      and yet, derek never got a REAL shake to play every day when he was with us (marlins). Let the lefty hit consistently, and he can be a very serviceable player for most teams. Also, his defense is very average, so its not like youre sacrificing much with him in.

    Think about this. The Marlins have only made the playoffs twice in their 26 seasons as a franchise, and yet, they have as many rings as the Phillies, Mets, Blue Jays, Indians, Twins, and Royals and have more rings than the Nationals/Expos, Brewers, Padres, Astros, Angels, Rangers, and Mariners.
    How is that even possible?

      Um yes it was.....as Jeter said they wanted a new culture and that usually means players they draft and control.....and they are building it from the ground up. When they bought the team it had $400 million in debt. They have already reduced that to less than $100 million in less than 2 years. By 2021 the Marlins will have a few of their draft picks ready will sign a few free agents to fill in and go from there and do just what the Cubs and Astros have done

  • @NothingToPointOut24
    @NothingToPointOut24 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Even if Fernandez lived, he would've been traded too. Rumors were already circulating around him in 2015-16.
    To think the Marlins should have Stanton, Ozuna and Yelich in their outfield right now is staggering. Doubtful it would've led to more fans attending games, but still that is a ton of talent that could be competing right now in the NL. IDK why the MLB allows a team to be run like that. Even when Stanton signed his contract with them, everyone knew he would never see the end of it there. And the deals they had Yelich and Ozuna signed to were steals.
    The fact that this franchise has two fairly recent championships is just proof of how unfair the sports gods are.

    • @fabiantaveras8458
      @fabiantaveras8458 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How are those WS wins helping them out today? They're meaningless they're irrelevant. The Marlins today are the league's biggest meme. They could have a had a dynasty in the early part of the franchise but for some strange reason the Marlins have a thing for GM's that love to needlessly tear down the team and rebuild for the sake of rebuilding.

    • @jacked6
      @jacked6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Look at those Braves teams of the 90s and early 2000s yet they one just one world series and so many others that one less than 2 or non at all. Off the top of my head the Red Sox, Giants, and Cardinals, and Yankees are the only others to have won more the Marlins have in the last 3 decades. Crazy to think about.

      @americangiant1003 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. Mr. Jeter your ownership group has been in control for I believe 3 years now (as of May 2019.) I hope for your legacy you have signed and started to develop by now, at least a couple of excellent prospects especially from either Japan/Asia and or Latin America. If this team is *not a playoff contender* by the 2021 season at the latest* IMO his legacy as an Executive/Part Owner will go down the toilet.
      And thus following in the footsteps of other recent Hall of Famer such as Micheal Jordan and Magic Johnson(in the NBA not counting being a Co Owner with the Dodgers) who have also not done well as Executives/Part Owners as well.

    Miami Marlins failed to get 10,000 fans at the Marlins Park in Miami Florida in 2019. Move the Miami Marlins to Montreal to become Expos again. It rank 30th and last for attendance. This is bad as Montreal Expos before moving to Washington D.C. in 2005 and became Washington Nationals.

      @@lovejetfuel4071 the reason the Marlins fan support has been the failure of the ownership. The fans are there....look at the World Baseball Classic, 25,000+ for each game, including a sold out semi-final last time, an All-Star Game that was full....it's been very poor owndership up til now. Jeter & Sherman have many things on track to finally put a winning product on the field. Comparing the Miami & St Pete situations certainly comes from ignorance on your part. Tropicana Field is almost a 40 miles drive from most of the bay area population that would go to games. St Pete is called "God's Waiting Room" for a reason. It's a retirement haven. The Marlins have just had such bad ownership it's been worse than pathetic, until now....Jeter & Sherman are doing the right thing, stovking up their farm and next year will have on paper a $20 million payroll....on a franchise that will bring in well over $130 million before selling a ticket on their portion of national tv & radio contract, fees from their portion of other events held at Marlins Park before & after baseball season, and their share from the Miami-FIU football game being held there in November etc......by 2021 they will be ready to win and spend money on free agents, but not on stupid contracts like Loria did (Wei Yin Chen $80+ million and he stinks)

    In the off-season of 2017, the Marlins just had to upgrade their pitching and defense a little. They had (former) NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, (2018 NL MVP) Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, JT Realmuto, Dee Gordon, and Justin Bour. A stacked outfield, a top 5 catcher, and an ok first baseman. All they had to do was just get upgrade that's it, but no they had to trade basically everyone on the team. And y'all know where they went in the off-season.

