrated team in my opinion), he only won because of insane individual performances from Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho etc. Often times the overall team didn't play well and also he nearly bottled qualification not to mention Felipao was the coach when Honduras eliminated Brazil at the previous Copa America.
@@thefootballbloc you are completely right. @@vortona True, it was not Brazil's fault that strange refereeing decisions knocked out Italy and Spain or that France and Argentina flopped in the group stage. Your video is completely out of balance, because you only focus on the Brazilian team and totally leave out the Germans. I'd downvote it, if I could, but sadly YT has left out this option.
In hindsight at least, Germany winning is not really a surprise, they were clearly a better team. However, Germany simply being better does not explain how Brazil, statistically the best team of all time, got utterly demolished, conceding 7 goals, on home soil. The gravity of such a defeat cannot be explained solely by looking at how good Germany was, this was more so due to failure on the part of Brazil.
Sorry, but of course it was not because of the absence of these two players. It was only the psychological pressure. They were only victims of cathedral high expectations...
The absence of Neymar and Thiago Silva along with the consequences was an issue within itself but it also metaphorically represents the larger issue which is that Brazil simply did not have a good enough squad in 2014.
So basically, Brazil was just not that good as a football team in that year and actually didn't deserve to make it that far in the tournament. But because they had one or two stars, they were able to compensate this for a while and reach the semi-final. And when they then lost their top players, they had to realize that the rest of the team really wasn't matching the skill level of their opponents.
Because they were arrogant and played as individuals not as a team the greatest beat down I’ve ever seen and it was glorious not only did they lose the most goal in World Cup history was also taken from them by Miroslav Klose.
I am an Arab, I was in the stadium at that time when I was 12 years old, with my father, we encourage Brazil! I didn't cry, I wish I did that to appear in all the game clips forever
Luiz Felipe Scolari left out several big names from the squad for the 2014 World Cup, including: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Moura, Lucas Leiva.
I am so tired of people overrating the importance of individuals. This is and always will be a TEAM sport. Yes Neymar was important for the moral, but Thiago would have improved the defence drastically, not just because he is a good defender but because he can organise and motivate. None the less, Germany was at the peak of its ambitions but more importantly, they understood each other blindly and knew exactly how to play aside one another. The Brazilians on the other hand sure do have talent, but their heads were in the clouds. They were unconcentrated and creativity was lacking because all that was dominating their heads was "We need to win this world cup" instead of concentrating on a coherrent strategy. The pressure was too great.
If David Luiz played at defensive midfield and Miranda at CB from the beginning of the tournament, the history would have changed. That 7-1 will never happen and David Luiz carrier would have saved.
The absence of Neymar and Thiago explains a lot. The brazilian defense was never essential when you got Neymar and Thiago. That's why at 0:47 one player is literally chilling out in the goal
The reason it happened was that the Brazilian team went into shock in response to the incredible flow that this German team had. It was a one off; had they played again, it would not happen like that. This very German team suffered a similar setback in the qualifying campaign in Berlin when they conceded four goals in twenty minutes against - Sweden! One cannot ascribe such an event to player form or player selection. What happens is that a team for some reason gets into a flow, where they become almost unstoppable. The only way out for the other team is to try to destroy the flow.
I'm not a fan of centering your offence one player. Ok there's lots of exceptions here (e.g. 2022 Argentina), but what will happen if that one player gets injured? For a stacked line up like Brazil with one of the richest football traditions, the 1-7 loss to Germany is unacceptable. They've got players that maybe less talented than Neymar but still talented enough to trouble Germany. Its ok if they loss 0-3 or 1-4 as Germany is too well oiled and also stacked. In the situation at hand, what the Brazil should have done is play defensive like Argentina did vs Germany in the subsequent match (thr final). Defend with everything you've got and hope your 1-2 offensive players get some offense. At the very least send the game to overtime. Argentina narrowly lost in extra time so at least Argentina avoided embarrassment. Germany deserves the 2014 championship despite me rooting for Argentina Brazil and other South Americans in world cups in general.
I agree with it completely. That is what teams usually do in major competitions when facing a superior team- defend well. Germany is far superior to the Brazil team with Silva and Neymar. I expected Brazil to play Marcelo at the left wing and another defender at left back. This was far better than playing a young inexperienced kid like Bernard on the left flank against such a strong German team. Instead of defending hardly, they were trying to become heroes by scoring a goal. Everybody wants to score a goal and dedicate it to Neymar. David Luiz is a classic example of how a central defender should not be.
A lot of people say Neymar or Thiago could have stopped Germany, but a lot of people also forget the match between Germany vs. Brazil in 2011, where Brazil lost 3 - 2, and both teams were the same as in 2014.
N.B.Brazil cannot win a World Cup at home, they lost the World Cup 2_1 against Uruguay in 1950 in the Maracana, despite a great squad. There is simply too much pressure on the Brazilian squad , it would have been better if the World Cup had been played in another country. The choices that Scolari made compounded the situation. The Brazilians were playing on emotion during the WC ,they looked absolutely terrified. They were psychologically defeated before the game started, that made Germany's task that much easier.
Philippe Coutinho was in his climax in 2014 ! It was outrages not have called him to this Cup ! Nevertheless I don’t think it would have changed the aftermath of the tournament !
As a german this match was epic. I was and i still am very happy. But i still feel so bad for the old guy with the world cup trophy. He looked so sad. Sadly he passed away in 2015.
Neymar was always an 'X' factor for Brazil. He always provides that stability and mental edge over his opponents. All hell broke lose when Brazil conceded their 2nd goal in no time and before they recovered, they conceded another 4 goals within a short span of 6 minutes. Pressure and huge expectations of playing at their home played on them. Absence of their prime defender Thiago was also running on the back of their mind. That day, this team didn't look like Brazil. No one saw Brazil lose so badly in 100 years. Everyone was shell shocked. As a forever Brazil fan, I pray that I don't have to see such dismal performance from my team ever again in my lifetime.
it seems bro has traumas with the greatest national team ever 🇧🇷😭 how many goals did we score against your country bro? Probably many because you're so Salty 😭😭
I didn’t think Brazil was that great back in 2014 and honestly the fact that they lost that bad showed their faults and the fact that they weren’t that good. Would’ve loved to have seen Columbia be Germany instead
I feel like you cannot ignore the excellence of Germany for this win. Was Brazil bad ? Yes. But the German team of 2014 was simply otherworldly. There was not a single a bad player on that team. They had 2 deep runs in previous world cups under their belts and had perhaps the most cohesive unit of that World Cup. For Germany that was a generational group of football players that had been ages like fine wine. Brazil had no business being there and even with Neymar they still would have been ejected .

