  • In this Physics video in Hindi for Class 12 we explained the structure and function of an AC Generator. We also derived the equation for the induced emf using faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. This topic is from Chapter 6 : 'Electromagnetic Induction' for Class 12 from NCERT.
AC Generator : It is an electrical device which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. It generates alternating current. When a coil is rotated in a magnetic field, magnetic flux associated with the coil changes, due to which an induced emf is created. That induced emf generates electric current.
Principle - It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
Construction - The AC generator consists of the following parts.
    1. Field Magnet - It is a pair of strong concave permanent magnetic poles. In the figure they are represented by N and S.
    2. Armature - It is a rectangular coil ABCD consists of a large number of turns of copper wire wound over a soft iron core.
    3. Slip rings - The leads from the arms of the armature are connected to two rings separately. These are called slip rings.
    4. Brushes - These are the flexible metallic pieces (B_1 and B_2 in the figure) which allow the current to pass from the slip rings to the external load R.
Working - When the armature is rotated in the magnetic field, the flux linked to the coil changes and hence, current is induced in the coil.

@@edupoint.physics I have a doubt that why magnetic field is circular and it is usually 1 Dimensional unlike Electric field which spread all over in 3 dimensions.but Magnetic field is usually defined under 1 dimensional.why this happen?why magnetic field is usually one dimensional??

Sir, in dynamo or ac generator emf is produced so it is better to use fleming's right hand thumb rule not the left one.
Because right hand thumb rule was specifically made to know the direction of induced emf just like lenz' law!
    Rest of explanation was great!

Yeah that's handy !..but it's the derivative of the left hand rule only ..so he only tried to give us that insight !
