Also tippi and toriel are both characters whose names are spins on words meaning help. They both used to be in a relationship with the villain who is talked about through the entire game as some impossible enemy but they turn out to be pretty kind hearted.
I'm surprised by the fact that I've played both of these games and I never noticed the similarities from these 2 soundtracks until I watched the video.
Super paper mario is very underrated indeed, people say its bad because it has nothing to do with other paper mario games but thats not a reason for the game to be bad, in fact, its one of the best games on the wii in my opinion. also very great video
Why is this not talked about more? I noticed this first when I saw Dimentio somewhere and thought of Jevil. Then, I went down the deep, dark rabbit hole...
Super Paper Mario in general is a very inspiring game. First of all, taking away the awesome music, story, lore and even computerish visual aesthetic, the gameplay itself if pretty unique and really good. It isn't fair how it gets some backslash sometimes for minor reasons. I hope it eventually gets a remake that doubles down in the computer-like aesthetic of the world outside the Mushroom Kingdom in the intro cutscene.
I just replayed the game too, finally finishing it and I LOVED the end of super paper Mario. It was so heart wrenching, and almost brought me to tears. And I’ve definitley noticed how Undertale AND Deltarune may have been inspired by super paper Mario. I’d like to point out that the actual for Deltarune is so much like the prophecy for SPM. Being that there’s a group of light warriors written in an ancient prophecy against evil, to later defeat the evil. In Deltarune the whole light prophecy tells about fabled warriors, though it might be only three compared to the four fabled warriors of SPM, who will defeat an ancient evil. And I think Dimentio is more correlated to Jevil than Flowey, being the Jevil is almost directly inspired by Dimentio. Because Jevil has the SAME color pallets and is a Jester as well. The ending in Bleck’s castle, with the completely black background with white lineart is exactly how the battles in Undertale work. We well as the SNES reminiscent music in the castle. As well as the pure hearts and human hearts literally being the same, being a set of rainbow colored hearts lol. Also the fact that both Undertale and SPM are stories detailing the power of love / determination. Overall, I think both games are fantastic. SPM Deserves way more love than it gets
yeah a lot of UT was inspired by Super Paper Mario, especially with the last world being a black & white dimension. But Once Upon A Time was very clearly based on the Mother 1 intro instead.
I love how Toby took inspiration from SPM and a little from Super Mario RPG and TTYD. -Notice how "Uwa!! So Temperate" sounds like the Petalburg theme from TTYD? -Toriel and Tippis names are based on the words "tutorial" and "tip" (prolly already mentioned, but I still wanted to bring it up). -Sans and Papyrus being very similar to Mario and Luigi from age and height. -The wishes from these Flowers (I think, i don't remember exacly) are very inspired from the stars (i think) on Star Hill from Super Mario RPG and how you can hear the wishes from people. -How Mettaton is actually a ghost possessing a robot body is very similar to Geno and how he's a star spirit and possessed a doll. -Papyrus' theme sounds very similar to "Fight Against an Armed Boss" from Super Mario RPG. *This section contains spoilers for very important UNDERTALE and SUPER PAPER MARIO lore!!* I also love how Toby made Flowey/Asriel just like Dimentio. They are both the child of the main antagonist (If you don't know, look up SPM lore!) and try to take over. Dimentios real identity is Merloo, but changed his identity to Dimentio after the whole stuff with his sister, parents and grandpa happened. Very similar to Asriel changing his Identity to Flowey after the human realm incident happened. I'm gonna edit my comment if i have any more to say about inspirations.
@@snailofkale SPM lore is like a puzzle. Maybe it's not fully explained in the game so the player can make their own interpretation. Yeah you're right, it's not really explained in the game but you can piece together the informations given in the game. Sorry if i'm bad at explaining it haha. (edit): Remember that shrine of the ancients? There was a green one called Merloo if i'm not mistaken and he has very similar powers to Dimentio.
Dont forget about the ending of both games (well, the true pascifist run anyway) where it is characters facing away from the screen with silhouette effects.
Never thought about the similarities between these games till now, especially when you pointed out the pure hearts and souls. Good stuff man, maybe I’ll replay SPM for the 10th time lmao
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! Have you seen my posts about spm and undertale having similarities before doing this video? Because you made it a few days ago
I mean it's a possibility because he's showing that he likes nintendo eg earthbound and sans mii costume and helped with Pokemon sword and shield music.

Yeah, exactly, nice catch!

3:27 No hate, but the river person is actually based on the guy from Greek mythology. Whatever his name is who takes you pass that river.
The castle in deltarune chapter 1 and jevil are so similar
I love both games super paper Mario has great music and undertale also has a great music also they both have a song called memory.
Man ur right about this and super paper mario is actually rlly underrated lots of people say its bad and all that stuff
Toriel use to live with Sammer guy! FIGHT ME!

dimentio being merloo is completely unconfirmed (though not refutable) and... what? i don't know of any implication that he's bleck's child??

Thx for the support. No, i had not seen your posts prior.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed many similarities!
Did Toby Fox Even play Super Paper Mario?

Very cool video !! 💯👍