@@saiyanbrother5659 Well, Felipao really wanted to maintain the team that won the 2013 Confederations Cup all three players weren't part of that squad. Obviously, Kaka's career took a steep decline at Real Madrid due to injury and those injuries continued even as he went back to AC Milan in the season leading up to the World Cup. Although, he was in decent form. Robinho was in and out of the Brazil squad in the years leading up to the World Cup and he wasn't in the best form for Santos. Ronaldinho's exclusion is entirely on Felipao. Yes, he wasn't the same player as he was 10 years prior, but he was fresh off winning the Copa Libertadores with Atletico Mineiro in 2013 and was in good form. I don't think Felipao should've called up all three of these players, but he should've called up at least one of them (particularly Ronaldinho), especially since this squad severely lacked World Cup experience.
Every time I watch anything to do with this match, David Luiz pisses me off with how lazy he is. "Oh the Germans are attacking my goal, I'll jog in that general direction". How many of the goals happened and he wasn't even in the frame of the camera let alone the box. He was pure shite.
I can’t believe it’s been a decade since the entire sports world saw the decimation and evisceration of the greatest team in football history that is Brazil. 7 goals by the German national team is something I would never have imagined.
"Why Brazil Lost 7-1 to Germany at the 2014 World Cup?"

They had to save themselves for the final

Bro's not lying, germany ♥
I’m confident that even if Neymar and Thiago played against Germany, they’d still lose but maybe by 1 or 2 goals.
I agree
They'd still lose probably 7-2 and you could see Neymar & Thiago crying on the field
You can’t lose by 6 goals and blame it on one or 2 guys
Yeah, like it doesn’t make sense, even Neymar or Thiago Silva couldn’t have stopped the Germans then, they were just built different

