Hi David. I've watched this video so many times now even my kids say "Are you watching David again Daddy?" LOL. I'm running the Limerick marathon this Sunday so I love the insight this video gives. Thank you and I hope all is well.
Well done Dave, another excellent video. You hardly broke a sweat running the marathon in 3.04 hrs. :-) Looking forward the next one on Cape Wrath and the videos of the event itself.
Thanks Ray, yeah just kept it steady throughout. “No heroics” as I like to say. I think we’re all looking forward to The Cape Wrath Ultra. Whatever happens it’s going to be special.
Thanks Jim, it’s hard to know what an all out effort might have produced on the day but a more interesting question would be how much longer could I have sustained the pace. Either way I was very happy with how everything turned out on the day.
Have done this race 5 times! 6 mile 3 times, remember watching this last year before i did the half! Managed 1.30.15. Going for a sub 3:30 marathon this year! Cant wait, its a great event :)
Thanks Alan, yep it was a very enjoyable day indeed and very well supported. Although it must be said, the marathon was pretty low-key compared to the 6mile race. Now that was a party.
It’s been a few years since I visited Limerick. A marathon seems like a run in the park for you. It didn’t push you like the ultra distances over serious terrain. Well done 👍🍷
That’s true on this occasion but the difference here is that I wasn’t racing. Any distance can push you to the limit when you are trying to squeeze the absolute max out of your body. I had 2 goals: Get a Boston qualifying time Don’t do anything to hinder my chances in Scotland. Chicago next year will be my next give-it-everything marathon. Let’s see what I look like at the end of that 😂😂
Hmm, that’s a good question and the short answer is I really don’t remember other than the fact that neither one is all that hilly. What I will say is that Dublin has much more of a BIG city marathon feel with big crowds right along the course.
Best of luck with it Michel, yeah, the first half is very quiet apart from the volunteers. After that the half marathon will have started so you will deffo notice more support as you cruise in to the finish line 💪🏃♂️
Great Video. It looks so easy for you running and recording . I have done 3 times the half , this year is my first full in Limerick and my 7th marathon :) wish me luck . One question , you didn't take any gel during the course? and congrats once again
Thank you, and the very best of luck to you in the marathon. I took six or maybe seven gels during the race. I’m pretty sure I made a comment on it when I took the last one, salted watermelon 😋 Good energy management is key to your success so definitely take on something regularly after mile 4 or 5.
Thanks Stephen, I knew I was in pretty good shape but having not run a marathon for a few years I wasn’t quite sure how it would play out exactly. With my A race looming, i.e. The Cape Wrath, I wanted to achieve a Boston qualifier but not put fatigue in to my legs that I would struggle to get back out before race day. Pretty confident now I will give it some rattling 😛

Ha ha, that’s too funny 😂 The very best of luck on Sunday. Keep the energy going in and you’ll do just fine 💪🏃🏻♂️🥳
Thanks for vlogging this course… tan this as my first ever marathon and loved just reliving every step of the way with you!
Thanks Aoife, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you had a great experience out there on the course for your first marathon.
Great video, smiling all the way. Going to run it this year.
Thanks Ray, all the best with the race this year. It brings a great buzz to the city 🏃🏻♂️💪

An unreal time! Holy smokes. Congrats, Dave.

Oops, just noticed I didn't reply to you from my channel. The sentiment is still the same :-)

Best of luck with it Anthony. Keep it nice and steady. I like to take a gel every 4 miles or so. You need to keep the energy topped up 💪🏃🏻♂️
Yes definitely going to invest in a few gels for it, haven't used them before. Thanks for the advice! :)
Wow great run , looks a very nice area a well run event, with super support

Class video.
Thanks David, I was happy with the way it all came together.
How does the course profile compare to somewhere like the Dublin Marathon
Hmm, that’s a good question and the short answer is I really don’t remember other than the fact that neither one is all that hilly. What I will say is that Dublin has much more of a BIG city marathon feel with big crowds right along the course.
I'll be there this year. I wish it was like Dublin Marathon where 90% of the course is full of people cheering for us.

Considering you were going for 3:15 that's a decent effort David!!

I took that picture at 7:26 😊
I don’t generally buy the photo package but in this case I thought photos like yours made it worth it. Thanks and keep up the good work 🙏