      Ok but how were they supposed to upgrade their pitching? They didn’t have the salary to make a big signing. They had a terrible if not the worst farm system in baseball so there really was no trading prospects for pitching. And if you trade some of your good players for pitching then you’re cutting into your core which is no bueño. People act like it was just so “easy” all they had to do was this it that. But that’s not the case at all

    I’ll give you my perspective as a Marlins fan. You hit the nail on the head with all the previous owners, especially Loria. The greed and deceit of the old owners had killed fan interest here. That fire sale in ‘98 killed it the worst, and the team is still dealing with that to this day. As far as Jeter coming in and trading our stars, i can’t blame him at all. Like you said, we haven’t had a winning season since 2009, no playoff birth since 2003. Our future of the franchise, JD16, died tragically. It was like a dagger to all of our hearts. And Jeter and co. takes over a team with no heart, $400 million in debt, the worst farm system in MLB and a horrible contract in Stanton. People say he should have just signed more pitchers and we’d be contenders. Yes, in theory. But with what money? Like i said, $400 million, and probably more than that, in debt. No farm system to trade for these pitchers, and it’s not like revenue from attendance would help. They were literally in a lose-lose situation, it was either rebuild or...nothing. That was the only choice. The Stanton trade, his NTC really screwed us, and the yankees were the only ones stanton agreed to , and would even take his contract, the main goal was just to dump his horrible contract anyway, plus he’s still injured and last year he struggled (compared to 2017 of course). The Yelich trade, 3 out of the 4 guys we got back havent made the big club yet, so it’s still early to call it a “failure”. It just really bad for us cause Yelich is lighting the world on fire, and he was nowhere this kind of player with us, just look at his stats before the trade. They are 100% going the Astros/Cubs/Nats route, building through the draft. I get why fans are pissed, but the way i see it is this: it obviously wasn’t working before, for whatever reason. We had all those great players, yet they couldnt finish even close to .500. So if something isn’t working, there comes a time where you gotta try something else. The farm went from 30th to 13th this past year, went from dead last to middle of the pack, and it’ll only get better after this year’s and next year’s draft. We are definitely a couple years from playoff contention, but I’ve seen losing Marlins baseball my whole life, so what’s a couple more years?

    I am a diehard marlins fan. Their biggest mistake was building the stadium in Miami in a ghetto instead of Broward County (Fort Lauderdale). They built it in a congested part of Miami. It is terrible getting in and out of the stadium. The traffic backs up even to the highway off ramp. I was there for the home run derby a couple years back and it was a nightmare. They have their wealthier fans in the Western part of Broward County. They should have built the stadium next to or near the BB&T Center, where the Florida Panthers play. It is surrounded by wealthy suburbs like Davie (parts of it are extremely wealthy, with people like Rick Ross owning homes there), Weston, Parkland, and others. It would also have made the stadium much closer to the west coast of Florida.

I tell you Miami sports are a curse. The heat: a young rookie team that looks like it has talent and it really doesn’t. That’s the principle for starting every Miami team. “We’re going to trade everything we have and make ourselves into a has-been rookie team that won championships.”, it’s upsetting me still really.

    Looking at this video, the narrator is pretty much spot on when it comes to us fans here in Miami about being fans of our team winning or losing, but sadly the Marlins isn't the case, especially when it comes to terrible ownership throughout their history about blaming the fans when it comes to not attending ballgames, that's the dumbest excuse I ever heard. First of all, the Marlins played at a football stadium in mid-80 degree heat, but the brightside is that the Marlins build a new ballpark (which can bring fans to attend games) which sadly had to demolish a historic football stadium in the Orange Bowl and to make matters worse using tax players money to build Marlins Park, another reason why fans distrust the Marlins franchise because of the ownerships decisions.