@rafaelrohban8447 what a stupidd question. Losing best players sure hurt the team but they were never good enough to win it all.
Let’s not forget Dante was coming off a treble winning season with Bayern Munich where he was there starting center back. Facing 5 of his teammates in this match ( Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Müller ) and one former teammate in Kroos
At the time, Kroos was still a teammate. He transferred to Real Madrid after the World Cup ended.
I also think how the attack in 2014 was so focused on Neymar, his injury really affected them. The whole team just looked lost against the Defence was absolutely shocking and the attack was blunt.
Very true. The attack was so subpar without Neymar
It wouldn't have made a major difference. That's the thing because if you only rely on 1 superstar, you will still not be able to win championships. Look at PSG - this team is like a cheat code but who won the CL - not them!
I think the score would be much different if neymar didnt get injured but sadly he did:(
In my opinion that Brazil got really lucky with brackets.
The fact they still believe that neymar could have stopped germany still amaze me😂😂
Neymar is hands down the most overrated footballer and biggest fraud in football history. So much wasted talent by low IQ character and antics.
Same neymar that couldn’t stop Belgium and Croatia(no where near that german team) with far superior brazil.
They woudn't have been humiliated the way they were. Neymar was a class.

I couldn't watch the game due to work, but I listened to it on the radio, and I could not believe what I was hearing. It was crazy
My thoughts, as a brazilian:
This team was subpar considering what we can usually output in terms of performance.
I still remember after that quarter final was over, and the tv hosts talking about how Germany was the next opponent, and I couldn't help but feel like: 'uh oh'
We just needed blood sweat and tears to beat colombia of all teams (nothing against them ofc) and then were about to face a team that was not only stronger than colombia, but also without our best defender and attacker.
For the brazilian NT, anything but first place is a failure and it has deep psychological effects even on those who are some of the greatest talent of all time
I appreciated the background music lol
Great analysis. I also saw many problems coming but somehow seeing how they always found a way I felt it would be the same like 2002.
Exactly, properly summed up what I was also assuming

Exactly, I remember that up to that point Brazil was playing horrendously and didn’t deserve to get to semis

Same with France in 2018 even though so many people for some reason claim that Mbappe carried.

even in the 2020 Euro in between they got eliminated by the biggest international tournament chokers in the round of 16 (though to their credit unlike in 2024 England actually had a strong squad with the help of Rashford and Maguire and arguably should've won it over Italy)
Very true, the expectations were far too high especially considering that this squad was simply not that good.
@@thefootballbloc Your analysis gave an excellent insight. Very well analysed.

Brazil shouldn't have been in the semis. The level of that team was nowhere near the likes of France, Germany, the Netherlands and Argentina.
And Colombia almost left Neymar paralyzed... Talking about dirty.😊
I agree with the argument thar Brazil needed Neymar but Brazil's defense was largely to blame as well. Maybe even more.
That mans holding the wc on the bring of tears is painful to watch
Please make one of these videos regarding Mexico losing to Chile 7-0 in Copa America 2016
That's a great idea! That was one of the most puzzling matches in Copa America history, Mexico went into the match in flying form meanwhile Chile were playing subpar despite being reigning champions. And yet, Chile win 7-0.
@@thefootballbloc Yes exactly, and I don’t that anyone predicted that loss…
Brazil do not have best players anymore like they used to. i remember their best players like Ronaldo, Denison, Cafu, Roberto Calos, Bebeto, Ronaldino, Kaka etc...But their players, except Neymar and Thiago, are empty containers that have no value!!
Idk much about football, but when I was watching the plays before the goals, I noticed the Brazilians seem to just stand around like they didn't want to play/win or something
True, there was a lot of confusion and terrible planning from the Brazilian defense.
P.S.One of the hallmarks of class football squads is mental strength. The last Brazilian squad with mental strength was the squad of 2002 .
The Brasilian Taktik to defend extremely high was the greatest fault. German players said in interviews after the game that they knew after 5 minutes that they would win this game.
That Brazilian team was the worst and their coach was the most inept in the history of Brazilian football
As harsh as it may sound, this was definitely Brazil’s worst ever World Cup team.
That "inept" coach won the World Cup in 2002 and the only manager to go 8-0 in a world cup campaign.
The team was stacked with great talent. The coach didn't matter at all!
So it was a huge shock for me
No Philip lahm, no kruse and many other great players

From a defensive point of view, of course Neymar is not as crucial as Silva. But he definitely was from a psychological and morale standpoint

I agree 100%
I agree about Kaka and Ronaldinho but Lucio was far too old by 2014 meanwhile Alisson and Ederson were still youth players at that point.
@@TommyRivera74
This is true, but while Ederson was in Europe at the time, he wasn't at any level of real prominence. He was at Rio Ave who finished 11th in the 2013/14 season for example. It wasn't really until late 2015 when he broke out and was signed by Benfica (where ironically, he was competing with Julio Cesar for the number 1 spot).
Dani alves too didn't play
Silva nad neymars replacements didn't do much
Kaka's presence in the field or even in the bench itself would have been a moral boost for inexperienced players in that squad.

