I like this combat mechanic! If you want to modify it some, perhaps small weapons (dagger, 2x4, etc.) do -1 damage and large weapons (2h sword, heavy crossbow, etc.) do +1. Alternatively, give a character a number of "specialist" weapons that do a damage bonus. Maybe d4 fighting gives you 0 specialties, a d6 gives you 1, etc. You would still roll the die code for attacks but if a hit is landed, the damage is added if a specialist weapon is used. Just a couple of quick thoughts and I have never heard of this game until your review, so thanks for this review!

Thank you for the review, is weird to see these things on TH-cam for a little game I wrote for my group to play. The newer 'edition' of the game is just a cleaned up version really and a bit more intuitive as far as the Stats go.

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. You wrote a good game, so I thought I'd share it out!

@@CounterProductiveGames Thank you, I enjoyed watching it. Most of the new version was just an excuse for me to draw all of the interior illustrations and do the box set, so I could have one for my shelf.

@@scottgeg I love the art, and the minimalist style. I've read, I think on Amazon, someone said there was too much whitespace, unused space, I loved it. I don't like clutter and this is layed out great. I'll happily purchase the upgraded set and review it as well!

I'm a martial artist, and I can tell you, that in the end, skill trumps raw power. So this combat mechanic makes perfect sense. In fact, one of the reasons I absolutely DESPISE DnD is the combat.
    STRENGTH MAKE GOOD HIT!
    ARMOR MAKE HARD TO ATTACK!
    Absolute stupidity.
Armor makes you EASIER to hit, and Strength just means you hit HARDER, not better.

Great review. I played this on fantasy grounds unity and I liked it but the table runner told me that a second edition was being written already. Hopefully the author will fix the damage issue but it is a solid system and a cool aesthetic and you can buy all three of the books he's published for this game for $30 on Amazon, which I'm going to.

I wonder then if the 2ed is the box set I read about. Whatever it is, I'll pick it up to support him. Might have to get all the books while I can.

@@CounterProductiveGames The 2nd ed boxed set it out now, it's got some very nice changes to the game mechanics.

@@CounterProductiveGames I have a few of the box sets left (they are a signed and numbered limited edition), and the Amazon hardcovers are also updated to the revised edition. Both itch and DriveThru are updated also!

@@scottgeg help me out, where do I find the boxed sets? I bought the PDF, but a boxed set would be cool!

Very similar to the system I created though it is worse on the Encumbrance and classes for sure. This game heavily borrows from Heroquest. It seems like it has some very good ideas that trim out the unnecessary stuff from D&D-like games, which is appreciated. I also like the fact that is more original and avoids the d20 system.

Great review man! This author also has another book made after this one, samller and with the same mechanics but in there he uses the usual 6 stats. Maybe it is a hack to use with old d&d or OSR modules? Have you looked into that? It's called Reddragon RPG, saw it on amazon.

It looks like a great little streamlined D20 type of system. It looked like it was cheap, a few dollars if I remember, if that. I may pick it up just support him!

How do multiple attacks work? I assume a d20 + dX is rolled twice for two attacks. But perhaps it is d20 + 2dX instead and then either 0, 1, or 2 hits?

    • @CounterProductiveGames
      @CounterProductiveGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't remember that in the rules even. I would just roll as normal for each attack
