    30:45 Gareth’s comments on Rodgers ‘really struggling in England’ and being ‘more suited to Scottish football’ are one dimensional and likely based on one truly bad season in the EPL with Leicester. While it ended badly, when viewed on the whole, Rodgers period at Leicester was one of the most successful in their history with two top 5 finishes and an FA Cup victory.
    It’s not a stretch to say that Rodgers is an accomplished manager in England with 312 games over 10 seasons at EPL level:
    139 wins
    71 draws
    102 losses
    Indeed, only a handful of managers have accrued more points in the Premier League over the last 15 years.

      And those two top 5 finishes were top four until the last day of the season. So close to champions league football two years running. Winning cups. But for me selling Harry McGuire for £80m is his greatest achievement there. Eye Watering!

    It sounds like Kyogo asked for a move around October last year based on Brendan’s statement and for all we know possibly earlier than that. That gave us scope to do the Jota deal.

      Exactly. He actually said Rodgers ‘struggled in England’. Rodgers who managed 312 games in the English Premier League and only lost 33% of them. Two top 5 finishes and an FA Cup/Charity Shield double at Leicester. One bad season apparently writes off a decade of fairly solid work as a Premier League coach.

    Villa London guy way aff the mark about Brendan. He might not ‘mind’ him as a manager and think he’s suited to the Scottish league but to say he was a failure in England? Swansea promotion to EPL, Liverpool second, Leicester top five finishes… all above expectations and finances. We are 3 main men down for this tie and that will be the deciding factor. Only thing he said of any insight was the crowd ffs. Our ‘stattos’ outclass most others in their sober stating of the facts. The most important variable is luck and like Atlanta game we are going to need a lot of that in this game to take anything out of it. Great show guys

  • @liamyoung2174
    @liamyoung2174 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The main reason for delinking the kyogo and jota deals is the impact it has on both clubs turnover I think. On paper Celtic have just made 10 million rather than 1 million plus Jota. Financial regulation means clubs tend to want money rather than players. It allows them to spend more the higher their football income is.

    • @LauraABradburn
      @LauraABradburn วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      This is a fair point and, from an administrative point of view, probably makes sense.
      Everyone, probably for that exact reason, will continue to say the deals aren’t linked and the audit trail will remain unblemished. I still can’t help but think that they are, though,

    • @Aurelius8888
      @Aurelius8888 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      He’s got very average pace, whereas Kuhn and Maeda are two of the fastest players in Europe. Jota has more technical ability in his pinkie toe than both though.

  • @jonathangrieve6695
    @jonathangrieve6695 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    James, maybe I’m misremembering but I was sure yourself and Alan used to be quite complimentary about Jota’s pressing and defensive willingness. Often I think your pessimism is justified but this feels misplaced. For me, Jota is a great signing with the only drawback being his lack of match fitness

    • @jucojames
      @jucojames วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      My failing memory struggles with my own bloviating let alone recalling Alan's sage comments!
      My recollection on my own views/comments was oriented towards his defensive actions getting more efficient in season 2 vs 1st, but volumes remaining quite low. For some context, his defensive action volume in 2nd season were more than 50% below levels of wingers under BR. Jota's defensive effectiveness also declined to be pretty poor in EL and CL at Celtic, though admittedly limited sample sizes.
      So my concerns are not really domestic (other than injury risk) - but how will he cope with being expected to be 50%+ more active at EU level when he was not good in that facet at a materially lower level demanded?

    Still not quite got over Kyogo. I'll probably get more into the Jota hysteria when I see what he has got to offer on the park. .My first observation is that he has clearly lost some weight since he was last here though I'm not really that interested how stunningly handsome he looks to some fans. We now desperately need a striker and he can be as ugly as hell if he can bang 'em in like Kyogo.

      Yes indeed, ''the Jota hysteria'' that like you, I can't participate in at this precise moment in time, other than to say he's obviously quicker than Palma, but then again, Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox MBE, is quicker than Palma & oor Bobby is now in his 82nd year for goodness sake & again like you, my very low ebb & poor mood when it comes to things Celtic, is all to do with the departure of oor beloved Wee Japanese Bhoy Kyogo, which we knew was always going to happen & for sure, we will NOT see his like again at Celtic Park anytime soon, if ever at all & talking of ''ugly as hell'' goal scorers, they didn't come much uglier than Dixie Deans & Leigh Griffiths & their respective goal scoring exploits will, sadly, NEVER be witnessed again either.

      There are no real red flags for fitness like him having gained a ton of weight, but he does look out of condition, and said in his interview that he's not match fit. So he's not going to hit 'superstar from Portugal' heights in his first match, and we shouldn't expect it.

      @frankbrennan1619 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      And of course James didn't ''criticise the move for Jota'' in the slightest in this particular video, but instead only questioned the ''ambition'' of it & most rightly so, in the context of & ''context is everything'' as dear old absent on this occasion Alan, most rightly often likes to remind us & so was this the very best we could do on this occasion, whilst for Jota on a personal level, a move back to Celtic makes ''perfect sense'' in the context of that nobody else wanted him & the small matter too is he even a Rodgers '' type of player'' & so I would also ask in that context, is he a Rodgers' signing or a Paul Tisdale, Celtic's Head Of Football Operations, signing & if indeed the latter's, nothing too innovative or cutting edge to speak of....

      As for negativity, it is a result of my good faith attempt to analyze the situation heading into the game. Hopefully will end up looking like a horses arse but trying to provide objective analysis is the entire point of our platform - even when it results in unpopular opinions or negativity.

      @ appreciate your response, and believe me, I’m a glass half empty Celtic fan but our record away in Europe (apart from the game that shall not be mentioned) has been fairly solid and should give us cause for some optimism? For the record, I actually think we’ll lose tomorrow. Combination of the absence of Kyogo and Maeda and the fact Villa seem in bigger need of a win than us suggests they will probably prevail but I live in hope - not fear.

    • @jucojames
      @jucojames วันที่ผ่านมา

      @markturkston957 A lot of my concern has to do with relative strengths and weaknesses of this specific matchup. We enjoyed a tremendous result at Atalanta but that was materially aided by poor finishing by them on the day...and they are more system-driven vs raw athleticism, IMO. Villa present a systemic challenge AND with athletes closer to what Dortmund posed. That is the confluence, along with Villa likely going all out to win the game, that has me negative. I do not think this specific confluence existed in any of the other away games.