Very true. Terrible planning from the Brazilian FA
@@vortona
True.
He had some good insights like taking Juninho out of the team and replacing him with Kleberson, but Brazil caught a very easy path, on that Cup, aside from England. Insane reffereeing took out Spain and Italy, besides also helping us against Belgium. But you know what they say, I guess luck is also a quality.
@@vortona True, it was not Brazil's fault that strange refereeing decisions knocked out Italy and Spain or that France and Argentina flopped in the group stage. You simply have to play who's in front of you and Brazil found a way to win. I will say though in the final, Brazil played really well against Germany.
This was bad defense. It was meant to end like this.
What's the song he played at 3:04 it's so catchy please do anyone know it?
Camisa 10 - Luiz Americo
Everybody talks about N10
Thiago's missing showed itself more.
They still got destroyed by the Netherlands in the 3rd place match with Thiago Silva playing in that game!
@@ricomajestic because he had injury that affects everyone's game
Couldn’t you lower the music bit?

Camisa 10 - Luiz Americo
Neuer had in this world cup the best performance a keeper had in a world cup tournament, he killed algeria, france and brazil
They never would have reached the semi final,if neuer was the goalie of their opponents. Just look at their goals.
Just look at the penalties Argentina scored after extra time in wc 2022, they would have never won if Buffon was their opponents' goalkeeper!
I am an Arab, I was in the stadium at that time when I was 12 years old, with my father, we encourage Brazil! I didn't cry, I wish I did that to appear in all the game clips forever
Who cares where you are from?
I think this is one of the greatest revenge in World Cup because before in 2002 Brazil beat Germany 2-0 in the Final.
True
But Germany didn't won 5, it would be a revenge if this was the 5th wc
I don't think it was revenge, revenge would have been with the same team in the coming up world cup. this was a standalone humiliation.
Get a life.

Saudosa Maloca - Demonios Da Garoa
Luiz Felipe Scolari left out several big names from the squad for the 2014 World Cup, including:
Kaka, Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Moura, Lucas Leiva.
Kaka and Ronaldinho being left out in retrospect is kinda wild, also coach Dunga leaving Ronaldinho out of the 2010 Squad was also pretty bad.
I agree 100%

An diesem Abend hatte Brasilien geniale Spieler, Deutschland eine Mannschaft
The German players were BRILLIANT as well : )
The worst player on that night was David Luiz and he was spared criticism only because he shed some crocodile tears in front of the media.
Agreed,..He would never play another WC for Brazil~
If David Luiz played at defensive midfield and Miranda at CB from the beginning of the tournament, the history would have changed. That 7-1 will never happen and David Luiz carrier would have saved.
The absence of Neymar and Thiago explains a lot. The brazilian defense was never essential when you got Neymar and Thiago. That's why at 0:47 one player is literally chilling out in the goal
I think you forgot that in same tournament they beat messi in finals, and destroyed ronaldo in group stage
Very true. I agree
The loud music and your mumbling makes it really hard for me to understand some things you‘re saying as a non-english-native. Otherwise great video
Does anyone know what's the betting line before the match?
A lot of people say Neymar or Thiago could have stopped Germany, but a lot of people also forget the match between Germany vs. Brazil in 2011, where Brazil lost 3 - 2, and both teams were the same as in 2014.
N.B.Brazil cannot win a World Cup at home, they lost the World Cup 2_1 against Uruguay in 1950 in the Maracana, despite a great squad. There is simply too much pressure on the Brazilian squad , it would have been better if the World Cup had been played in another country. The choices that Scolari made compounded the situation. The Brazilians were playing
on emotion during the WC ,they looked absolutely terrified. They were psychologically defeated before the game started, that made Germany's task that much easier.
Nice video

Neymar was always an 'X' factor for Brazil. He always provides that stability and mental edge over his opponents. All hell broke lose when Brazil conceded their 2nd goal in no time and before they recovered, they conceded another 4 goals within a short span of 6 minutes. Pressure and huge expectations of playing at their home played on them. Absence of their prime defender Thiago was also running on the back of their mind.

Well, Felipao really wanted to maintain the team that won the 2013 Confederations Cup all three players weren't part of that squad.
